Good afternoon and welcome to the Royals Post Game Show on Opening Day, 1979! Well, the effects of spring training must not have worn off as opening day was a strong outing by the Royal bats, but the Royals pitching staff was beaten and roughed up. Starter Dennis Leonard lasted 3 1/3 innings, giving up seven earned runs while the bullpen caught it square in the jaw afterwards with Marty Pattin being socked for five runs. However, first baseman, John Wathan went a perfect four for four with four runs scored, George Brett went three for five. Frank White contributed with three rbi's. But the big story here was the Blue Jays. Former Royal, big John Mayberry was three for six with four rbi's while second baseman, Bob Bailor was the player of the game with an incredible four for five with four runs scored and two ribbies. Nine of the eleven Blue Jay batters had a hit.
The Royals are off tomorrow and will have time to try and shake this off. When we get back after it, Royals lefty, Larry Gura will face off against Dave Stieb.
Again, the Royals get hammered with a 14-8 loss to open the season. Hopefully, there's better luck in the immediate future.
So for Denny Mathews, Fred White and producer / engineer, Ed Shepard. This is ForeverRoyalKC saying thanks for reading and good afternoon from Royals Stadium in Kansas City.Name: Capture.JPG
