North Carolina Baseball League, Est. 1971
Welcome to the North Carolina Baseball League.
Hello, everybody and welcome to my fictional world. Why North Carolina you might ask, first let me introduce myself. My name is Bill and I am originally from South Florida, now living in North Carolina. Growing up in Florida the only MLB baseball we had was during Spring Training. I went to plenty of Spring Training games in Fort Lauderdale, home to the Yankees and later on the Orioles. My dad even got me an autographed Yogi Berra ball, that only lasted a few weeks. We needed a ball to play with and the auto didn't last with all the scuff marks and grass stains. After every Spring the teams would pack up and head North. Back then, we didn't have cable and all the sports channels so it was harder for a kid to follow the game. I filled the void with baseball cards and by watching the National Game of the Week, usually on Saturdays. Now I am in North Carolina, a state rich with baseball history. The only thing is, it has always been minor league baseball. Eventually the players would move on just like every Spring back in Florida. I want to give the baseball fans of North Carolina a Major League of their own. Teams that they can take pride in and players that won't be in a revolving door. League Setup: (1971) The NCBL will be 8 teams and 2 divisions. Each team will have one AAA team. One College Conference and High School Association as feeder leagues. There will be an inaugural draft. Amateur draft will be 5 rounds. (Each draft I plan on having one or two MLB players from that draft year.) These won't be HOF or All-Star players but players whose names might ring a bell. Especially if you were into baseball cards. I will be taking on the General Manager role for the Raleigh All-Stars. I may have left something out, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. This is my first time at running a dynasty and documenting it on the boards so bear with me. Now sit back and relax and lets see where this journey takes us. Last edited by STLRS95; 07-16-2016 at 04:36 PM. Reason: Added team that I am the GM for. |

The first round of the inaugural draft is complete. See below to see who your favorite team drafted. CF Mario Cruz - Cruz is a 25 year old CF that has a plus - plus bat and speed. A fine addition that will have Blue Sox fans cheering for many years. SS Luis Gonzalez - Gonzalez is one of the best pure hitters in the draft. He has a great eye at the plate and will steal his fair share of bases. At only 24 years old, he still has time to develop his power. 2B Bob McComas - The 27 year old second baseman will be a threat to steal every time he is on the base paths. Which will be plenty with his great plate discipline. SP Corey Pollard - Pollard is the first pitcher to go in the draft and projects to be an Ace from the start. The velocity and movement of his pitches will have many players swinging and missing. |

SP Pedro Berroa - Berroa is the first player north of 30 to be taken. He rates as the top pitcher in the draft. He has magnificent stuff and will plenty of games in Charlotte. SS Jesse Singleton - At 28 years old Singleton is probably at his peak. He has a good eye at the plate and will draw the walk, but he has holes in his swing. the Bulls may have reached here. SP Aaron Mooney - This 31 year old pitcher will have batters knees buckling with his breaking stuff. He has plenty of movement on his pitches and will rake up the K's. SP Peter Thornton - Only 26, Thornton has great command of his offspeed pitches. He keeps batters off balance and guessing and rarely gives up the home run ball. This concludes round 1 of the inaugural draft. Round 2 will begin with Wilmington and run in reverse order. |

I have taken over the reigns as GM of the Raleigh All-Stars. My notes and stories may tend to lean more towards Raleigh but I will try my best to keep you updated on all of the action within the dynasty. BTW, I didn't mention it before but the NCBL plays a 132 game schedule.
Opening Day is right around the corner. Stay tuned! |

Wilmington and Asheville picked to win their divisions. Opening Day is right around the corner and there is a buzz in the air. With the start of the baseball season that means the experts get to weigh in and grace us with their season predictions. Our experts pick Wilmington to win the Eastern Division comfortably on the strength of their pitching. In a tighter race Asheville is picked to win the Western Division, with their offense to much for the other teams to overcome. Watch the season play out and see if the experts know what they are talking about. On a side note my team the Raleigh All-Stars are picked to have the worse record in the league. With Opening Day tomorrow the owner Pedro Montes has weighed in with his expectations, "you should at least try to stay close to an even record." I guess it's a good thing that the owner isn't expecting much, but I thought I drafted this team pretty well. Looks like I have a lot of work to do to prove the so-called experts and Mr. Montes wrong. |

Greenville shuts out Raleigh on Opening Day Aaron Mooney of the Greenville Pirates pitched a 5 hit complete game shut out on the road against the Raleigh All-Stars.. Mooney let the defense work for him as he blanked the All-Stars through 9 innings with the unusual stat line of 0 K's and 0 BB's. Tovar blasts Charlotte past Durham in 10 Enrique Tovar was quick to make the home town fans in Charlotte happy with a 2 run blast in the 1st inning to give the Stingers the lead. Then he came up in the bottom of the 10th and sent them home even happier when he hit his second home run of the game. The walk-off blast gave Charlotte a 3 - 2 win over the Durham Bandits. Bulls handle Blue Sox 7 - 3 The Greensboro Bulls broke up a 1-1 tie in the 8th inning with some help from the Blue Sox. A passed ball and an error in the inning helped the Bulls score 6 runs. Jim Owens pitched had a solid outing for Greensboro giving up one earned run in 7 innings for the win. Fayetteville beats Wilmington 3 - 1 Geoffrey Starks had Wilmington batters guessing all night as he struck out 5 in 7 innings while giving up one run for the win. Jesus Ramos and Raul Moreno homered for the home town Heroes to give them all the offense they needed. |

From the GM's Desk
It was a rough first week in the NCBL. Going 2 - 6 in the first eight games. The offense only averaged 2 runs a game thru the first 7. Being shut out at home on Opening Night in front of a packed stadium. There was some bright spots. The last game of the week the offense exploded for 14 runs. The top three of the rotation pitched well but had no run support. The team is healthy and there are no injuries to report. Stay with us fans, it is early, it is not time to panic. Each session of From the GM's Desk will highlight one of our players. Player Spotlight - Corey Pollard Corey was our first pick in the inaugural draft and at only 25 is the Ace of the staff. He clocks in at the mid 90's and the movement on his pitches creates plenty of groundballs. At only 25 he has earned the respect of the players in the clubhouse with the hours he puts in at the ballpark. They have given Corey the nickname, "Captain." Season stats: |

From the GM's Desk
It has been a rough 2 weeks. We have gone 2-9 the last 2 weeks and tensions are running high. Our manager Robert Melton is feeling the pressure as he lashed out at some reporters earlier this week. Let me tell you right now and put all the rumors to rest, Melton is in no danger of being fired. He is our manager here in Raleigh. Now that we have that out of the way, I am very disappointed in the way this team is playing. We rank last or next to last in just about every team statistical category. Only a handful of players are producing and many have been put on notice that there are guys down at Fuquay-Varina looking to take their spots. On the injury front, Bill Peterson had a successful surgery and is 3 - 4 months away from starting any rehab. A fractured elbow takes time to heal. At 38 years old, he is the veteran presence on the squad. This team really misses his leadership on the field. Hopefully my next report will have some better news. |
