The 100 year Phillies dynasty

I'm already in 2088 for a dynasty I've been simming on OOTP16 for quite a while. I should've started this thread a while ago. I'll go back and post up the goings on for my team. I resumed the playoffs as they were before the silly 2nd wildcard. No coaches and the AI runs the minors. I like the GM role and just sim the games.

Generally, 70 war will get a player into the HOF, except for relievers. I did retire a few numbers just out of sentiment.

There's been some ups and downs...I've stayed pretty consistently competitive with a few runs of sustained WS glory.

Here we go...

Just a year that needed to be slugged through. 56 wins and 106 losses. I cut Ryan Howard...no sense in crying over spilled milk.

Notes, the Giles trade never happened. I trade to mimic the Hamels trade as closely as I could. OOTP does not think as highly of Aaron Nola as he's performing thus far irl. Franco flames out.

There were two bright spots for this season...JP Crawford is blowing the doors off the minors and forces his way into the lineup at 20 years old. The second bright spot is the retirement of number 11 for Jimmy Rollins.

Maikel Franco won the Gold Glove at 3B.

With the seventh overall pick in 2015 draft...the Philadelphia Phillies select...Dazmon Cameron OF. Unfortunately, Cameron wouldn't go on to have any impact at the MLB level. The Phils second round pick...Travis Blankenhorn 3B, went on to have several solid years for the Phils before his productivity fell off a cliff.

The WS winner is the LA Dodgers.

With some of the contracts cleaned out and a little more spring in our collective steps, the Phils went 85-77. This was more a product of a weak division than any big step forward for the Phils. The arrival of veteran Justin Morneau provided some needed leadership for a young team.

Aaron Nola had the best year of his career, posting a 4.9 war season. JP Crawford post a 4.6 war season. Yovanni Gallardo won the Silver Slugger at P.

With the first overall pick in the 2016 MLB draft, the Philadelphia Philles select high schooler Jeff Belge SP. Time would show this to be a proverbial grand slam of a pick.

The Oakland Athletics won the WS.

Now the real work began trying to put a core around Crawford and new arrival Hunter Renfroe, whom I traded with the Padres for. Renfroe would go on to hit .267 and 36 HR's and win the Rookie of the Year award...a feat he would never live up to. He would be off the team in a few years.

The Phils finished 80-82, with Crawford, Nola, and Renfroe being the only real impact players on the team. Crawford made his first All Star game.

With the 25th pick in the draft, the Phils select Dominick Foscalina SS from Forham. He would go on to be a trade piece along with Renfroe to get a few solid players from the Tigers.

At long last, the Chicago Cubs win the WS.

The Phils finish 89-73 and win the NL East, returning to the playoffs!! Unfortunately they get swept by the Dodgers in the 1st round. Crawford has officially arrived as a star. He posts a 9.6 war season and makes the All Star Game. He some how does not get the NL MVP. Travis Blankenhorn 3B explodes into town winning the Rookie of the Year and posting a 4.9 war. Odubel Herrera also makes an impact with 3.8 war.

On the pitching side, Zach Eflin comes from no where and puts up a 4.0 war season. Ken Giles also makes the ASG, leading the league in saves with 42. He also wins the Reliever of the Year.

In the draft...the Phils waste another 1st round pick by picking some scrub who got deleted because he never made the MLB.

The Dodgers win another WS.

The Phils fall on their face with a 75-87 record. Crawford and Blankenhorn continue to play well and post good numbers. Jeff Belge makes his MLB debut after annihilating the minors for several years.

Crawford and Giles make the ASG. Crawford wins the Silver Slugger for 2B and Giles wins Reliever of the Year. Crawford would actually never win a Gold Glove, mostly due to the presence of Andrelton Simmons at SS with the Braves. The pitching overall is underwhelming and dooms the Phils.

With the 23rd overall pick, the Phils selected Joe "Campy" Cox SP from high school. While he wouldn't make the Phils roster, he was part of a trade to the Braves for Freddie Freeman in 2020. The jewel of this draft would be the second round pick, Ed Kennedy SP from high school. He would go on to form a formidable 1-2 punch with Belge for a long time before falling off a cliff at 32.

The St Louis Cardinals win the WS.

Soooo close...the Phils return to the playoff by winning the NL East at 89-73 in which would be the 1st of a string of 13 year of winning the division. They go to the WS before losing to the Athletics. Before the season, I traded with the Indians for Francisco Lindor, who had a lackluster start in his career. Basically I was looking for a elite defensive SS.

Crawford, Herrera, and Blankenhorn all posts good seasons. Newcomers Daniel Montano in CF and Lindor both post good seasons.

The starting pitching is much improved with Eflin, Matt Imhof, Jesse Biddle, and Belge all posting good seasons. With the tenth overall pick, the Phils select Joe "Bull" Guyton CL from Mississipi State. Guyton would go on to have a very good career as a closer with 386 saves.

The Phils win the WS!!!

We beat the Boston Red Sox and returned to the top of the mountain with a 96-66 record. I signed Mike Trout to a big contract in the off season. It would pay off with him winning the Silver Slugger at CF and the WS MVP.

