July 1st, 3009
As we reach the All-Star Game, three of our deities will be sitting home. As usual, Cincinnati catcher Jupiter was not selected to represent the UL. However, Enlil was finally selected to the All-Star squad this year, ending his 5 year drought. Enlil was the only deity remaining who had not been voted on to an All-Star Team and was very overjoyed by his selection. "Finally! It's such a relief...I've been carrying this weight on my shoulders which just kept getting heavier and heavier every year..." said Enlil, sitting on a bench in front of his locker, "I'm just filled with joy right now. I don't have to hear anymore crap from any of the other deities about it...it's just good on a lot of levels." Many have written that while Enlil played very well the first half of the season, he wouldn't have made it to the team had Guru Nahak not been playing so poorly over that time. Nahak's average is currently at .405, which is 50 points below his career average. Also, his HR and RBI numbers are way down (32 and 72). Some may feel that Nahak let last season's World Series win get to his head and is now paying the price for his pride. In addition to Enlil's heartwarming story, a heartcolding story involves another of our deities. One of the league's premier deities was felled with a severe injury which will keep them out of the All-Star game and on the DL for 7 weeks. To rub salt in the wound, this stint on the DL will most likely keep the deity about 15 days short of service time to be eligible for free agency. Monthly Highlights 6/1/3009 - Islamic icon Mohammed goes 5 for 5 from the plate with 2 doubles, a triple and 2 HRs as Buffalo blanks Gadsden 8-0. Mohammed scored 3 runs and drove in 6 which was more than enough to win the game as Gadsden deity Odin had a scheduled day off as he was waiting for the cable guy at his house. The team could have used him as they managed only one hit. 6/3/3009 - Oklahoma City pitcher Mark Dray improves his record to 9-1 as he NO-HITS Phoenix. It was a day to forget for Phoenix deity Confucius, who was 0 for 3 on the day with an error and was also caught stealing as Oklahoma City rolls 6-0. 6/7/3009 - Oklahoma City SS Apsu (.458 / 6 HR / 14 RBI / 1.333 SLG) and Cleveland catcher Enlil (.609 / 13 RBI / 1.522 SLG) win Player of the Week Awards. 6/12/3009 - In the second inning of their game against Houston, Hartford's Bondje made a beautiful diving catch of a long fly ball with the bases loaded to end the inning. However, as teammates left the field high-fiving, they realized that Bondje was clutching his hand. Bondje was taken to a local hospital for X-Rays and was diagnosed with a broken hand that will keep him sidelined for about 7 weeks. It is a huge blow to a Hartford squad which lost 5-time All-Star first baseman Charles "The Fireball" Melton on May 9th for 8-9 weeks. Hartford has reeled from the loss of their two huge offensive weapons and by the end of June would fall to 36-45. Luckily that is only 5 games out of first place as Oklahoma City has struggled as well of late. Bondje was extremely dejected in a press conference held in Hartford. "I am greatly saddened by this injury," detailed the Voodoo deity, "With the loss of Charlie [Melton] already weighing our hearts, this is a heavy burden indeed. I don't know what else to say other than I will be back as soon as I can and I will be back with a venegeance." Bondje then left the podium, taking no questions from the assembled press. 6/13/3009 - Pittsburgh CF Ometeotl hits the 75th cycle in league history, going 5 for 5 from the plate with an extra double, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI in Pittsburgh's 9-4 win in Buffalo. 6/14/3009 - A bad week for CL deities sees mortal Vernon Shigeaki (.700 / 3 HR / 12 RBI) take home the Continental League's Player of the Week Award. Aztec God Ometeotl (.792 / 15 RBI / 7 Game HR Streak) wins the United League's Player of the Week Award. 