2015 Manager Career

I will be playing in manager mode and will start unemployed and likely will sign with a minor league team. Hopefully I'll be able to work my way up to an MLB team. I'm starting in 2015.

I've received offers from several minor league teams, none above AA. I decided to accept a job with the Tulsa Drillers, the AA affiliate of the Dodgers, who have the #2 ranked minor league system. We start out with Julio Urias and Corey Seager, the #5 and #8 prospects in the league.

Texas League Overview:

Top 20 hitters:

We have 3 players in the top 20. Not bad.

Top 20 pitchers:

The top 3 pitchers in the league are on our team. Eight out of the top 20 are on our team. We should have a great pitching staff.

Preseason predictions:

Opening Day Roster - April 9th:

Rotation:
Julio Urias - he's an 18-year-old lefty who's got 5 star potential and is in his first year in AA after pitching well last year in A ball.
Chris Anderson - 22 years old, righty, 4 star potential, first year in AA
Chris Reed - 24-year-old left-hander who has 3 star potential. He played both here and in AAA last year but did not do well in AAA.
Zach Lee - 23-year-old, righty, 4 star potential. He again didn't do great in AAA last season, so he's back for his 3rd season in AA.
Deck McGuire - 25-year-old, righty, half star potential. He's never been good and won't make it far. This is his first year in our organization.

Bullpen:
CL Daniel Coulombe - 25, 3 star potential, lefty. He played 5 games in the majors last year. They didn't go well.
SU Josh Ravin - 27, half star potential, righty. He's amassed a WAR of 0.1 in 9 years of pro ball. Not good.
SU Juan P. Gonzalez - 25, 1 star potential, righty. He's been in AA the past 2 years.
MR Ralston Cash - 23, half star potential, righty. He spent most of his time in A last year but played a few games here.
MR Blake Smith - 27, half star potential, righty. Split time between AA and A last season.
MR Jeremy Kehrt - 29, half star potential, righty. Organizational depth.
MR Michael Thomas - 26, half star potential, lefty. This is his 3rd straight year in AA.

Starting lineup:
CF Travis Witherspoon - 25, 2.5 star potential, righty. He's back for his 3rd year of AA after spending last year in A. He needs to start developing soon if he's going to make it to the majors.
2B Luis Mateo - 24, 1 star potential, righty. He's pretty much fully developed and is just organizational depth.
1B O'Koyea Dickson - 25, 3 star potential, righty. He had a 2.4 WAR in AA last year.
SS Corey Seager - 20, 5 star potential, lefty. Big time prospect.
DH Jorge Bonifacio - 21, 4 star potential, righty. Acquired yesterday from the Royals along with Kelvin Herrera for Alex Geurrero.
RF Jon Garcia - 23, 1.5 star potential, righty. The past few years haven't gone well for him.
LF Peter Lavin - 27, 1 star potential, lefty. He split time between AA and A last year.
3B Brandon Dixon - 23, 1 star, righty. Nothing really to say.
C Ali Solis - 27, 1 star, righty. He's already missed his opportunity to be in the big leagues.

Bench:
1B Tyler Ogle - 24, 1 star, righty. Played in A the past 2 years.
2B Jarek Cunningham - 25, 1 star, righty. 4th straight year in AA.
3B Paul Hoenecke - 24, 1 star, lefty. This is his first time in AA.
LF Yadir Drake - 24, 1 star, righty. His first year back over from Cuba.

Trying a new format here instead of the play-by-play. Let me know what you think.

Tulsa Drillers at San Antonio Missions, 7:05 PM, attendance 3081, clear skies (74 degrees), wind blowing left to right at 16 mph.

Drillers lineup and pitcher: CF Jorge Bonifacio, 2B Luis Mateo, 1B O'Koyea Dickson, SS Corey Seager, LF Peter Lavin, RF Jon Garcia, 3B Brandon Dixon, C Ali Solis, DH Yadir Drake, P Chris Anderson

Missions lineup and pitcher: C Griff Erickson, LF Alberth Martinez, DH Yeison Asencio, RF Hunter Renfroe, 1B Luis Domoromo, SS Casey McElroy, CF Kyle Gaedele, 2B Fernando Perez, 3B Gabriel Quintana, P James Needy

Tulsa Drillers 7, San Antonio Missions 5
W: Chris Anderson (2-0) L: James Needy (0-2) S: Daniel Coulombe (3)
HR: TUL O'Koyea Dickson (3)
Chris Anderson, a prospect highly touted by the OSA, made his second start of the season today against the San Antonio Missions, who sent James Needy to the mound.
It was a rough day for Needy, who allowed 7 runs in his first three innings before being pulled from the game. He was the losing pitcher today, and his record falls to 0-2.
Anderson, on the other hand, threw 6.1 strong innings, giving up only 2 runs, one of them unearned. He also had five strikeouts today and allowed just 4 hits and 1 walk. He was today's player of the game.
While the San Antonio bullpen did not allow a run and held the Drillers to 1 hit after Needy was pulled, Tulsa relievers Michael Thomas and Blake Smith gave up 3 runs in the 9th, making it necessary for Daniel Coulombe to come in and earn his third save of the season.
The Tulsa offense was led by O'Koyea Dickson, who hit a 3-run homer in the second inning. Seager, Lavin, Dixon, and Drake also had 1 RBI each, but Seager continues his cold streak to start the season as he is hitting at a .179 pace.

