This Dynasty thread...

...I'm reading now for the first time and I hadn't laughed as much or so hard at anything else that anyone else has posted on this board.

Absolutely freaking priceless!!!

I can't wait for the onset of free agency...or the first career-ending injury (although that seems pretty unlikely)...or anymore of the great reactions from the Gods from their misfortune.

DEITIES SWAPPED

March 1st, 3008 - Newspaper headlines and place of worship announcement flyers throughout the world are embiggened as Chicago and Seattle have swapped deities in a blockbuster 8-player trade. The biggest names in this trade are obviously those of the two deities. Buddhism icon and 3005 DCL MVP Siddhartha Guatama heads to Seattle while The Pygmy Powerhouse, Khonvoum, is shipped to Chicago.

"We felt that we needed a little more spark here in Chicago," began Chicago GM Steve Bartman XVI, "We love Guatama and his word is a beautiful one. However, Buddhists are very laid back...we felt we needed to get a little more aggressive. It was a hard decision to make, but, as a business, we felt it needed to be done. With Khonvoum, we've got a strong, clubhouse leader who's not afraid to light some fires to get the job done."

Chicago has finished last in their division all 4 years and their best finish was 3005's 77-85. 3005 was the year that Guatama won the Triple Crown for them, but rumors say that upper management has felt that he has not been as inspiring a leader as they had hoped.

Seattle is coming off of their best year, their first trip into the playoffs and their first year finishing over .500. Khonvoum played well in the playoffs, but Seattle management decided it was time to make a change.

"Khonvoum is a very special deity and a very special player," began Seattle GM Jay Buhner XI, "However, his decline in offensive and defensive performance over the past 3 years kind of raised a red flag for us. Guatama had a down year this year, but he had two very solid seasons before that and has been a league MVP. When Chicago called with this deal, I felt it was a move we had to make. While they felt he was a little too laid-back, we feel he will bring a steady, rock-like constant to our locker room."

Khonvoum was surrounded by reporters as he was exiting the Seattle clubhouse after cleaning out his locker. "It's a shock, that's for sure," began Khonvoum, "I mean...we made the playoffs for the first time, finished over .500 for the first time, we were starting to head in the right direction or so I thought. I tell you what, I wouldn't mess with the chemistry of a team which was on the upswing. But, I'm just an omnipotent deity who created the universe and all of its inhabitants, so what do I know? Actually, I'll tell you what I *do* know...so help me, every single time I play Seattle from now on, I am going to unleash the holiest hell-flames you have ever seen...they were wise trading me over to the CL, so I wouldn't meet them unless it was the World Series... But, on a lighter note, I would like to thank the people of Seattle for all of the hospitality and fear they have shown me, I will always hold a place for you in my heart."

"It is sad to leave a beautiful place that has adopted me as one of its own," stated Siddharta Guatama during an interview on a Chicago sports-talk radio station, "irregardless of creed, I was mostly greeted with warmth and good-will. But, life puts you on paths that you must walk and I relish the opportunity to play in Seattle. They're a rising team who made the playoffs last year and that will be a very nice change. I bear no ill will towards GM Bartman or the Chicago front office and I certainly bear no ill will towards Khonvoum. All I can do is go out and play this game to the best of my abilities and walk the path I am given."

It will be interesting to see how the deities react to a change of scenery and the adjustment of new teammates. Neither Seattle or Chicago made any significant free agent signings, so the improvement of their squads is pretty much riding on this trade. Time will tell if this was an even swap or if one team has just made their future significantly brighter while another just destined their squad to endless mockery.

Another relatively quiet Spring Training for our deities, with the exception of Bondje, who appears to have been slacking off during the offseason. We'll see how the lack of preparedness affects the Voodoo icon this season.

Spring Training Results

Viracocha showed good strike zone judgement!
Odin showed good strike zone judgement!
Bondje has lost some power...
Bondje plate discipline seems to have faded...
Bondje showed good strike zone judgement!
Zeus showed good strike zone judgement!
Jesus Christ showed good strike zone judgement!
uKqili showed good strike zone judgement!
Apsu showed good strike zone judgement!
Ra showed good strike zone judgement!

He he, fantastic dynasty, inspired idea. I especially like the little interviews and news report thingys. Personally I'm rootin' for Lao Tzu - go on, be the bat! Also I wonder how much of Jesus' fat contract he's gonna give away now he's loaded

Hoorah, my post count has reached a mighty double figures!

