Exert from Baseball in the Gallente Federation by Pandon Lalycer

Baseball, more than any other sport has captured the nation’s imagination. In the famous words of radio announcer for the Miles Nuggets Aette Volidier it has been referred to as “a children’s game fit for adults” and the “simplest, most complicated, most analysed, most talked about, most popular, most lucrative pastime in the Federation. ”
Baseball is played by young children up to adults, in colleges and by professional athletes. Like the progression from children playing catch to playing in school, to college and to big ball the game has also grown from being an invention of a college law class to being the most popular pastime in the Federation. Odalanne Tevore has said “there is nothing more beautiful than watching Aques Vaydaerer run the bases, or Ellinald Kotvoman wind up or Fibemulr Malbrund swing for the fence. ” This beautiful spectacle is what has drawn countless fans to the game. Sele Vardt has even been famously recorded as saying “that playing short-stop for the Diplomats was more important than my first and second marriages.”
If we want to understand baseball’s growth we need to start at the beginning; the game of baseball was not born on the field or the play ground but in a law class at the Gallente National University. In 1878 Stroure Oineshin famously presented a brief to his students to create “the laws of a game that is easy enough for children to understand and interesting enough to keep an adult’s attention and includes both physical prowess and a tactical mind. ” The students spent three months taking the well known children’s play ground game of Lineball and turning it into a game that resembled modern Baseball. If a fan of the modern game had seen the first exhibition game in August of 1878 held at the hallowed ground of Dodixie Common, they would have recognised several rules including three outs to an inning and four bases however the six innings played on that day and the lack of a strike zone or foul balls would have left them confused as would the un-orthodox under hand pitching of the first pitchers. From that August the popularity of the game expanded and the rules were adjusted from the original six rules. The first organised game between two clubs (Dodixie Nationals and Dodixie Saints) was held in 1885 and by that time included the nine innings, a strike zone and a foul ball regulation. Between 1878 and 1885 there were many games played throughout the country but the game in 1885 is seen as the first formal game of baseball. By formal is meant to teams with recorded players playing in an organised league with a schedule and recorded results. There were five players that played in both the game in 1878 and the game in 1885 – Rorsa Oillard, Mornodire Lange and Niganaya Lassin playing for the Nationals and Yvylier Allottive and Allane Caretyn for the saints. The creation of Baseball’s first two clubs, known as the Ol’ Firm, was not until 1882 for the Nationals and 1885 for the Saints. The two clubs were made up of players who paid subscriptions to the club and had a role in the decision making process of club affairs. The first organised season was eight games with two games each Saturday over four weeks, all the games were played at the Dodixie Common with teams alternating home and away status each week.

Exert from Baseball in the Gallente Federation by Pandon Lalycer

To understand the founding period of baseball in the Gallente Federation one must understand two individuals more than any others because they were the main leaders of two of the movements of Baseball. Rorsa Oillard was one of the original players in Stroure Oineshin’s law class and was later a leader of the Dodixie Nationals. Oillard was one of the leading advocates of amateur baseball; he was the spear head of the traditionalists and was very influential in resisting some of the evolution of the game. Oillard has also been accused of being elitist of resisting the move to making baseball the people’s game. He believed that baseball should be played by amateur players who paid the club subscriptions to play the game not professional players that were paid by the club.
Clashing with Oillard was often Allane Caratyn. Caratyn was the son of Bosceque Caratyn the CEO of Gallente Federal Bank. Caratyn was also part of the original designers of the game and played for the Dodixie Saints in the first game in 1885. Caratyn saw the potential of baseball as a professional game and as a money making venture. Within a few years he was canvassing Gallente for other men of resource to invest in the game of baseball and was the driving force behind moving away from the amateur clubs owned by the players to the professional clubs owned by external financial interests. Caratyn and Oillard often clashed in the early days which often fueled the rivalry between the conservative Nationals and the progressive Saints.

Expansion

Exert from Baseball in the Gallente Federation by Pandon Lalycer

With the success of the 1885 season it was no real surprise when two new clubs (The Dodixie Athletes and The Dodixie Masons) applied to join the Association. The Atheles were a club along the same model as The Nationals and Saints – players paid subscriptions to join the club; the Masons were unique in that they had an owner who paid for the costs of the club. Hykan Parmedent was a construction baron and he saw baseball as a way of building his workers together and providing recreation. All of the members of the Masons were employees of Parmedent. Olliard was not prepared to allow the players to join the association as he did not want the game “sullied by the lower class” he believed the game should be played only by “respectable gentlemen. ” One of his concerns was that having an owner meant that anybody could play baseball even if they did not pay subscriptions it was opening up baseball to types that were unfavorable to Olliard – of particular concern were the number of migrants in the Mason team. Olliard’s protest was overruled at the meeting of the association (with three representatives from each of the two clubs) with four votes for the inclusion of the two new clubs and two votes against. The conflict did also raise the need of a commissioner to settle disputes between clubs in the future however it was not until 1888 that a league would appoint a baseball commissioner.

Gallente Professional Baseball League

The 1888 Season saw the start of the first break-away league the Gallente Professional Baseball League. The league was the brain child of Allane Caratyn and his father Bosceque Caratyn as an attempt at monetising baseball. Allane Caratyn had been looking for other entrepreneurs who would fund teams such as Hykan Parmedent had done for the Masons. The first step was to turn the Dodixie Saints, whom Caratyn played for at the time into a privately owned club – some players did resist this moving and left the team but Caratyn won out and was announced as the owner of the club in December of 1887. He then proceded to find other potential owners and found them in the form of Laraert Weyllaenalle, Montvly Zarlere and Lastegghem Cavin. Laraert Weyllaenalle was the owner of the Botane Metropoliton newspaper and named the team he found the Botane Metros. Montvly Zarlere was the owner of Archer Sports Co. and named his club the Botane Archers and finally Lastegghem Cavin of Cavin Breweries founded the Du Annes Brewers. With the three new teams and the existing Dodixie Saints the new league was formed it was decided that the new league would play 24 games with the games being played in series of four – one game on Thursday, one on Friday and then the Saturday double-header that was the feature of the Gallente Baseball Association. It was thought that the league would fail as it had been put together so hastily and also that weekday games would not attract the fans. Many critics also doubted how well teams would be able to pay their players. However many of the top players from the Association did make the gamble and jumped to the league.
The gap that was left by the defection of the Saints was filled by the new club the Erme Emeralds in the Gallente Baseball Association.

Another fictional world!

You have an interesting beginning starting with a two team league and building from there. i'm loving your story. It reminds me of the First Inning in the Ken Burns Baseball documentary.

Good luck!

Help

Hey Darkhorse thanks for your support.

Is anybody able to tell me how to put screenshots from the game into the forums. At the moment I am transferring it into the external browser using the snipping tool and then putting it into Paint.net and saving it as a png file.

I am wondering if there is an easier way.

The way you did it is pretty good. Use the F12 button in game and it might save you half a step.
