Thanks for the remarks, guys. It's helpful for me to make these reports, so I'd do them even if nobody cared, but it's good to know people are reading them.

Any promising trade talks (no specifics, I know)? Maybe an Ozzie Guillen-type who can give you an empty .300? Any of these guys available? I think that might really help that destitute lower half of the order, but who knows?

I've looked around for good avg/obp guys and hadn't found any available or that I could get without giving up too much. Rebuilding can be hard when you don't have quality veterans to trade away. I tried all last year to move Mosqueda and Sedgwick, but found no takers. Sedgwick might be moved this year; he's more attractive to other owners now that he's hitting.
I haven't solicited any trades since Galyon and Leto were acquired. In addition to Sedgwick, I'll probably move Titsworth near the deadline, and he should command top dollar. I'll be looking for AA/AAA OF prospects and pitching prospects. Picks are nice, but I learned my lesson about trading with good teams last season. The #1 pick I got for Sauron Evil last year might as well have been a #2 pick, because the team I dealt him to went on to do so well. The 5 and 4 star prospects were all gone by pick #15, so pick #20 didn't help me that much. Besides, I'm shooting to be good in 2007 and developmentally I'll need players who will be ready then. At this rate, my first round pick should be worth a lot, hopefully there'll be a good OF in the draft next year. The past two seasons, all the top guys have been infielders, which is one of the reasons my minor league teams are stacked at the infield positions.

This Sim - 4-5 Game Log 5/26 - 4-0 WIN @ Connecticut; Titsworth pitches a 2-hit shutout and Anthony Pooler goes 3-for-4. 5/27 - 8-3 Loss @ Connecticut; Hollingshead; 3-3, HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Jones gives up 7 ER in 5.1 IP. 5/28 - 4-3 WIN v. NY; Kearns injured while pitching in the 2nd, so the bullpen came up big. Cortes went 3-3 and Manning hit a pinch-hit HR (1). 5/29 - 5-1 Loss v. NY; Moreno falls to 1-4 as he allows 10 hits and 5 runs in 6 innings. 5/30 - 3-2 WIN v. He also set a career high with 11 k's. 6/2 - 4-0 Loss v. Connecticut; Jones falls to 1-6 as he allows 4 runs in 8.1 innings. 6/3 - 5-3 Loss v. Connecticut; Handel gets a hit in his 6th straight game. Too many people on the NOT list. Injuries Soto is now healthy and will make his 1st career start next sim. However, we've lost Kearns, our #2 starter, for 2-3 weeks. AAA Starter James Pugh will miss a week with a sore arm as well. Rotation Code:

SIM REPORT 8, 2005 SEASON
Okay, for some reason my lineup changes weren't reflected in the last sim, so ignore all the lineup changes from the last sim report
.Our league has been undergoing a host change so I'm sure the mix up had something to do with that rather than my own forgetfulness .Team Record: 21-42, 21.5 GB This Sim: 2-8 Okay, now I'm wishing my lineup changes had gone through .Game Log 6/4 - 4-1 Loss @ NY; HR: Kidder (9). Northrup gives up 4 runs in 6.1 IP. 6/5 - 1-0 Loss @ NY; I hate 1-0 losses! Titsworth allows 3 hits in 7 IP but one of those 3 hits was a HR. Pooler had 3 hits for the locos, but a Clow 2B was the only other hit for the Locomotives. 6/6 - 6-4 Loss @ NY; HR: Kidder (10). Jones pitches fine allowing 3 runs in 7 IP, but Meyerson's bad pitching finally bites me. He allows 2 hits and a run without retiring a batter and takes the loss. Monday 6/6/2005 : Blaine Titsworth increases his talent in getting strikeouts! Blaine Titsworth increases his talent in avoiding hits! Blaine Titsworth increases his talent in getting strikeouts! 6/7 - 8-1 Loss v. Louisianna; HR: Kidder (11). He is on fire, but the rest of the Locos... 4 errors and 6 walks never add up to a good day. Moreno gets the loss and falls to 1-6. 6/8 - 2-0 Loss V. Louisianna; Northrup pitches a gem but the Locos only collect 4 hits. Oh well. At least we didn't make any errors. 6/9 - 7-5 WIN v. Louisianna; I can't believe we won a game. Leto hits a 3-run blast (6) and Hollingshead and Clow each collect 3 hits to power the offense. Titsworth allows 3 in 8 IP and moves to 8-4 on the year. 6/10 - 7-2 Loss v. Louisianna; Leto has a day he'd rather forget. 2 errors and an 0-4, 3 K line. Jones allows 6 runs in 7 IP, but only 2 are earned. 6/11 - 4-3 Loss @ Florida; Handel hits his first HR of the season, a 3-run shot, but errors cost the Locomotives another game. Moreno allows 2 earned runs in 6 innings for his best start in recent history. 6/12 - 2-1 Loss @ Florida; Cortes goes 3-3, but we have only 3 other hits. Clow hits a solo HR (7) and Northrup takes a tough loss allowing 2 runs in 7.2 IP. 6/13 - 3-1 WIN @ Florida; Well at least we end the sim with a win. Pat Galyon hits his second HR as a Loco and is now batting 20 points higher than Sedgwick. Titsworth accounts for both wins in this sim and has 3 good performances. Who's Hot? Told ya, Pat Galyon, leading ya to victory.
Viktor Tay is still a cool story, but he's Ozzie Guillen-like with his hacking ways. But in five years, every hit he has will be long gone. All 5 of 'em. Good Luck next sim. Craig |