6/17/3009 - Houston LF A Thetan hits the 76th cycle in league history with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored as Houston edges out Philadelphia 6-5. 6/17/3009 - Confucianism icon Confucius hits three HRs, scores 4 runs and drives in 5 as Phoenix beats Memphis 8-5. 6/21/3009 - Phoenix 2B Confucius (.565 / 19 RBI) and Sumerian God Enlil (.611 / 4 HR / 13 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards. 6/21/3009 - Norfolk deity uKqili carries his team to a 6-5 victory over Philadelphia with 3 HRs and 5 RBI. 6/28/3009 - Memphis LF Jesus Christ (.579 / 5 HR / 14 RBI / 1.579 SLG) and Hindu God Vishnu (.421 / 11 RBI / .560 OBP) win Player of the Week Awards. 7/1/3009 - Phoenix 2B Confucius (.500 / 16 HR / 42 RBI) and Columbus SS Vishnu (.484 / 14 HR / 34 RBI) win Batter of the Month Awards. Deity BA Leader: Hunab Ku .474 Deity HR Leader: Apsu 53 Deity RBI Leader: Confucius 112 Deity SB Leader: A Thetan 57 Deity Career HR Leaderboard 1.) Vishnu 497 2.) Odin 489 3.) Hunab Ku 483 4.) Jesus Christ 481 5.) Ometeotl 470 6.) Altjira 467 7.) Guru Nahak 466 8.) uKqili 465 9.) Ra 454 10.) Confucius 451 |

3009 DCL All-Star Game - July 1st, 3009
It's been two in a row for the UL deities who enter the game with a confident swagger and first-time All-Star Enlil in tow. The CL is looking to get back on track following their past two losses, but will also have to deal with the absence of Bondje from their line-up. This year's Starting Lineups are as follows: UL's Starting Line-Up 1.) RF Lao-tzu (.372 / 29 HR / 65 RBI) 2.) 2B Ra (.414 / 34 HR / 82 RBI) 3.) SS Hunab Ku (.474 / 37 HR / 82 RBI) 4.) 3B Odin (.434 / 42 HR / 89 RBI) 5.) 1B Vishnu (.421 / 39 HR / 85 RBI) 6.) C Ometeotl (.459 / 39 HR / 83 RBI) 7.) LF Zeus (.423 / 26 HR / 73 RBI) 8.) CF Mohammed (.396 / 26 HR / 70 RBI) 9.) P Sanford Stam (8-3 / 3.91) CL's Starting Line-Up 1.) RF Satan (.385 / 32 HR / 74 RBI) 2.) 2B Confucius (.448 / 52 HR / 112 RBI) 3.) C Viracocha (.435 / 38 HR / 91 RBI) 4.) SS Jesus Christ (.451 / 42 HR / 96 RBI) 5.) LF A Thetan (.470 / 27 HR / 79 RBI) 6.) 3B uKqili (.449 / 34 HR / 103 RBI) 7.) CF Tekkeitsertok (.397 / 30 HR / 94 RBI) 8.) 1B Khonvoum (.373 / 37 HR / 83 RBI) 9.) P James Erb (11-2 / 1.63) Top of the 1st - Taoism icon Lao-tzu came to the plate to start off the 6th DCL All-Star Game and popped one into shallow LF which A Thetan grabbed for the first out. Egyptian Sun God Ra was next and hit one high into the wind blowing in from right, but it just dropped over the wall for a solo HR. Mayan God Hunab Ku lined a base hit up the middle. Reigning UL MVP Odin was next to bat and he got a hold of one into the right-center field gap for a double, putting men on second and third with one out. Hindu deity Vishnu fouled off a number of pitches before grounding one just past a diving uKqili at third base for the single. Hunab Ku scored easily and the third base coach waved home Odin. A Thetan bare-handed the ball and fired it to Viracocha who tagged a sliding Odin for the out. Pittsburgh deity Ometeotl flied out to right-center to end the inning. UL 2 / CL 0 Bottom of the 1st - A little trickery from the Father of All Lies as Satan attempted to bunt his way on, but was easily thrown out by the pitcher. Phoenix 2B Confucius blistered one on the ground up the middle, but SS Hunab Ku made a great diving stop and fired to first for the second out. With two outs and nobody on, Viracocha was first pitch swinging and rifled one just inside the right field foul pole for the solo HR. Jesus Christ drew the walk on 4 pitches and stole second base on the next pitch. A Thetan worked the count full before grounding out weakly to the shortstop to end the inning. UL 2 / CL 1 Top of the 2nd - Zeus led off the inning by crushing a line drive which 2B Confucius jumped to grab, just barely snowconing the ball for the out. Islam deity Mohammed fouled a towering shot into the upper deck just outside of the left field line before driving one down into the