Welcome to the 5th season of the DCL! This year brings us the first ever trade of deities, so all eyes will be keenly focused on Chicago and Seattle, scrutinizing every game, every at-bat, every pitch trying to see both who got the better of the deal and how our deities would respond. Both have responded quite well thus far. Seattle stands at 16-11, tied for first in the UL West with the Enlil-led Cleveland squad. Chicago, as usual, is stuck in last place of the CL Southeast, however they are only one game below .500 at 13-14 and only 2 games out of first place as no one in the division has gotten off to a great start.

The league's hottest team right now is Memphis, which got off to a 10-1 start and finished the month off at 17-10 for the league's best record. Jesus Christ has been posting his usual numbers thus far, with the exception of his Batting Average, which, at .516, is .039 points higher than the .467 he posted last year. We'll see if Christ can keep up the pace or if he will wear the tread off of his sandals.

Following a lackluster Spring Training, Voodoo deity Bondje has struggled in the first month of the season, hitting only .374 with 11 HRs and 27 RBI to date. Bondje has never hit less than .469 in any season and his average of .374 is .105 lower than his average from last year. Time will tell if the Hartford deity can reverse his fortunes.

Monthly Highlights

4/4/3008 - Lewiston Catcher Altjira clubs three home runs in Lewiston's 10-3 win over Raleigh. On the day, Altjira was 3 for 4 with 3 HRs and 5 RBI.

4/5/3008 - New Chicago LF Khonvoum is playing inspired baseball following his trade from Seattle. On the week, The Pygmy Powerhouse hit .688 / 5 HR / 11 RBI with a 1.875 SLG to win the Player of the Week Award. In the UL, Altjira (.667 / 17 RBI / 7 Game HR Streak) wins the PotW.

4/11/3008 - Philadelphia RF Tekkeitsertok has a nice day as he goes 5 for 6 with 2 doubles, 3 HRs, 4 runs scored and 7 RBI. Philadelphia demolished New York, 20-5.

4/12/3008 - Memphis RF Jesus Christ (.520 / 15 RBI) and Raleigh 1B Ra (.500 / 5 HR / 13 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards.

4/12/3008 - Always looking to steal some 'pub' from his arch-rival Jesus Christ, Satan hits three solo longballs in Orlando's 5-0 blanking of Phoenix.

4/15/3008 - Norse Father God Odin goes 5 for 5 with a single, 2 doubles, 2 HRs, 3 RBI and 4 runs scored in Gadsden's 12-11 win over New Orleans.

4/18/3008 - While facing Zulu deity uKqili in the 1st inning, one of Oklahoma City's ace starting pitcher Howard Henricks' back muscles tears, ending the 5-star, 26 year-old's promising career. It's a huge blow for Oklahoma City as Henricks is coming off of a 14-7 / 3.51 ERA year and seemed to be one of the best young pitchers in the league. "I had nothing to do with it," uKqili was quoted as saying after the game.

4/19/3008 - Orlando CF Satan (.478 / 6 HR / 9 RBI) and Little Rock LF Zeus (.577 / 4 HR / 13 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards.

4/26/3008 - Inuit deity Tekkeitsertok (.636 / 5 HR / 11 RBI / 1.409 SLG) wins the CL Player of the Week Award. For the United League, newly acquired Seattle RF Siddhartha Guatama zens his way to the Player of the Week Award with a .571 average and 12 RBI in 21 ABs.

4/28/3008 - Egyptian Sun God Ra hits the 57th cycle in league history, going 4 for 4 from the plate with 3 RBI and 2 Runs Scored. It wasn't enough however, as Raleigh falls to Cleveland 5-4.

5/1/3008 - Chicago LF Khonvoum (.473 / 35 RBI / .559 OBP) and Lewiston Catcher Altjira (.505 / 50 RBI / .571 OBP) win Batter of the Month Awards.

Who has been the best "non-deity" in the leagues? I know it isn't the focus, but just curious.

Hey Seth and/or Liz, in the words of Aristotle, focus "schmocus". I'll answer any questions anyone has.

There are 3 mortal hitters who seem to be in a lead pack with regards to the other humans in the league.

3.) 28 year-old New York RF, Maurice Tuck (79/100/63) - Tuck has yet to make an All-Star team, but with the number of deities patrolling the outfield in the CL, that's understandable. Tuck is a switch-hitter and bats clean-up for New York behind Catcher Awonawilona. Through 650+ games, Tuck has hit .338 and 202 HRs with 653 RBI. He has very little range in RF and is a defensive liability, but his offensive production is far too great to even consider not playing him.

2.) 28 year-old El Paso 1B, William "Peppers" Trask (85/100/59) - Trask is a two-time All-Star who, in 650+ games, has career numbers of .329, 208 HRs and 698 RBI. Trask hits in the clean-up spot behind Celtic deity Anu and his RBIs have shown the advantage of hitting behind a deity who is almost always on base.