Team Record: 24-49, 24 GB
This Sim: 3-7 Game Log 6/14 - 5-2 Loss v. Mississippi; Sauron Evil faced his old mates for the first time and beat us by allowing just 2 runs in 8 innings. Handel: 2-2, BB. 6/15 - 6-1 Loss v. Mississippi; Locos go a combined 3-30 with 1 walk. Clow hit a solo HR (8). 6/16 - 9-0 Loss v. Scull takes yet another loss without allowing any earned runs. 6/18 - 3-2 WIN @ NC; Hollingshead hit a HR (8) and Scull rebounds with 2 scoreless innings for the win. 6/19 - 4-3 Loss @ NC; Kidder: 2-4, 2 HR (13), 2 R, 3 RBI. 6/20 - 13-0 Loss @ NC; Ouch. Soto allows 6 runs in 1.2 innings in his second career start. 6/21 - 3-2 Loss @ Tennessee; Leto HR (7) can't help Locomotives overcome the Express. 6/22 - 8-1 WIN @ Tennessee; Biggest win in a while. HR: Hollingshead (9), Knuth (1). Northrup: 8 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, K. 6/23 - 7-5 WIN @ Tennessee; Could this be the start of a streak? We'll have to wait until the next sim to see. Hollingshead hits HR #10 and Titsworth earns win #10. Kidder makes his first error in nearly 20 games. Who's Hot? I want to see Pat Galyon start to tear it up. As the GM who sent him you way...I feel obligated to be the President of the Official Pat Galyon Fan Club.

Galyon might not be tearing it up offensively, but he's really helped out a lot at 1B. My only disappointment with Galyon is that I was hoping for 6-7 HR per 100 AB, and he's only got 2 HR in 87 AB.

Good to see I'm not the only member of the Pat Galyon Fan Club!
The support has been good and he had a good sim (as you will soon see). And if Titsworth finishes the season a Loco... Well, he's on pace to win 20 games for a last-place team. That in itself is pretty remarkable, but some voters prefer players on good teams so we'll see.

Team Record - 28-52, last in FF North, 25 GB
This Sim - 4-3 Game Log 6/24 - OFF DAY 6/25 - 2-1 WIN v Florida; Kearns returns from the DL and pitches brilliantly: 8.2 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 K 6/26 - 5-4 Loss v Florida; Jones is pounded for 14 hits in 8.2 innings, but Scull takes the loss in the 11th. 6/27 - 9-3 WIN v Florida; Tracey Northrup moves to 5-7 with 7.2 strong innings. Knuth hits HR #2 on the season. 6/28 - OFF DAY 6/29 - 6-4 Loss v Massachusetts; Galyon: HR (3), Titsworth allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in 8 innings. Mass scored all 6 runs in the top half of the ninth. 3 off of Titsworth and 3 off of Scull. 6/30 - 3-2 Loss v Massachusets; Clow: 3-4, HR (9), 2 RBI. Kearns pitched a gem, 7 shutout innings. But our usually reliable bullpen continues to let us down as Harden allows 2 runs in 0.2 innings and Garrard allows a 9th inning HR. 7/1 - 3-1 WIN v Massachusetts; A career day for Robert Jones, who pitches 7 innings and allows no runs on 3 hits. He also K'd 5 batters. John Pucci was 2-2 with 2 BB and 2 RBI. 7/2 - 5-2 WIN @ Connecticut; Pucci goes 1-3, but his 1 is a 3-run HR and that's all the help red-hot Tracey Northrup needs. My starters are really coming around, and had it not been for my bullpen I easily could have gone 7-0 last sim. Who's Hot? Big deal lots of teams in your league have starters with below 4.00 era. You need to shoot for below 3.58 era.

Great job last sim, Chappy. It's all because of Pat Galyon's veteran leadership, I tell ya. Well, maybe not. Rotation is really on a roll, especially Northrup. Hopefully Clow will keep up the hot streak this time around.