right field corner for the triple. Mortal UL pitcher Sanford Stam struck out swinging on three straight pitches for the second out. Lao-tzu (0-1) came to the plate and blooped a single into left field, scoring Mohammed from third. Lao-tzu stole second on the next pitch and Ra (1-1 HR) got on top of the next pitch, chopping it to the pitcher who threw to first retiring Ra. UL 3 / CL 1 Bottom of the 2nd - Zulu God uKqili popped out to 1B Vishnu in foul territory for the first out. Philly RF Tekkeitsertok grounded one down the first base line. Vishnu dove and made a tremendous stop, flipping the ball to Stam for the out. The Pygmy Powerhouse Khonvoum was next to bat and he dribbled one to the pitcher who fired to first to end the inning. UL 3 / CL 1 Top of the 3rd - SS Hunab Ku (1-1) fouled off a number of pitches, including a couple moon shots which hooked foul, before grounding out weakly to the 2nd baseman. Norse Father God Odin (1-1 2B) was frozen by a wicked curveball, striking him out looking. Odin shattered the bat over his knee and shot out a bolt of energy which melted the gatorade bucket and, unfortunately, the bat boy who was getting a drink at the time. "I apologize to the family of the melted child," Odin would later say, "I have started a charity to help those people injured by angry deities. It is called the 'Odin McOdin House For The Vaporized' and we shall be helping out however we can." Hindu deity Vishnu (1-1 RBI) took a cut at the first pitch he saw and grounded out to first base. UL 3 / CL 1 Bottom of the 3rd - Mortal pitcher James Erb got a decent cut at a 2-1 fastball, but grounded it right at SS Hunab Ku for the first out. Satanism icon Satan (0-1) took a monster cut at a 3-0 fastball, but popped it up on the infield where 1B Vishnu easily gloved it for the second out. Second baseman Confucius (0-1) strode to the plate and drove one into the right-center field gap, but Islamic deity Mohammed was on his horse and made a diving catch to rob him of the sure double and end the inning. UL 3 / CL 1 Top of the 4th - The CL brought in pitcher Nathan Portillo to pitch and he induced Aztec God Ometeotl (0-1) to pop out to first base. Greek Father God Zeus (0-1) strode to the plate to Metallica's "Ride The Lightning" and singled just over Khonvoum's glove. Buffalo deity Mohammed (1-1 3B) came to the plate and fouled off a number of pitches before driving one high and deep to right field which dropped into the seats for the 2-run HR. Mortal pitcher Sanford Stam (0-1) was next to bat and struck out looking on three straight pitches. Lao-tzu (1-2 RBI) grounded out to the shortstop for the third out. UL 5 / CL 1 Bottom of the 4th - The UL brought in pitcher Miles Long and Atlanta catcher Viracocha (1-1 HR) welcomed him to the game by crushing a 2-1 curveball over the right-center field wall for the solo HR, his 2nd of the game. Memphis LF Jesus Christ (0-0 BB) came to the plate and ripped a single up the middle. The hit and run was on and A Thetan (0-1) grounded out to the second baseman, advancing Christ to second. Norfolk deity uKqili (0-1) drew the walk, putting deities on first and second. Philly deity Tekkeitsertok (0-1) grounded one to the second baseman and just barely legged his way out of the double play, leaving deities on the corners with two outs. Tekkeitsertok stole second base on the next pitch and The Pygmy Powerhouse Khonvoum (0-1) grounded another weak ball to the pitcher to end the inning. UL 5 / CL 2 Top of the 5th - Egyptian Sun God Ra (1-2 HR) doubled into the gap in right-center, just past a diving Satan. Stockton 3B Hunab Ku (1-2) bounced a ball around the right field corner for the RBI triple. Gadsden deity Odin (1-2 2B) popped out to the second baseman for the first out. Columbus deity Vishnu (1-2 RBI) rolled an RBI single up the middle, scoring HuKu from 3rd. Vishnu stole second base. Pittsburgh deity Ometeotl (0-2) rolled one at the shortstop and Vishnu "accidentally" kicked