1.) 34 year-old Charlotte 1B, Chadwick Isabel (84/94/100) - Isabel has made the All-Star game every season since the onset of the DCL. Through 649 games, Isabel has hit .340 with 224 HRs and 647 RBI. Isabel is slow as molasses but can handle the glove pretty well at first base. Isabel has also received a nice RBI bump from hitting in the 4 spot behind Charlotte deity Abraham.

Most Overpaid: 38 year-old Orlando LF Israel Wick (41/83/67). Wick had a nice 3004, hitting .279 / 49 HR / 157 RBI with Philadelphia and was inked to an enormous 5-year $107M contract ($21.45M/per) by El Paso following the 3004 season. El Paso paid a very high price to get Wick to town, especially considering the slugger had just celebrated his 35th birthday. Wick had a decent 3005 for his new team (.255 / 43 HR / 115 RBI), but then he not only hit the wall, he backed up and rammed it again as Wick posted a .227 / 19 HR / 84 RBI season in 3006. In July of 3007, he was traded to an Orlando team which, we can only assume, thought he would have a resurgence in new surroundings. In 3007, the aging LF hit .244 / 25 HRs / 79 RBI. Respectable numbers, but nowhere near the salary he makes. So far, through 26 games of 3008, Wick has been pushed down into the #8 spot and is hitting .157 with 1 HR and 6 RBI. Orlando has been desperately trying to ship Wick to other teams, but there have been absolutely no takers.

Thanks for the rundown on the best "mortals" in the game. Thier numbers aren't too shabby, if you aren't comparing them to God(s).

When I'm here it's just Seth70, btw.

Khonvoum is hitting well in the Windy City, however Chicago is still renting out their dank studio apartment in the CL Southeast cellar with a record of 21-35. In Seattle, Siddhartha Guatama has, in the early going, returned to his old form and is hitting the ball very well. Seattle has sprinted out of the gate and their 33-23 start has them sitting 5 games ahead of Cleveland in the UL West.

Bondje may have had a lackluster spring and a woeful April, but he absolutely ripped the cover off the ball in May, hitting .551 with 20 HRs and 54 RBI. His OPS of 1.996 for the month isn't too shabby either.

Monthly Highlights

5/1/3008 - Inuit deity Tekkeitsertok starts the month of right by crushing 3 HRs in Philadelphia's 18-4 spanking of hapless Chicago. On the day, Tekkeitsertok was 3 for 3 with 3 HRs, 3 runs scored and an impressive 8 RBI.

5/3/3008 - Voodoo deity Bondje (.619 / 16 RBI) and Mayan God Hunab Ku (.550 / 5 HR / 9 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards.

5/8/3008 - Aboriginal deity Altjira hits the 58th cycle in league history as Lewiston obliterates El Paso, 17-1. Altjira finished the game 4 for 5 with 4 runs scored, 4 RBI and a walk. Lewiston outhit El Paso 23-6.

5/10/3008 - Same S***, Different Week as Bondje (.593 / 6 HR / 12 RBI) and Hunab Ku (.737 / 6 HR / 11 RBI / 2.000 SLG) win another set of Player of the Week Awards.

5/10/3008 - Same S***, Different Day as Altjira hits the 59th cycle in league history against the same El Paso team he cycled only two days earlier. This game wasn't nearly as lopsided as Lewiston wins 6-5, but it certainly rips a huge chunk out of El Paso's pride. Altjira goes 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI, a walk and a stolen base.

5/17/3008 - Christianity namesake Jesus Christ (.750 / 10 RBI / 1.500 SLG) and Norse Father God Odin (.682 / 6 HR / 13 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards, much to Altjira's chagrin.

"I hit two...count 'em, TWO ****ing cycles in 3 days!" a visibly upset Altjira was quoted as saying, "I mean, pardon my French but **** that **** and **** anything that ****ing even ****ing remotely ****ing looks like that ****ing ****! They can all just ****ing die. Oh, no, *I'm* not the player of the week, I only hit TWO ****ING CYCLES!!! **** that, dude..."

5/22/3008 - Stockton 3B Hunab Ku hits three solo HRs in Stockton's 5-2 win over Cleveland.

5/24/3008 - Atlanta catcher Viracocha (.619 / 5 HR / 13 RBI) and Celtic deity Anu (.588 / 9 RBI / .682 OBP) win Player of the Week Awards.

5/27/3008 - Raleigh 1B Ra carries his teammates to a 5-4 victory over New Orleans as he goes 4 for 4 with 3 HRs, 3 runs scored and 4 RBI.