Crawford, Trout, Ismael Pena LF, Blankenhorn, and Freeman all have good season in the field.

Jeff Belge makes his first ASG, posted a 7.4 war season. Eflin and Brandon Finnegan both post good years. Jesse Biddle somehow wins 20 games but only has 2.6 war.

With the 34th overall pick in the draft, the Phils select Donnie Schofield CL from Gordon College. His claim to fame would be always seeming to latch on to WS winning teams. He'd go on to win 4 rings with 3 different teams while not doing a whole lot.

The Phillies return to the WS, but this time Boston returns the favor and beats the Phils. The Phils post a 94-68 record. The Phils emptied out the farm for Manny Machado. The Orioles were in desperate need of salary relief, so I obliged.

All Stars: Belge, Trout, Crawford.

Good seasons: Machado 3B, Trout CF, Crawford 2B, and Lindor SS. Belge SP, Eflin SP and Buck Farmer SP.

Awards: Crawford won the Silver Slugger at 2B. Belge and Lindor win the Gold Gloves at P and SS. Mike Trout post a 7.7 war season and wins the NL MVP.

Blankenhorn's fall from grace begins. With the 24th pick in the draft, the Phils select Alvin Jones RP from Witchita State. The better pick, however, would be the 2nd round choice of Rob "Seaweed" Phipps RP from Texas. He would go on to be a HOF pitcher (as an auto inductee). While he had 390 saves, he also pitched 60+ relief appearances in each of his 16 years.

Boston Red Sox win the WS.

The Phils finish 97-65 with a rather disappointing first round exit to the Miami Marlins. Ed Kennedy makes his debut.

All Stars: Trout, Belge, Machado

Good season: Trout LF, Max Kepler CF, Machado 3B. Crawford posts a low for him 3.8 war season. Belge, Eflin, Farmer, and clubhouse cancer Trent Shelton SP.

Awards: Trout Silver Slugger for LF. Belge wins...well everything. Gold Glove, MVP, Cy Young.

With the 28th pick, the Phils select Zander Browning RP from Texas. He would go on to have some solid years for the Phils as a RP.

Boston beats Miami to win the WS.

The Phils have another disappointing first round playoff exit at the hands of the Reds. The hype was at a fever pitch after going 103-59 in the regular season. Guyton makes his debut. Machado moves on as a free agent.

All Stars: Josh Bell RF (had a torrid first half and an equally terrible second half), Crawford, Belge, Shae Simmons RP, Trent "Cancer" Shelton SP.

Good Seasons: Crawford, Trout, Lindor, and Jackson Reetz C. Belge, Shelton, James Haynes SP, and Kennedy.

Awards: Crawford Silver Slugger at 2B.

With the 29th overall pick, the Phils select Jeremy Jacobs CF from Long Beach State. He would go on to have a few solid years in the OF.

The Dodgers win another WS.

The Phils go 96-66 in the regular season. Overall they didn't have as much star power on offense, just a very complete team. We end up losing the WS to the Cubs. Crawford has his worst season as a pro, prompting some thoughts of moving on from him. The Phils also trade with Minnesota for Byron Buxton RF for a bunch of spare parts. The Twins need salary relief and the Phils needed OF'ers so I took a chance on the oft injured Buxton. Trout spent most of the year injured. Belge being Belge.

All Stars: Belge, Phipps

Good Season: Ryan Mountcastle 3B, Dansby Swanson SS, Johan Camargo 1B. Belge, Kennedy, Haynes, and Jon Moscot SP.

Awards: Belge wins his 2nd CY.

With the 28th pick in the draft, the Phils select Ted O'Neil SP from Stanford. O'neil would have a few solid years with the Phils before being traded to the Twins in 2029 and winning the 2030 Cy Young. Second round pick Andy Merrill SP would also have a few solid years for the Phils.

Cubs win the WS.

The Phils finish 90-72 in the regular season, but face yet another first round exit at the hands of the Cubs. I made a mid season trade of Byron Buxton to the Mariners for Shane Benes SS. He would be one of the cornerstones of an upcoming dynasty.

All Stars: Belge, Phipps, Brock Anderson RF.

Good Season: Belge, Anderson, Crawford. Kennedy, Haynes, Trent "Cancer" Shelton

Awards: Belge wins his 3rd CY and the NL MVP. Camargo wins the Gold Glove at 1B.

With the 27th overall pick, the Phils select flameout Ben Harrison SP from Abilene Christian. In the 2nd round, I pick Scott McEvoy, who would be a reliable utility man for me for a while.

The Cubs wins another WS.

98-64 in the regular season leads the Phils to Tampa Bay getting sweet, sweet revenge on the Phils by beating them in the WS. Trout departs after this season. Crawford moves to 3B. I traded mid season with the Twins for All Star catcher Raul Salazar for Yaisel Puig, whom I signed before the season with decent results.