the ball out of the way. The umpires conferred and called Vishnu out for interference. "That is my normal running style," claimed the Hindu deity, "Every one thousand and thirty eighth step, I flail my left leg out to the side...for anyone to say I kicked it on purpose is ludicrous." With two outs and Ometeotl on first, Zeus (1-2) watched the first pitch sail past as Ometeotl stole second. Zeus fouled off a number of pitches, eventually drawing the walk. With deities on first and second, Mohammed (2-2 3B,HR) singled one just past a diving uKqili at 3rd for the RBI single. Mortal pitcher Miles Long was next to bat and popped-out to RF. UL 8 / CL 2 Bottom of the 5th - Charlotte deity Abraham pinch hit for the pitcher and bounced a triple into the right field corner. Satan (0-2) drew the walk and stole second on the next pitch. Confucius (0-2) dribbled one slowly down the third baseline but there was no throw giving him the infield RBI single. With deities on the corners and no outs, Viracocha (2-2 2HR) lined a ball down the right field line for the RBI double. Lao-tzu badly overthrew the cutoff man allowing Confucius to score and Viracocha to advance to third base. Had earplugs for children not been made mandatory by the league, several children would have burst into flames from the unholy torrent of profanity which shot from Lao-tzu's mouth following the error. The UL brought in pitcher Antonio Yaquet to face Jesus Christ (1-1 BB). Christ drove one into the gap in left-center, but Zeus made a beautiful diving catch to rob him of the hit. Viracocha had already rounded third base and tried desperately to get back to second in time, but Zeus threw the ball in for the double play. Scientology icon A Thetan (0-2) drove one down the left field line which just cleared the foul pole for the solo HR, cutting the lead to 2. uKqili (0-1 BB) got a hold of a 3-1 fastball and drove it to the warning track in left-center where it was gloved by Mohammed to end the inning. UL 8 / CL 6 Top of the 6th - New pitcher David Newman entered the game for the CL as the United League pinch-hit Altjira for Lao-tzu. Altjira crushed a couple of pitches just foul and eventually grounded out to third base. Sumerian God Enlil got his first All-Star at-bat as he pinch-hit for Ra. Enlil was excited and grounded the first pitch he saw right at the shortstop for the second out. Seattle deity Siddhartha Guatama pinch-hit for HuKu and drew the walk on 5 pitches. Odin gave way to Irish deity Anu who destroyed an 0-2 slider, sending it 441 feet down the left field line for the 2-run HR. Mortal Leon Vasquez came in to bat for Vishnu and he drove one high and deep to center field. Philly deity Tekkeitsertok scaled the wall and robbed Vasquez of the homerun. UL 10 / CL 6 Bottom of the 6th - Inuit deity Tekkeitsertok (0-2) drew the walk and stole second. The Pygmy Powerhouse (0-2) popped out to right-center field, an improvement over his two groundouts to the pitcher. New York catcher Awonawilona pinch hit for the pitcher and flew one deep down the left field line which was caught for the second out, but advanced Tekkeitsertok to third. Mortal Chadwick Isabel came on to hit for Satan and popped weakly out to right-center field to end the inning. UL 10 / CL 6 Top of the 7th - Facing new pitcher Trey Breece, Ometeotl (0-3) welcomed him to the game by demolishing his first pitch 451 feet over the center field wall. Zeus (1-2 BB) dropped a double down the right field line. Islamic icon Mohammed (3-3 3B,HR) tapped one to the first baseman for the first out, advancing Zeus to third. Mortal Tomas Salgado pinch hit for the pitcher and grounded out to the shortstop who was playing in to prevent the run. With two outs and a deity on third, Aboriginal deity Altjira (0-1) drew the walk. Cleveland catcher Enlil (0-1) came to the plate and watched the first pitch sail past for a strike as Altjira took off for second base. CL catcher Viracocha lasered a perfect