Weekend Project: OOTP Civilization V
I have started a Civilization V game as the Americans, and I am planning on developing my nation up the point where I can build the Stadium improvement. First, I have founded the Baseball religion:
When I have four Stadium improvements built in cities I will found my OOTP league! |

I find it interesting that the technology that allows you to build the stadium is Refrigeration.
I was puzzled for a second until I realized... concessions. What's a baseball game without a cold beverage? |

The first city to build a stadium was no surprise. A group of Chicago miners who relish the warm days in their cold-climate city has easily assembled the resources to complete a stadium to celebrate their sport. When other cities follow the league will be formed, with the Commissioner's office in Chicago. The year is 1904.

It's been a long time since I have played a CIV V game long enough to build a stadium.

The following year in 1905 the city of New York finished constructing their stadium. A city on the central isthmus of the major American continent, they are a major shipping hub with canals allowing them to trade across both the Eastern and Western oceans. In addition to commerce it hosts the strongest naval forces in the world.

Boston finishes their stadium a year after New York in 1906. They are a very wealthy coastal city, with oil resources and the only gold mine in the country.
I have also discovered the secret of Flight, which will be essential in explaining how these teams can travel Last edited by Hammercraft; 06-29-2016 at 07:08 PM. |

In 1908 the city of Atlanta completes the construction of their stadium. A coastal city that is famous for aluminum production and buffalo herds, they are striking up a friendly rivalry with their neighbors in Boston. All three neighboring cities of the capital - Atlanta, Boston, and New York - now have teams and the pressure is on for Washington to complete their stadium.
The Civilization Baseball League is founded, and they have chosen Sid Meier to be their commissioner! |

Setting up the league to match the Civilization world is going to be interesting. First of all, almost all of the players are going to be American, but I am going to allow some international free agents to be included from any country that I have open borders with, and have them appear in proportion to their Civ score.
Additional civilizations: Byzantium (Turkey) Korea Mongolia Songhai (Morocco) - open borders Egypt - open borders Russia - open borders Greece Venice (Italy) - open borders Japan - open borders In Civ I'm working towards a cultural victory (spread baseball everywhere!) so I have open borders as often as possible. Except with the Greeks, which will never happen because Alexander is an aggressive troublemaker. Next I need to adjust the market settings for each franchise based on their city attributes. Population will determine the market size. The mathematical maximum size of a city is in excess of 100, but any city that reaches 40 would be a modern day New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City, etc. So I'm going to say that a population 40 city is equivalent to 20 in OOTP (ASTRONOMICAL). Since baseball is the religion for my country, I'm going to make Fan Loyalty determined by the amount of faith each city has. This is easy, they're all the same. Fan Interest will be determined by the Culture resource. While Chicago is the sport's origin, it's clear that the leisure capital of Boston will have a lot of fan interest. For 1908 it looks like the standard budget is anywhere between $300,000 and $500,000, and I will adjust that based on the gold each city produces. It will create a little competitive imbalance (somewhat realistically) if I give each team a budget based on their gold * $10,000. Looks like we're set to begin - let's see what happens! The inaugural season of the Civilization Baseball League is complete, and the New York Admirals defeated the Atlanta Bison to win the World Series.
I will now begin alternating a year in Civilization with a sim season in OOTP. Last edited by Hammercraft; 06-29-2016 at 09:22 PM. |

We renewed our open border policy with Songhai (Morocco). The Broadway musical district was established in Boston. Raja Ravi Varma painted the Sri Shanmukaha Subramania Swami in Washington. Ludwig von Beethoven composed his Fifth Symphony in Boston. Houston completed their stadium. Their city was originally founded on the southern continent to fend off Lady Theodora and the aggressive forces of Byzantium. They have a strong military tradition. The league agrees that they must wait until another city has completed a stadium, they will only accept new teams in pairs. The New York Admirals win their second consecutive championship over the Atlanta Bison. |