All Stars: Belge, Kennedy, Salazar

Good seasons: Shane Benes SS, Raul Salazar C, Dansby Swanson 2B, Kennedy, Belge

Awards: Belge CY and NL MVP (yawn). Guyton is Reliever of the Year.

The draft was an utter disaster with no one making the the MLB.

Rays win the WS.

The Phils finished 95-67 again getting bounced in the first round by the Cubs. Mitchell Hanson RF turned out to be the best free agent signing, posting a 4.4 war season. He was a past All Star who I caught a renaissance with. Mason Templet would also prove to be a good pickup at 2B.

All Stars: Salazar, Belge, Guyton

Good Seasons: Benes, Crawford, Hanson, Salazar, Mason Templet 2B, Belge, Kennedy

Awards: Belge CY (that's 5). Steve Roe Gold Glove in LF. Salazar the Silver Slugger at C.

With the 34th overall pick in the draft, the Phils select Shawn Knowles CF from high school. His claim to fame would be being the cog of a trade to the Rockies for Joel Armstrong SP. Armstrong would have several good years with the Phils.

The Texas Rangers would beat the Cubs to win the WS.

Get used to that symbol. The Phils are WFC with a 108-54 regular season record. They beat the Rays to win it all with Belge being named the WS MVP. O'Neil et al was traded to the Twins for Elton Hanson RF. Belge pitched a no hitter in the playoffs.

All Stars: Kennedy and Belge.

Good seasons: Hanson, Crawford, Benes, Salazar, Belge, Kennedy

Awards: Elton Hanson Gold Glove for RF.

In the draft, I picked Caden "Tippy" Byrd LF out of Rice 24th overall. He would go on to have a couple good/solid seasons for the Phils.

Repeat! The Phils go 98-64 in the regular season and beat Tampa Bay for the 3rd time in the WS.

All Stars: Salazar, Benes, E. Hanson, Belge, Kennedy

Good seasons: Crawford, Benes, E. Hanson, Salazar. Belge and Kennedy

Awards: Belge CY, Benes Gold Glove at SS. Salazar Silver Slugger at C. Hanson the Gold Glove in RF.

With the 26th pick, the Phils select Gil "Grits" Echevarria 1B from Florida Atlantic. The Phils were lured into this bad pick by Gil's captain persona. He cracked a few other MLB rosters, but never amounted to anything.

Threepeat! The Phils go 103-59 in the regular season and face the Royals in the World Series. The Phils pulled out a game 7 victory to firmly establish their dynasty. Just to cement his legendary status in Philadelphia, JP Crawford hit a bottom of the 9th World Series winning walk off homerun. That was literally the last hit of his epic career. They took the division series and NLCS with 4-3 splits as well. Traded Eflin et al for Sergio Fernandez SP from the A's. Armstrong debuted this season. Andy Merrill pitched a no hitter.

All Stars: Kennedy, Belge, Browning, Salazar.

Good seasons: Crawford, Benes, Salazar, Belge, Hanson, and Carter Kieboom 1B.

Awards: Belge CY and NL MVP

With the 28th pick, the Phils selected Ron Sankey CL from Dallas Baptist. He would go on to do...well...nothing. The jewels of this draft would prove to be 2nd round pick Steve May C and 6th round pick Gabe Crum SP. Both would go on to have good careers with the Phils.

JP Crawford retires on top. The Phils retire number 16 for him. He amasses 83.7 war, 6 ASG, 3 Silver Sluggers, and 4 rings over the course of his career. He is inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2036. He was one of those players that wasn't the best at any one thing, but excelled at everything.

The Diamondbacks bring an end to the Phils run of postseason dominance by beating them in the NLCS 4 games to 1. The Phils went 93-69 in the regular season. A roster overhaul before the season shook up the group that threepeated. Salazar departed and gave way to Adrian "Looney" Medina at C who somehow signed a minor league contract with me while he was a former All Star.

All Stars: Benes, Kennedy, Hanson, Belge, Medina

Good seasons: Benes, Kennedy, Belge, Medina, Byrd, Graham, Tim Jackson SP.

Awards: GG's for Dave Graham 2B, Adrian Medina C, Chris Chase 3B, Caden Byrd LF Rookie of the Year.

With the 28th overall pick in the MLB draft, the Phils selected Sammy "Future" Smith CL. He would go on to have a good career elsewhere.

Back on top! The Phils WS drought lasted exactly one season with the Phils going 95-67 in the regular season and beating the White Sox in the WS. New comer Jon "Cotton" Monteith CF had a career season on a 1 year deal. Ed Kennedy's numbers dropped off a cliff after a good career. He retired after the season. Fernandez debuted this season.

All Stars: Monteith, Byrd, Belge, Medina, Armstrong

Good seasons: Byrd, Medina, Chase, Jon Monteith CF, Belge, Sergio Fernandez SP, Merrill

Awards: Belge CY and NL MVP, Monteith Silver Slugger CF.

After a long drought of 1st round mistakes, the Phils finally hit a homerun and draft future Hall of Famer Steve Bancroft CL 25th overall from St John's. Bancroft would go on to log 542 saves in a long career, mostly with the Phils.
