What If?
After today's horrific news of Jose Fernandez, I decided that I'm taking a brief break from some of my other projects I've been working on to do a "what if" league for players who passed away during their careers. Obviously, I could go extremely far back, but to keep it easier to maintain, I feel that I'll go back to one of the players from around the era I grew up in.
I decided that I'm going to start in 1993, and see what happens with the remaining years of these players' careers. I'll be beginning with the tragic Indians trio of Tim Crews, Steve Olin, and Cliff Young. I may try to get most of these players all on to one team, try to make it easier (while maintaining a competitive team as well). I'll post final stats when their careers are over. |

That sounds very interesting. Another interesting aspect could be promising players who had careers derailed by injuries as well, or players who lost multiple seasons due to being involved in the military. Roberto Clemente, Thurman Munson, Oscar Taveras, and Nick Adenhart are some of the unfortunate deaths but on the injury/early retirement side of things players like Mark Prior and Sandy Koufax would be interesting as well.