5/28/3008 - Mayan God Hunab Ku was a one-deity wrecking crew against Seattle, finishing the day 4 for 4 with 4 HRs, 5 runs scored, 6 RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Lao-tzu was the last player to hit 4 HRs in a game, accomplishing the feat on 7/6/3006.

5/29/3008 - The 60th cycle in league history is collected by reigning World Series MVP Abraham in Philadelphia. Abraham scored twice and drove in 2 runs on the day, but Philly pulls out the win 8-7 despite being outhit 16-12.

5/29/3008 - Zulu deity uKqili may be having a quiet season, but his performance in Norfolk's game against Hartford came through loud and clear. uKqili was a deity possessed on the day as he goes 4 for 5 with a double, 3 HRs, 5 runs scored and 10 RBI. Norfolk bitch-slapped Hartford, 18-3.

5/31/3008 - Voodoo deity Bondje (.679 / 7 HR / 18 RBI / 1.857 SLG) and Mayan God Hunab Ku (.593 / 8 HR / 15 RBI / 1.593 SLG) win more Player of the Week Awards.

6/1/3008 - No surprises here, Bondje (.551 / 20 HR / 54 RBI / 1.383 SLG) and Hunab Ku (.573 / 24 HR / 44 RBI / 1.510 SLG) easily win Batter of the Month Awards.

As we reach the All-Star Break, Enlil and Jupiter will be sitting home again. Jupiter is hitting a deity-scant .377 and is coming off a year in which he only hit .392, but Enlil, who has never been invited to an All-Star Game, is a different story. Enlil is hitting .462 with 36 HRs and 95 RBI, but that is not good enough to oust Guru Nahak (.465 / 51 HRs / 99 RBI) or Altjira (.463 / 46 HRs / 106 RBI) from the squad. Enlil may be pushing for a trade to the CL soon as his numbers surpass both of the CL's All-Star Catchers.

In the Continental League, Jesus Christ has still been having a wonderful year as he leads the CL in Average, OPS, HRs, RBI and Stolen Bases. His Memphis squad relinquished the best record in the league following a 7 game losing streak, but, at 49-32, they have a 9 game lead on reigning champs Charlotte in the CL East. Hartford now possesses the best record in baseball with their 52-29 first half.

No one deity has really distanced themselves from the competition in the UL, but Seattle (49-32) and Pittsburgh (48-33) seem to be the teams to beat.

At the bottom of the barrel, Little Rock (28-53) and Chicago (29-52) are in dire straits indeed.

Monthly Highlights

6/5/3008 - Scientology icon A Thetan powers Houston to an 11-8 win over Phoenix as he goes 4 for 4 with 3 HRs, 4 runs scored and 5 RBI.

6/6/3008 - In the top of the 6th inning, Columbus SS Vishnu drives a pitch from Raleigh pitcher Michael Ison over the center field wall for his 400th career home run. Vishnu is the first deity to reach the 400 HR milestone. Vishnu hit his 401st career HR one inning later and Columbus defeats Raleigh in North Carolina, 10-6.

6/7/3008 - Embarrassment for the CL deities as mortal Orlando RF Joseph Collado (.500 / 5 HR / 16 RBI) wins their league's Player of the Week Award. "I pulled him aside and had a...'talk' with him," stated Satan, making finger quotation marks in the air.

In the United League, Norse Father God Odin (.600 / 11 RBI) wins the Player of the Week Award.

6/9/3008 - Norfolk 1B uKqili clubs three longballs in Norfolk's 14-9 win over visiting Memphis. uKqili finished 3 for 4 with 3 HRs, 4 runs scored and 4 RBI.

6/14/3008 - Phoenix 2B Confucius (.650 / 2 HR / 9 RBI) and Cleveland Catcher and perennial All-Star snub Enlil (.556 / 11 RBI / 1.333 SLG) win Player of the Week Awards.

6/15/3008 - Gadsden 2B Odin hits the 61st cycle in league history as Gadsden demolishes Cincinnati, 14-2. Odin went 4 for 6 with 3 runs scored and 5 RBI.

6/18/3008 - Memphis LF Jesus Christ goes 5 for 6 with two doubles, two triples and 3 RBI. Christ's 2nd triple came in the top of the 12th inning and drove in the winning run as Memphis edges Philadelphia, 5-4.

6/21/3008 - Atlanta catcher Viracocha (.632 / 5 HR / 12 RBI) and Lewiston catcher Altjira (.611 / 14 RBI / .696 OBP) win Player of the Week Awards.

