The Pac-West League: How The West Was One (Reboot)
As of right now, the Northeast Summer League is put on hiatus. Originally, the plan was to write individual game recaps after every sim. Even with running a small league in God-mode, it was still kind of overwhelming and time consuming to produce. That's probably going to change since 17 produces game recaps, which is one feature I am really thankful for. Fear not, updates for the NSL timeline will continue soon. But really, I've been in the mood to reboot and revamp a previous dynasty report, How The West Was One. The initial story was a fictionalized version of the Pacific Association expanding to Southern California. This time around, an eight team league has developed along major cities in the West Coast: Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver. These teams have formed the independent collective known as the Pac-West League. Also, along with the usual game box scores and recaps, the character Manny Windsor will continue to cover the league with the How The West Was One podcast (in transcript form, that is). As many of us do, I'll sim to the 7th and take it from there with a few games. But, essentially this report a presentation in God-mode. For the league setup, teams are grouped into two divisions, the Alpha Division and the Omega Division. The league will play a 140 game schedule, starting April 7th. Each team will play twelve exhibition games during spring training, before the start of the regular season. The league's regular season will take a brief intermission for an all-star game around the end of June. At the end of the season, the top four teams in the league will compete in the post season for a two-round playoff to determine the winner of the Pacific Cup. The Pac-West League's spring training begins in a few days. Hope you all dig it. Last edited by robwondah; 06-09-2016 at 10:44 AM. |

The Pac-West League Visual Guide
So here goes more of a visual rundown of the league. As of late, I've had more fun with smaller, fictional leagues. There is so many different ways to play the game. Running a single, small league is just my jam.
Also, as you can see there is an Alpha and Omega division. Really, the only purpose of the divisions is so I can run an all-star game mid-season. The top four teams at the end of the year will advance into a two round playoff in September. Shown above is the geographical make-up of the league. Even though I didn't grow up in the era, I've always been infatuated with the history of the Pacific Coast League. Specifically, the years of the 1920's into the 1950's. I constantly imagined what it would be like if instead of the Giants and Dodgers moving to the West, the PCL did become that Major League it was intending to be. That what-if was one of the first situational sims I played when I first purchased OOTP 15. Part of the reason why, this time around, I went the homage route for the cities that used to host a PCL team back in the day. The teams identities are charter members of the Golden Baseball League's 2005 season. I started paying closer attention to independent baseball just a few years ago and wished I followed these leagues earlier. But on a design tip and as I expand my interest in sports marketing and branding, I've come to realize that Dan Simon is one of my favorite artists of the genre. It is that "bold simplicity" he uses as a design philosophy. Simon designed the logos for all the original eight franchises of the GBL. Above anything, I just want to give a big shout out and mention that I appreciate his designs and aesthetics very much. Last edited by robwondah; 04-27-2016 at 09:46 PM. |

The Pac-West League Stadium Tour
The ballparks used this report are minor league stadiums from MLB The Show. Sure, I could have gone one hundred percent fictional. It’s always a cool addition to add you’re own twist. But, most of them worked perfect for the purpose I was intending to use them for. Such as Oak Street Park actually being on Oak Street in Oakland or Bayfront Park being situated by Santa Monica Pier. The screen grabs of this parks were taken from Baseball Simulator. Last edited by robwondah; 04-27-2016 at 09:47 PM. |

Looks great. I appreciate that you told us where you got the logos and parks from. While I always think about doing huge leagues, it's the little ones that last because they're easier to get into and stick with. Good luck!