throw down to second and Altjira was tagged out. UL 11 / CL 6 Bottom of the 7th - Following the 7th inning stretch, Thomas Danner came out to pitch for the UL. Mortal Charles Roberts pinch-hit for Confucius and flew weakly out to right-center field. Viracocha (3-3 2B, 2HR) squibbed a 2-2 slider to the pitcher who threw the ball in the dirt, allowing Viracocha to reach on the error. Memphis LF Jesus Christ (1-2 BB) came to the plate and watched Viracocha steal second base. On the next pitch, Christ ripped one down the left field line and into the corner for the RBI triple. Scientology icon A Thetan (1-3 HR) fouled off a bunch of pitches before rolling one slowly to the shortstop for the second out, but scoring Jesus Christ from third to cut the lead to 3. The UL brought in pitcher Raymond Mohan who got Zulu God uKqili (0-2 BB) in an 0-2 hole before uKqili blooped a single into shallow left-center field. Mortal Vernon Shigeaki pinch-hit for Tekkeitsertok and watched uKqili steal second base. The next pitch, Shigeaki bounced a routine ball to third base to end the inning. UL 11 / CL 8 Top of the 8th - First time All-Star Enlil (0-1) ripped one down the first base line, but Khonvoum made a great diving catch to rob him of extra bases. Buddhism deity Siddhartha Guatama (0-0 BB) drove one into the wind in right-center, but it had enough mustard to drop 10 feet behind the fence for the solo homerun. El Paso deity Anu (1-1 HR) rolled one to third base for the second out and mortal Leon Vasquez struck out swinging on 3 straight pitches for the third out. UL 12 / CL 8 Bottom of the 8th - Khonvoum (0-3) came to the plate with 6 outs left for the CL All-Star squad. After taking two pitches for strikes, Khonvoum took a cut at an 0-2 curveball and grounded out to the shortstop. The CL let pitcher Trey Breece bat and he responded by striking out on three pitches. Babylonian God Apsu came to the plate for the first time and grounded out to second base to end the inning. UL 12 / CL 8 Top of the 9th - CL pitcher Thomas Brubaker entered the game and walked Ometeotl (1-4 HR) on 4 straight pitches. Ometeotl stole second and Zeus (2-3 2B) tapped one back to the pitcher for the first out. Mohammed (3-4 3B,HR) popped a routine fly ball into CF for the second out. Mortal Eddy Ortiz pinch-hit for the pitcher and drew the walk. With runners on first and second and two outs, Altjira (0-1 BB) came to the plate to extend the UL's lead, but grounded an easy ball to the shortstop for the third out. UL 12 / CL 8 Bottom of the 9th - Facing new UL pitcher Steven Spino and with only 3 outs left to go, Mortal Lee Bewley came to the plate and struck out looking on three straight pitches. CL catcher Viracocha (3-4 2B,2 HR) strode confidently to the plate and got ahead in the count 2-0. Spino grooved a fastball to Viracocha who got it in his wheelhouse and clobbered it to dead center field for the solo HR, his third HR of the game. With the lead cut to 3, Memphis LF Jesus Christ (2-3 3B) fouled off a bunch of pitches before tagging a ball in between short and third base for the single. A Thetan (1-4 HR) came to the plate as 'She Blinded Me With Science' blared out of the PA speakers. Thetan took a monster cut at a 1-1 fastball and drove it high and deep to right-center field. UL CF Mohammed scaled the wall but the ball was about 6 inches over his glove for the 2-run HR, cutting the lead to just one run and driving the crowd into a frenzy. Zulu God uKqili (1-3 BB) walked calmly to the plate to face UL pitcher Steven Spino who looked quite frazzled. Spino fell behind 3-0 and telegraphed a fastball right down the heart of the plate which uKqili turned on. The ball sailed high and deep to center field, but got caught in the wind and dropped into Mohammed's glove on the warning track for the second out, deflating the crowd. Mortal Vernon Shigeaki was sweating as he took the plate and took a cut at the first pitch he saw, rolling it to third base