The Heritage Baseball League (SP Fictional League)
how do you guys get the good websites going for your leagues? The ones with all the stats and all?
I am just in my 2nd month (7/5/1945) of my opening season for the Heritage Baseball League....and would like to start posting things that are going on... like... 1. We have had only 1 No Hitter game, pitched by Jude Dunfee\ 2. We have had 2 players run the cycle (1st was Ernie "Ernie Ladd" Holt, 2nd was Carlos Fernandez) 3. A VERY tight race for the Heritage League Title, as the Avalon Knights just took the #1 spot from the Capital City Legacy (I watched that game, Heritage Pitcher of the Month Willy Tobey, lost a close game to the Knights, 6-5, giving up 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to lose it, Heritage Batter of the Month CF Steve Johnson hit the game winning 2 RBI, with his first hit all game) 4. The Capital City Legacy and the Eastmoor Warriors are tied for 2nd (.533) and are both only 1 game behind. They are also in the middle of a 5-game series vs. Eastmoor (Legacy 1, Eastmoor 2, with the first 2 games in the series going 11 innings and 12 innings). Followed close behind them are the Wheelersburg Pirates with .500 (2 GB). Then the Norfolk Station Stallions (.467) and the Waverly Tigers (.400). 5. In the Tradition League, things are tight in the first 4 spots, as the Tylerton Roughnecks and the West County Outlaws are tied for 1st (.600), with the Shelby Whippets in 2nd place (.567, 1 GB), and then the Lesterville Legends (.533, 2 GB). The Coldwater Cardinals are 6 GB (.400), and in last place are the Willard Flashes at 9 GB (.300). Right now, Tylerton and West County are locked in a close 5-game series (Tylerton 2, W. County 1). Here is what I am thinking are 2 of the best batters in the League: (*= Leads respective League **= Leads combined Leagues) Leroy "The Sandman" Stetler, 1B (Tylerton Roughnecks, Tradition League) - Batter of the Month - Player of the Week AB: 118, H:48*, 2B: 7, 3B:4**, HR: 8**, RBI: 25, R: 24, K: 11, Avg: .407 Charlie Rogan, SS (Lesterville Legends, Tradition League) - Player of the Week (2) AB: 101, H: 46, 2B: 8, 3B:2, HR: 4, RBI: 27**, R: 22, K: 5, Avg: .455** Steve Johnson, CF (Avalon Hill Knights, Heritage League) - Batter of the Month AB: 97, H: 29, 2B: 3, 3B: 0, HR: 6*, RBI: 18, R: 21, K: 20, Avg: .299 Now for one of my favorite Pitchers Willy Tobey, SP (Capital City Legacy, Heritage League) - Pitcher of the Month G: 7, GS: 7, CG: 7, W: 5, L: 2, ERA: 2.04, IP: 61.2, HA: 41, R: 17, ER: 14, BB: 11, K: 26, HR: 3, Avg: .187, 2 Shutouts Just a little something that I noticed...Jude Dunfee, the pitcher I mentioned earlier that pitched the only no hitter so far, now has 33 Hits Against, and the 7th worst ERA in the league, at 4.59 Strange.... Anyways, if I can figure out how to do a website with all this info, I think it would be easier....for me at least...then I won't feel like this poor smiley here: talk later Last edited by cpbeller; 10-05-2003 at 12:06 PM. |

hey dreamteams, i have been thinking about moving my pitcher rotation down from a 4-man rotation, to a 3-man rotation....have you tried this? with 100 game seasons, it seems that it would give the pitchers a bit more games, and a bit of a better chance to score 20+ wins.....
OR, will that tire out the pitchers too much? If i do this change, I would like to change it in my next season.... |

Hmmm...well....The HBL Championship Playoffs are set....The Eastmoor Warriors vs. the Shelby Whippets....
Eastmoor went 60-40, with Avalon Hill in 2nd place with a record of 57-43. Shelby went 56-44, with West County in 2nd with 54-46. An interesting note, Wheelersburg pitcher, Louis Jackson, pitched 15+ K's in two games this year (8/13/1945, 16K & 8/18/1945, 15K)).... Well...I am going to try to get a website started up for this league....we'll see how that goes....at any rate, I am looking forward to the Championship series...7 game series, I am actually thinking that Eastmoor will take it, but, Shelby does look good too... Shelby has 3 well-known pitchers (Hagerman, Fuster, and Blodgett). Fuster ended the season with 15 wins. Eastmoor also has pretty sound pitching (Jason Hodges & Victor Rounds). Rounds had the best record in the league at 17-6, with 25 games started, and an ERA of just 2.74 (216.2 IP). Rounds also had 4 Shutouts. Hodges had the top Quality Starts, at 22, 3 Shutouts, and ranked #2 in Strikeouts (178). Hodges also has the 2nd rated ERA at 2.51. With Batting, Brian Harness for Shelby hit .363, and had an OBP of .468. Harness also had 88.9 Runs Created, 128 Hits, and 10 HR, 55 RBI. Christopher Prime had 30 SB for Shelby. Eastmoor's batting, really wasn't as impressive...Wells had 64 RBI, 58 Runs, and 29 SB (Capital City's hartwell had 40). The best hitter for Eastmoor looks like Joseph Bailey, with a .285 avg, OBP of .387, Slg of .439, 63.2 Runs Created, 98 Hits (Eastmoor's Wells had 102). Bailey also had 55 runs. All of that with 344 AB.... So, in the HBL World Championship, it looks like it will be Eastmoor's Pitching vs. Shelby's Hitting.... |