Tulsa Drillers at San Antonio Missions, 7:05 PM, attendance 1808, partly cloudy (59 degrees), wind blowing right to left at 9 mph.

Drillers lineup and pitcher: CF Jorge Bonifacio, LF Peter Lavin, 1B O'Koyea Dickson, SS Corey Seager, 3B Brandon Dixon, 2B Luis Mateo, RF Jon Garcia, C Ali Solis, DH Yadir Drake, P Chris Reed

Missions lineup and pitcher: 3B Gabriel Quintana, LF Alberth Martinez, RF Hunter Renfroe, DH Yeison Asencio, SS Casey McElroy, C Rocky Gale, CF Travis Jankowski, 1B Luis Domoromo, 2B Fernando Perez, P Colin Rea

Tulsa Drillers 5, San Antonio Missions 0 (10 innings)
W: Chris Reed (1-0) L: Frank Garces (1-2)
HR: None
The first 9 innings were lights out by pitchers from both sides. In fact, Tulsa pitcher Chris Reed had a no hitter going until the bottom of the 7th.
Reed pitched phenomenally, going 9 innings without allowing a run and giving up only three hits while recording 9 strikeouts.
Colin Rea was also superb for the Missions for 6.2 innings. He did not allow Tulsa to score and gave up six hits, striking out five.
The only real action early in the game was when Yeison Asencio was hit by a pitch and said some words to Chris Reed, but the situation did not escalate further.
In the top of the 10th Tulsa exploded, scoring five runs against San Antonio hurlers Frank Garces and Adam Cimber. The winning run was scored on a passed ball by Missions catcher Rocky Gale.

Tulsa Drillers at San Antonio Missions, 7:05 PM, attendance 1624, partly cloudy, 63 degrees, wind blowing in from right at 10 mph.

Drillers lineup and pitcher: CF Jorge Bonifacio, 2B Luis Mateo, 1B O'Koyea Dickson, SS Corey Seager, RF Jon Garcia, LF Peter Lavin, 3B Brandon Dixon, C Ali Solis, DH Tyler Ogle, P Zach Lee

Missions lineup and pitcher: C Griff Erickson, LF Alberth Martinez, DH Yeison Asencio, RF Hunter Renfroe, 1B Luis Domoromo, SS Casey McElroy, CF Kyle Gaedele, 2B Fernando Perez, 3B Gabriel Quintana, P Aaron Northcraft

Tulsa Drillers 5, San Antonio Missions 1
W: Zach Lee (1-0) L: Aaron Northcraft (0-1) S: Daniel Coulombe (4)
HR: None
Player of the Game: Zach Lee
After three eventless innings, the Drillers opened up the game by scoring three runs in the top of the fourth off of RBI singles by Tyler Ogle and Luis Mateo. The Missions responded in the bottom half of the inning when Hunter Renfroe singled and stole second base. He was then doubled home by Casey McElroy.
That would be the only run allowed by the Tulsa pitching staff today. Zach Lee pitched a good game, allowing just the one run on 6 hits in 6 innings. He also struck out 6 batters. Ralston Cash then came in to pitch two scoreless innings, and he was followed by Josh Ravin, who allowed two baserunners in the top of the 9th, so Daniel Coulombe came in to pitch the last two thirds of the ballgame.
The Drillers scored two more runs in the game, one off Northcraft and another off Luis F. De La Cruz in the 7th inning.
Corey Seager finally had a good game, going 3-for-5 today with an RBI. Hopefully this is the end of his slump.
Only two players on the Drillers didn't get hits today (O'Koyea Dickson and Ali Solis), and out of the 7 that did, only two didn't get more than one (Brandon Dixon and Peter Lavin).

Guilder Rodriguez of the Frisco Roughriders will miss 4 months with a broken kneecap. The 31-year-old is currently hitting .350 with 5 RBI in 20 ABs this year.

W: Mark Appel (2-1) L: Norge Ruiz (0-2) S: Angel Baez (3)
HR: TUL Jon Garcia (2) CC Brett Booth (1) Jiovanni Mier (3)
Player of the Game: CC Mark Appel
The Drillers opened up the game with a double by Jorge Bonifacio, who was later doubled home by O'Koyea Dickson to give the Drillers a 1-0 lead. But that was the only run they could score against Appel, who lasted 7.1 innings.
Ruiz, on the other hand, gave up 4 runs in the 5th and had to be replaced by Deck McGuire, who finished the game and allowed a solo homer by Jiovanni Mier. The Drillers scored two runs off a Garcia homer in the 9th to make it close, but in the end they left men on first and third and lost the game.