for the final out of the game. FINAL SCORE: UL 12 / CL 11 The CL claws its way back into the game at the end, but the UL squad was there to step on its fingers and send it falling backwards. The UL counters the CL's 3 game All-Star win streak with a 3 game win streak of its own ensuring balance in the universe. In the losing effort, CL deity Viracocha was named All-Star MVP for his 4-5, 4 runs scored, 4 RBI, 2B, 3 HRs and a stolen base. The Incan God was happy to receive the award, but mildly depressed by the loss. "I am happy to receive the award," stated Viracocha, "but mildly depressed by the loss. I was seeing the ball real well out there tonight and got some good swings. Had we gotten anything out of the Pygmy Pu**y at first base, maybe we could have won this game..." "What the **** did he call me?!?" inquired the Pygmy Pu**y when told of Viracocha's derogatory comments. Khonvoum charged Viracocha, sending several innocent bystanders and banks of lockers flying. The two rolled around for a minute before Abraham, Tekkeitsertok and Jesus Christ were able to pull them apart. All press members were ordered out of the locker room as raised voices spilled profanity-laced tirades which shook plaster from the walls. In the winner's locker room, Sumerian God Enlil was asked about his first All-Star appearance, "Well, I'll be honest, I wasn't too happy with the O-fer [0-2], but it was nice being here and hanging out with all my fellow deities...it really is like a brotherhood, you know? Either way, now that I've gotten a taste for it, I definitely want to...[sounds of destruction]...what the hell is going on over in the CL locker room?" |

August 1st, 3009
The big story at the beginning of August is the resigning of a vast majority of the deities. 19 of the 26 deities were signed to 6-year extensions with their current teams, details listed below. The seven deities not resigned (as of yet): Seattle's RF Siddhartha Guatama, Little Rock's LF Zeus, Raleigh's 1B Ra, Orlando CF Satan, El Paso RF Anu, Lewiston C Altjira and Cincinnati C Jupiter. Even players who would not have become free agents at the end of the year due to extended DL time (Khonvoum and Bondje) were resigned out of acts of loyalty or, possibly, violent threats. It will be interesting to see if these 7 deities are signed to extensions or are cast off to sign elsewhere. Babylonian God and Oklahoma City SS Apsu received the biggest increase in salary ($10.385 Million to $15.999 Million) as he is, fortunately enough, in a good position to win the Triple Crown this year. Will any of our deities set the cruise control and auger down the intensity now that they have received extensions? Should be fun to watch. Monthly Highlights 7/4/3009 - Oklahoma City SS Apsu hits three HRs in Oklahoma City's 11-3 smacking of Memphis. Apsu finished 3 for 4 with 6 RBI. 7/4/3009 - Judaism icon Abraham hits the 77th cycle in league history, scoring two runs and driving in two more as Charlotte squeaks past Chicago, 5-3. 7/5/3009 - Token Human Player of the Week Awards go to Oklahoma City pitcher Mark Dray (2-0 / 3.65 / 14 Ks) and Gadsden pitcher Manuel Ortega (2-0 / 1.93 / 15 Ks). 7/5/3009 - In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Stockton pitcher Thomas Duke's first pitch to Hindu deity Vishnu is jacked down the left field line for a 353 foot solo HR - the 500th HR of Vishnu's career. Stockton ended up winning the game 8-7. The ball landed in the left field seats, causing a tremendous dogpile of fans who were hoping to nab the ball for profit's sake. After the dust cleared, 33 year-old steel-worker Kyle Nantz came up with the ball and was scuttled off by security before anyone tried to take it from him. When asked what he planned to do with the ball, Nantz replied, "Well, I always felt that it seemed a little bit petty for people to sell a ball that might be important to the player who hit it. I had a discussion with Mr. Vishnu following the game and I have agreed to sell it to him for a fair amount of money and some autographed memorabilia...plus, there's this totally hot chick which I want to nail down at [local bar] Jake's, so he's going to help me out with that, too." 7/6/3009 - Stockton 3B Hunab Ku hits 2 doubles, a triple and 2 solo HRs in Stockton's 14-9 win over Columbus. HuKu drove in 3 runs and scored 6. 