Pee Wee Reese goes crazy.....
So I'm doing the now "token" replay of baseball history. I'm up to 1946, and Pee Wee Reese was traded to the Yankees at the tail end of 1945.
He finished 1945 with 15 dingers. Not too terribly out of control, even for Pee Wee Reese. However, in 1946 he goes nuts and hits 32 homers. I check his abilities, and he has morphed into a "brilliant" power hitter. Anyone else seen any out-of-the-blue type developments like this? |
How about Frankie Frisch going nuts in my little replay:

Geeze, an incredible player like Frankie Frisch is traded twice! I'm curious, if you have the information, who it was for. My first simulation with Frankie Frisch (reached about 1935ish), he turned into a moderate power hitter. My second time around, he didn't develop that way, and ended becoming just a good but not great player. I would post the numbers, but I don't have them available.

Frisch was traded 3 times in the HOB2 although the first 2 were teams unloading him in his free agent season.
Frankie Frisch Frisch has developed into a solid hitter but has not become a homerun threat at all. He had two big homer years in 1929 and 1930 but so did half the league as the offensive was so dominant those two seasons. His biggest claim to fame is the 8 World Series he has played in so far, including 1927 when he was named the Series MVP. His postseason achievements are discussed in this thread: http://www.400softwarestudios.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=000425 Frisch was drafted 11th overall by Brooklyn in 1919 and after a year and a half seasoning with AAA Montreal he was ready for the majors. He played all 6 postseason games for the Dodgers in 1920 and was also a key factor in Brooklyn pennants in 1922,23 and 24. He signed with Cincinnati as a free agent following the 1924 campaign and made his first allstar appearance in 1925. The Reds dealt him to the Cubs for outfielder Eddie Murphy (who hit .308 in his 20 year and counting career) in July of 1926. Frisch helped the Cubs to pennants in 1926 and 1927. He signed with the White Sox following his MVP performance in the 1927 series but by 1930 he was back in the National League. The White Sox sent him to Pittsburgh in July of 1929 for rookie outfielder Johnny Frederick (who would win rookie of the year that season but has tailed off since a trade to the Red Sox). In 1930, the Pirates moved Frisch to the Phillies in a move that may have cost the Pirates the pennant and certainly won it for the Phillies. See my 1930 thread for more on this http://www.400softwarestudios.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=000404 After helping the Phillies to the 1930 pennant Frisch had a memorable game 6 of the World Series against the White Sox. He set World Series single game records with 3 homers and 8 rbi's in a 13-10 Philadelphia win that tied the series. The Phillies lost game 7 however. Frisch then moved on to the Yankees as a free agent where he still resides. In 1933, Babe Ruth joined the Yanks as a free agent pickup and the Frisch luck rubbed off on the Bambino, getting Babe his first World Series ring. Frisch is 35 as the 1933 season comes to an end. He has one more year left in his contract with the Yankees.
CAREER STATS : YEAR AVG HR RBI G AB H 2B 3B R SB CS BB K OBP SLG TEAMS 1920 .248 0 8 40 101 25 2 2 11 6 1 3 2 .269 .307 BRO 1921 .351 2 47 102 302 106 16 7 67 16 4 15 12 .382 .470 BRO 1922 .328 3 63 127 536 176 19 24 99 45 10 18 9 .350 .470 BRO 1923 .315 5 71 141 588 185 27 15 110 46 8 26 11 .344 .437 BRO 1924 .344 5 88 132 457 157 15 5 84 44 8 48 4 .406 .431 BRO 1925 .314 11 75 150 582 183 17 19 119 40 14 72 13 .390 .466 CIN,NL 1926 .336 12 88 144 547 184 26 9 119 39 14 80 17 .421 .483 CIN,NL,CHC 1927 .319 12 85 150 574 183 28 15 115 30 11 72 9 .395 .483 CHC,NL 1928 .323 8 81 116 452 146 22 7 83 29 5 67 9 .410 .456 CHW 1929 .367 31 147 149 592 217 27 14 149 47 7 78 19 .440 .617 CHW,PIT,NL 1930 .327 24 125 146 562 184 27 15 120 28 9 76 12 .408 .557 PIT,NL,PHI 1931 .330 11 88 152 566 187 19 8 117 48 4 77 18 .411 .451 NYY 1932 .277 14 69 148 584 162 19 18 97 34 9 66 22 .351 .443 NYY 1933 .264 16 74 146 595 157 33 4 100 27 5 49 20 .324 .413 NYY,AL Total AB : 7038 Total AVG : .320 Total Hits: 2252 Total HR : 154 Total RBI : 1109 Total Runs: 1390 Total SB : 479 - POST SEASON STATS YR AG TM LG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB K BA OBP SP TB 1920 21 BRO NL 6 25 5 9 2 1 0 2 1 0 0 0 .360 .333 .520 13 1922 23 BRO NL 4 18 3 5 1 0 0 2 1 0 2 0 .278 .350 .333 6 1923 24 BRO NL 5 21 4 6 2 0 0 2 2 0 2 0 .286 .348 .381 8 1924 25 BRO NL 6 21 1 5 1 0 0 5 1 0 3 1 .238 .333 .286 6 1926 27 CHC NL 6 23 4 4 0 1 1 2 1 0 3 0 .174 .269 .391 9 1927 28 CHC NL 6 24 6 9 0 1 1 6 1 1 7 2 .375 .516 .583 14 1930 31 PHI NL 7 29 6 11 1 1 3 11 1 0 3 1 .379 .438 .793 23 1933 34 NYY AL 7 29 7 8 2 0 1 3 3 0 5 1 .276 .382 .448 13 TOTALS 47 190 36 57 9 4 6 33 11 1 25 5 .300 .378 .484 92 -
|

I am simming the BoSox starting from 1916 and Frisch has become the star of my team as well, playing every infield position except 1B. I switch him based on where my weakness is each season but he has played a full position at each position 2B,3B and SS, mostly 2B. I'll try to dig out his stats but he has an incredible career so far. Johnny Frederick was one of my draft picks as well and has turned into a real star.

Sam Horn, I traded the bum away from my Red Sox team (using the real life fade he displayed) to Detroit and he has been in the league leaders for HR's ever since. Thru 1994 he has 139 homers (including the partial season with the Red Sox, a year on the DL, and a year in the minors.) If only he had those numbers when he was playing for the Bo Sox.

These stories are great to hear.

A reply more than a year later? How often does THAT happen. But hey, these stories ARE great to hear...