Team Record - 30-59, 29 GB
This Sim - 2-7 Game Log 7/3 - 9-5 Loss @ Connecticut; Armand Manning has a hit in his 11th straight game, but the 3rd career start for Soto is as bad as the first two and the Locos get blown out. 7/4 - 3-1 Loss @ Connecticut; The Locos are held to two hits. Titsworth was sensational allowing 1 run on 3 hits in 7 IP, but Meyerson allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 0.2 IP. My worst fear has happened... Titsworth was injured in the game, later diagnosed as bone chips. He will miss 5 weeks, but more importantly, it will be hard to trade him now. 7/5 - 5-3 WIN @ Massachusetts; Manning (2), Leto (8) and Sedgwick (5) all HR as the Locos rally behind Kearns who allows just 1 ER in 8 IP. He is now 5-7 after a slow start. Manning was 3-3 with a 2B, HR, BB, and 2 RBI. 7/6 - 4-3 Loss @ Massachusetts; Penn led 3-2 most of the game, but a late 2-run HR off of starter Robert Jones ruined an otherwise good pitching performance. 7/7 - 6-2 WIN @ Massachusetts; Clinton Lewis's 2-run 7th inning HR gave the Locos a 2-1 lead and the hits kept coming after that as the Locos take 2 out of 3 from Mass. Northrup is now 7-7 after allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. 7/8 - 8-7 Loss v NY (14 innings); HR: Handel (2). Soto finally has a good start, allowing 3 ER in 7 IP on 10 hits. Okay, not a good start, but MUCH BETTER start. Anyhow, as has become the pattern this year the bullpen fell apart. This time it was Marguez, allowing 4 runs in the top of the 14th. The Locos rally for 3 in the bottom of the inning but come away one run short, and fall to 2-6 in extra-inning games. 7/9 - 9-2 Loss v NY; The bad pitching carries over as NY puts up 4, 2 and 3 runs in the first 3 innings. And when it means nothing, the bullpen puts up 6 good innings. Starter Kearns has his worst outing of the season and doesn't make it out of the 2nd inning. 7/10 - 14-2 Loss v NY; It keeps getting worse. Maybe we wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have all these games against NY, they constantly throw up double digits against us. Anyhow, Robert Jones was the first to pitch badly for us today, but he wasn't the last. The bullpen allowed 6 runs in 4.2 innings to stay on my ****list. 7/11 - 11-5 Loss v NY; More of the same. Sedgwick hit his 6th HR of the season, but he also made his 12th error. Northrup allowed 4 runs in 6 IP and the bullpen allowed 6 in 3 innings. Grrrr. 7/12 - OFF DAY (ALL STAR BREAK) 7/13 - ALL STAR GAME - No Locos, only Titsworth deserved to go and he's on the DL. Who's Hot? John Pucci - Last 5 games: 6-19, .316, 0 HR, 4 RBI Brenton Handel - Last 5 games: 6-19, .316, 1 HR, 2 RBI Tracey Northrup - Last 7 starts: 4-2, 2.55, 53.0 IP Armand Manning - Last 6 games: 12-24, .500, 1 HR, 4 RBI Brandon Hollingshead - Last 5 games: 4-13, .308, 0 HR, 2 RBI Who's Not? Francisco Soto - Last 3 starts: 0-2, 12.27 ERA, 11.0 IP Jason Leto - Last 5 games: 1-13, .077, 0 HR, 0 RBI Pat Galyon - Last 10 games: 1-21, .048, 0 HR, 1 RBI Robert Jones - Last 3 starts: 1-2, 5.19 ERA, 17.1 IP Joseph Knuth - Last 6 games: 1-19, .053, 0 HR, 1 RBI Wow. I think that's a record for guys on the hot list. Now that Hollingshead is back, Pucci's PT will go down, but it's nice to have him off the bench. Galyon's had a rough 10 game stretch, but there are enough believers in him to keep him in the lineup. Especially since he still hasn't made any errors. Injuries Blaine Titsworth has hit the DL for 5 weeks, which hurts our team in two ways. For one, we won't have our dominant pitcher in the rotation and secondly, his trade value is lowered immensely. He will be back the second week of August, 2 weeks after the deadline. Hollinghead is 3-10 since returning from an injury. He doesn't seem to of missed a beat. Pitching Code:

Player Profile
As I've mentioned before, I've grown really attatched to some of these scrubs that make up the Pennsylvania Locomotives. One player in particular I'd like to tell you about is Anthony Pooler, our starting catcher. From a glance, Anthony is not a great player. He's slow, has no power, and has a career .264 average. But here's what I like about Pooler:
Code:
Name G GS PO A DP TC E PCT INN RANGE PB RSTA RTO RTO% A. Pooler 61 61 311 44 1 356 1 .997 522.1 6.12 0 70 39 55.7 M. Finck 38 27 140 15 0 160 5 .969 258.0 5.41 0 42 8 19.0 J. Espino 3 1 5 1 0 6 0 1.000 11.0 4.91 0 1 1 100.0 Anthony Pooler has thrown out more runners than any catcher in the league (39). Second most, DC's B. Ramos with 28. Pooler has nailed 55.7% of attempted base-stealers. Of cathcers with 15 or more RTO, the second highest pct is B. Hill of Mississippi's 39.7%. That's why I love having Anthony Pooler behind the plate. Code:

Keep up the good work Chappy. Just hang in there this season, as it seems you have a good base to build upon with some quality prospects. You should be a powerhouse in the next few seasons. Good luck!
and I got a question for you. You keep listing Sedgwick as your team leader in BA but both Clow (.258) and Pooler (.246) are hitting better with 240+ ABs. How many ABs does Sedgwick have, especially after he's sat for the past few sims? |