Game 1 of the HBL World Series
Well...Game 1 is now in the books...and all i can say is...WOW....The game took place at Eastmoor's ballpark.
The starting pitcher for Eastmoor was Jason Hodges. The starting pitcher for Shelby was Agustin Fuster. And these two battled... Shelby's Christopher Prime nailed a 3-run Homer in the 2nd. Another run in the 2nd gave the Whippets a 4-0 lead. The Warriors answered with a run of their own. In the 6th, Eastmoor scored once again, bringing the score to 4-2. Then, in the 7th Peter Drucker blasted a home run, the score 4-3. Once again, in the 8th, another run brings the score to 4-4. Both teams score a run in the 10th. In the 11th, Shelby takes another run. going into the bottom of the 11th, Shelby has 6, Eastmoor has 5 runs. Pinch Hitter John Alers takes the plate for reliever Sean Melia, and he walks. Next up is Joseph Bailey, the key hitter for Eastmoor. Bailey slobberknockers the ball out of the park, giving the game to Eastmoor, final score: Eastmoor 7, Shelby 6. Shelby took 10 hits, and 1 error. Eastmoor cracked out 8 hits, and 1 error. Game time: 4:10 Player of the Game: Joseph Bailey I thought I had the "log" turned on, but it turned out I didn't Oh well, I have it turned on now....This is how the actual game went though...I actually was cheering for Eastmoor...and it really shocked me when Bailey hit that 2-run game winning homer...wow....that was cool... Just a question, are we still able to post the box scores on here? And if so, how do you do that? Game 2 will either be later tonite, or more likely tomorrow morning....man, this was a great game for the 1st ever HBL World Series.... Next game will have Robert "Danny'Boy" Daniels (for the Warriors) vs. Kyle Hagerman (for the Whippets). Shelby's Hagerman went 9-14, with a 5.41 ERA and a WHIP of 1.79. Eastmoors Daniels went 12-11, with an ERA of 3.05, and a WHIP of 1.14 and had 2 Shutouts...and struck out 176 batters. See ya at the game!! |

well...i have thought about it...thinking about either just keeping 100 game season schedule for a few years yet and raise it to 120-game season with the future expansion, or...just bump it up to 120 game seasons with the next season....
Just not decided yet.... Have you always had 100 game seasons? and are you going to always stay with that number? Eastmoor's pitcher, Victor Rounds scored a 17-6 win/loss record, out of 25 games started....that is 1/4 of his teams games...that is a good record I would think...especially since the next highest winning pitcher was Lee Panton (NS) at 25 GS, and a record of 16-8. In the Honor League, John Williams went 16-6, with 26 GS... The question I am asking then...is this (in your opinions, with running 100-game seasons) good numbers? How many 20+ game winning pitchers have you seen in the Metro League? |

HBL World Series, Game 2
Eastmoor 2, Shelby 0 Eastmoor's Pitcher, Victor Rounds, takes a 5-hit shutout, giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead in the Championship Series!! Joseph Bailey once again scores a 2-run homer, this time in the bottom of the 3rd, sending pitcher Rounds home. Speaking of Rounds, he hit twice (3B and a single) out of 3 AB. Shelby's pitcher, Cristobal Avalos, gave up 4 hits, 2 runs...but struck out 4. Victor Rounds gave up 5 hits, no runs, and he struck out 9. Another good game....Rounds comes out on top, which is what I thought would happen anyhow... The next 3 games will be at Shelby, so we will see if the Whippers can get things turned around at their home park.... God, with the 2 World Series games so far....I love this game.... |

Looks like you have good pitching numbers for a 100 game schedule. They're consistent with mine, especially in the first few seasons. I've found that 16-17 wins is about the norm for top pitching. Your mega-stars will pull out 17-18 victories at times. However, just witnessed the first 20 game winner in six seasons of play. Adam Hale finished 20-5. That's cool because he was generated by the game and not created by me. Then again, he's in a league that saw two expansion teams added two years ago.

that is cool....even in the post season, Victor Rounds struck out 9, and won his game....I think this guy is a great pitcher....even though, the scouts don't like him too much for some reason...they say he is a good pitcher, but will never be at the top of the line...hmmmm
He ended the season with a 17-6 record, best in the league this year....and just pitched a 5-hit shutout....me thinks the scouts may be wrong? |

Game 3 goes to Shelby, 7-5. Eastmoor's Daniels pitched an ugly game actually, well, compared to the last two Eastmoor pitchers. Shelby's Hagerman takes the win, with 9 IP, giving up 9 H, 5 R, and striking out 5. Daniels pitched 8 innings, gave up 9 hits, 7 R, 5 earned, walked 4 and struck ou 8.
Eastmoor also had 2 errors, Shelby had 1. Shelby took the 1st 3 runs in the 2nd, then a 4th run in the 3rd. Eastmoor had a big inning in the 6th, scoring 5 runs, but soon lost the lead by Shelby's 1 run in the bottom of the 6th. Shelby then gained 2 more runs in the 7th, in which Eastmoor never recovered, and the game went to Shelby. Shelby still trails 1-2 in the series.... The next game, again in Shelby, Shelby's Travis Blodgett will take on Eastmoor's Sylvester Collison. Blodgett's season gave him an 14-10, an ERA of 3.83, 156 K's, and a WHIP of 1.32. Collison went 11-9, a 4.02 ERA, 104 K's and a WHIP of 1.27. Sounds like it will be yet another great game...Game 4 coming up soon Last edited by cpbeller; 10-06-2003 at 08:48 PM. |
