THIS THREAD WILL PRIMARILY BE FOLLOWING THE PBL FROM 2012 AND ON, BUT PRESENTLY IN THE YEAR 2009.

EXPECT GAME OF THE WEEK REPORTS, PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS, AND SOME UPDATING THINGS.


LEAGUE: PBL (Professional Baseball League)

BACKGROUND:

The PBL started as an 8 team league. After Brooklyn and the NY Giants left for the West ... people began to populate the local Independant league stadiums more regularly,

One such league got a steady and firm reputation for good baseball and heated rivalries which the NE baseball bums began to thoroughly enjoy.

The players' names began to be in the papers and their personalities known throughout.

The League decided to seize opportunity and make themselves into a top professional league.

~~~ The real birth of this league was based on the teams I would make-up when I played with my late 80s, early 90s topp and score cards.

I suppose I didn't know the details of the players and teams, so I made up the back stories and rivalries.

One rivalry: New York Barons and the Boston Cannons are derived from the old Will Clark led Giants and the Canseco led A's ...

They weren't originally named the Barons and Cannons, but later in life, I planned to modify teams in the now old Triple Play game, and decided to make more realistic nicknames and better ones than the one I had as a child.

I had a pretty decent historical PBL universe on my ootp 10 and 11versions ... where I started a history and took it to 2009 or 2010 or so....

In ootp 14 I made a league into the future as I lost the history, so I decided to start in 2020 .. with new lineups....but I missed having legit records when recorss were broken so in the ootp 14, I made a historicla game

But also, there was something more I enjoyed about that first historical PBL .... MLBers I reflected in the game ... 10-20 of them or so ....

So I went ahead and decided to make a new historical PBl .. paying more attention to the names of players and the type of players .... for instance... the game started in 1956, so cubans were a part of the league... but vanished in the 60s .... and although some Spanish players were around, the league was mostly American

But MOST importantly ... I took the time and effort to make uniforms for each error .... my previous historical PBL I only adjusted colors and made uniforms for the season I would actually follow and not sim...

I also paid very careful attention to the stars of the League year in and year out and adjusted their names should there be some I would not want to see in the pros...

in the early 1980s, I began to create players with MLBer reflections.... I used real hometowns, and sizes (originally, game develops weight however), and copied potential ratings as it suited me ... fx. I made Paul Sorrento a real power guy and Bob Hamelin

IN the late 90s, the MLBers I wanted to make were almost all made, so I began to work on the draft classes..... so almost all draft players from 1998-2009 have been examined by me .. if not changed and altered

I recently took advantage of the $10 World Series offer, and was to make the 2009 draft class..... the year I played out in the first historical PBL league ...

Sort of happy that it was at this point I switched ootp versions..... because it is as though 1956-2008 seasons were all historical..... and now we are nearly approaching a period in time where I won't sim a single season more..... I have decided to start such seasons in 2012, but 2009 was sort of where I had left off.....

It all fits in my brain......

The Buffalo Arrows and New Orleans were dominate in the 80s, and played several championship games against one another.

IN fact, nearly all championship games either had New Orleans or Buffalo in the game.

Both have also won recently, New Orleans is the latest winner

Two players which I completely made up ... well, not exactly, Will Clark and Jose Conseco were the inspirations for these two when I don't I was even 10 y/o.

Initially, they were both called Jose .. Jose Canard and Jose Narzareth.

But then as I got older, I realized they were not Spanish. So I changed their name to John, and then later decided they shouldn't have the same first name anyway, so Rick and John.

Canard turns out to be a real last name, Narzareth.... no idea where I got this as a name.

John Canard was inspired by Will CLark... the first MLB autograph I received.

But John Canrad is more like Lou Gehrig with Joe Dimaggio status..

Will Clark got his presence also by a reflective-type, named Cliff Wilkes

sticking with Clark, his ever-present rival Rafy Palmeiro is also seen here:

Zanardi and Ellis were never fictional players like Canard and Narzareth before OOTP 16.

Although both 1B are representing Buffalo, Ellis made his name with the Atlantic KNights as well

Louis Alday and Carl Ballard are the first players shown in-game HOF