The city of Houston may no longer be interested in joining the league, their religion has been converted to Eastern Orthodoxy by the Byzantines! An inquisitor has been dispatched from the league office to evaluate their commitment. The city of Washington has completed their stadium. The capital for a growing American empire, it is surrounded by cities who have already established franchises the league. Aside from being the political seat for the country, Washington is also known for its incense plantation along the riverfront, and the plains that host herds of majestic elephants. Unfortunately, because of the religious upheaval in Houston, they must wait for another city to meet the requirements for entry to join with them as a pair of new teams. The New York Admirals narrowly defeat the Atlanta Bison to win their third consecutive championship, but the gap between teams seems to be getting smaller. The best player in the league is LF Dennis New of the Boston Gold, who won his second consecutive MVP. Last edited by Hammercraft; 06-30-2016 at 02:55 PM. |

We have renewed our open borders agreement with Egypt. The Boston Gold finished with the best record but lost the world series to the New York Admirals, who pulled out a series win again and have established a pattern of winning when it counts. The Atlanta Bison went from first to last, winning 38 fewer games than last season. Dennis New won his third consecutive MVP, and Hugo Segovia of the Chicago Miners was given the Pitcher of the Year award for collecting 31 of his team's 81 wins. |

Washington completes construction of the Eiffel Tower under the engineering leadership of Frank Lloyd Wright. The island city of Seattle finishes construction of their stadium, and seeks to join the league in a pair with Washington. Seattle is a newer city, but has seen explosive growth as a supplier of fish to the mainland. Surrounded by beautiful atolls and a rich variety of ocean life, they are the seafood capital of the world by a wide margin. The inquisitor sent to Houston has removed the heresy infecting the city, but they still need to rebuild their enthusiasm for baseball before they will be allowed to join the league. The league expands to six teams, adding the Washington Elephants and Seattle Anglers. Despite having the MVP, Most Valuable Pitcher, and Best Manager, The New York Admirals were finally unseated as champions by the Boston Gold. Boston ace Reid Fiske won two games in the 4-game sweep in the finals, and also added three hits in seven trips to the plate. |

On the Civilization side, here's a little demographic information for my empire as of 1912
The green arrow indicates teams that are currently building stadium improvements. If the production schedule holds, the league should expand along this timeline: 1915 - Houston and Almaty 1917 - Los Angeles and Miami 1921 - Buffalo and St. Louis 1923 - San Francisco and Portland Last edited by Hammercraft; 06-30-2016 at 04:48 PM. |

This is awesome. i was cleaning out our old house and came across an old Alpha Centauri rule book. And i was thinking it would be great to do this with that game. And i open this forum and find this! i hope you can keep this up.
Hopefully, Houston can turn from their wicked ways and i can have a team to root for. |

Chicago has completed the construction of their broadcast tower and becomes the first city to provide a radio broadcast of Miners games. New York 3B Bobbi Aloisi wins his third MVP award, but falls short of guiding his team back to another championship over the Boston Gold. He also becomes the first player to win a triple crown. The lone bright spot in the season for the Seattle Anglers was provided by 1B Jose Hill, who hit safely in 34 consecutive games - 5 games more than the Anglers won all season. New York finishes construction of its broadcast tower, and due to their location can provide broadcasts of Admirals games across the entire continent, much to the pain of Boston fans. Philadelphia begins construction of their stadium. They expect to have it completed in time for the 1926 season. The Chicago miners are crowned the new champion of the CBL after their domination of the Boston Gold in the championship. With a young core of talent averaging only 26 years old, Chicago looks like they will be a strong challenger for the next few years. Chicago LF Miles Courtney won the MVP (Chicago SS Chad Durada finished 3rd in the voting), and Chicago's SP Adrian "The Beast" Noffsinger won the best pitcher award by finishing 30-8 and posting an impressive 0.98 WHIP in 376 innings. |