6/26/3008 - Making a last-minute grab for some All-Star votes, Cleveland catcher Enlil hits the 62nd cycle in league history. On the day, Enlil went 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored, 3 RBI, a sac fly and a stolen base. Cleveland won the game in Stockton, 6-3.

6/28/3008 - Incan deity Viracocha (.588 / 5 HR / 7 RBI) and New Orleans catcher Guru Nahak (.579 / 7 HR / 12 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards.

6/29/3008 - Greek God Zeus goes 5 for 5 with 2 singles, 2 doubles and a HR in Little Rock's 9-7 victory in New Orleans. Zeus scored 2 runs, drove in 4 and stole 2 bases on the day.

7/1/3008 - Christianity icon Jesus Christ (.474 / 20 HR / 52 RBI) and Sikh icon Guru Nahak (.558 / 20 HR / 39 RBI) win Batter of the Month Awards.

Wow. Bondje the runaway leader in the POW category. He must be using his "skills" to persuade the voters to vote for him.

3008 DCL All-Star Game - July 1st, 3008

Last year, the United League managed to pull out their first All-Star victory after 3 straight losses to the Continental League. Did they start a new trend or only provide a slight bump in the road for the CL squad?

This year's Starting Lineups are as follows:

2.) 2B Confucius (.432 / 40 HR / 101 RBI)
3.) C Viracocha (.450 / 37 HR / 82 RBI)
4.) SS Jesus Christ (.516 / 48 HR / 125 RBI)
5.) LF A Thetan (.445 / 39 HR / 94 RBI)
6.) 3B uKqili (.421 / 40 HR / 96 RBI)
7.) RF Satan (.397 / 37 HR / 87 RBI)

After fouling off 10 straight pitches, Viracocha lined one into the right-center field gap for an RBI double. Jesus Christ took his first pitch for a strike as Viracocha stole third. Confucius hit one into the right-center field gap just past the outstretched glove of Mohammed for the RBI double. Viracocha grounded out to Vishnu at 1B for the third out.

CL 6 / UL 2

Bottom of the 4th - New CL pitcher Max Garcia entered the game and Guru Nahak welcomed him by driving a double off the right field wall. Vishnu lined a single which dropped right in front of Tekkeitsertok in CF. Tekkeitsertok fired the ball home, trying to nail Nahak at the plate, but the throw was late allowing Nahak to score and Vishnu to advance to 2B. Odin had a hitter's count at 3-0 and came through, crushing one deep over the left field wall to cut the lead to 6-5. The CL countered with a pitching change, bringing in mortal LHP Alberto Padilla. The CL brought in pitcher Tsuke Kenzan to try and stop the bleeding. Zeus hit a bloop single to left field. With the chance to put the game away, the CL let pitcher Moritarou Junichi bat and he struck out looking to end the threat.

CL 11 / UL 8

Bottom of the 9th - Anu attempted to bunt his way on, but was easily gunned down for the first out. Ra (0 for 4) grounded one weakly to 3B for what appeared to be the eventual second out, but uKqili bobbled the ball, allowing Ra to reach first safely. Greek Father God Zeus strode to the plate and drew the walk, loading the bases for Mohammed. Two outs, bases loaded, bottom of the 9th - every boy's dream. Mohammed took a cut at the first pitch he saw and squibbed it out into right-center field. The ball fell in for the single and Satan grabbed it and fired it home to try and nail Ryan Brawley, the winning run. Satan's throw was too late to nab Brawley, however, as Mohammed's 2-RBI single wins the game for the UL in the bottom of the 9th.

FINAL SCORE - CL 11 / UL 12

"I feel awful," stated Zulu God uKqili in his rich, velvety voice which could soothe the wildest of beasts, "I went to switch ball from glove to hand to throw but it evaded me. I cost the team this game...I will punish myself during the offseason by banishing myself to the fire caves of the underworld. As the unholy flames sear my flesh and blister my soul, I will think about what I have done."

"I feel fan-f***ing-tastic!" Exclaimed UL All-Star Odin in the opposite locker room, "That was a great comeback, wasn't it?! Man! Wooo! I thought we were completely boned...no offense to you humans, but when Brawley came up with two outs, I was all like: 'Well, time to pack up my stuff, skinbag here will probably ground out'. But, you know what, he came through and we came through and it was a beautiful ending. Winning the first one was nice, but this one feels fantastic as well! Being named MVP helps quite a bit, too!"

So, in a pretty boring game by deity All-Star standards, the UL manages to sneak back at the end and steal the pot of gold. Odin was 3 for 3 from the plate with a triple, 2 HRs, 3 runs scored and 4 RBI and was more than deserving of the All-Star MVP Award. The UL has now won 2 All-Star games in a row, following the 3 year sweep by the CL.