7/8/3009 - Orlando CF Satan powers his team to victory in Houston by hitting three HRs with 4 RBI as Orlando slips past Houston 10-9. 7/9/3009 - Inuit deity Tekkeitsertok hits two singles, a double and 2 HRs, scoring 3 runs and driving in 6 in Philadelphia's 14-6 win in Charlotte. 7/9/3009 - Aztec God Ometeotl clubs three HRs and drives in 4 runs in Pittsburgh's 12-3 beating of Lewiston. 7/11/3009 - In what is shaping up to be a busy news month, Zulu God uKqili goes 4 for 5 with a single, 3 HRs, 4 runs scored and 4 RBI in Norfolk's 7-3 win in Atlanta. 7/12/3009 - Philadelphia deity Tekkeitsertok (.545 / 13 RBI / .655 OBP) wins the CL Player of the Week Award. In the United League, mortal Maurice Tuck (.565 / 3 HR / 11 RBI / 1.130 SLG) outperforms the deities and wins his league's PotW. 7/18/3009 - Houston LF A Thetan hits the 78th cycle in league history, scoring 3 runs and collecting 3 RBI as Houston beats up on Charlotte, 11-2. 7/19/3009 - Scientology icon A Thetan (.656 / 6 HR / 23 RBI) and Taosim icon Lao-tzu (.600 / 14 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards. 7/22/3009 - Atlanta catcher Viracocha hits the 79th cycle in league history, but Atlanta falls to Hartford, 13-7. On the day, Viracocha scored 4 runs and drove in 4 as well. 7/23/3009 - In the top of the 9th inning, facing New Orleans reliever Harry Garner, Odin hits a 367-foot HR over the left field wall for his 500th career HR. Gadsden fell to New Orleans, 9-6. In a stunning coincidence, Odin's 500th career HR was caught by none other than Kyle Nantz, the same man who caught Vishnu's 500th career HR. When interviewed after the game, Nantz said simply, "Listen...I *really* want to nail this chick." 7/23/3009 - In a game that lasted a marathon-like 17 innings and 7 and a half hours, Hindu deity Vishnu goes 7 for 7 from the plate, with two singles, two doubles, a triple and 2 HRs, scoring 5 runs and collecting 3 RBI. Vishnu also walked twice and stole a base as he falls one triple shy of collecting an extremely rare double-cycle, but does collect the 80th cycle in league history. Little Rock scored two runs in the top of the 17th to win the game 13-11. 7/25/3009 - Roman God Jupiter clubs three HRs in Cincinnati's 10-5 win over Seattle, collecting 5 RBI and scoring 3 runs. 7/26/3009 - On a mission since being belittled at the All-Star Game, Chicago LF Khonvoum (.619 / 7 RBI / 1.286 SLG) wins the CL Player of the Week Award. In the United League, Columbus SS Vishnu (.652 / 4 HR / 8 RBI / 1.478 SLG) takes home the PotW Award. 7/26/3009 - Cycles are being hit like they're going out of style. Three more deities reach the 500 career HR plateau as the league continues to have more cycles than an all-girls school. New Orleans looks primed and ready to become the first two-time DCL Champions as their 86-50 record is easily the tops in the league (79-57 Houston is next). New Orleans is in the top 7 in every single batting and pitching category and such consistency on both sides of the ball is a successful commodity. Also, catcher Guru Nahak, who has been performing below his averages for the year thus far, had a much more Nahakian August and appears to be heating up for the stretch run. With their fan interest maxed and $12 ticket prices, the cash is pouring in. Monthly Highlights 8/2/3009 - Babylonian God Apsu (.714 / 5 HR / 16 RBI) and Pittsburgh deity Ometeotl (.640 / 13 RBI / 1.640 SLG) win Player of the Week Awards. 8/4/3009 - Satan is playing like a dark lord possessed since not being offered a contract extention. In Orlando's 13-4 win over Oklahoma City, Satan clubs three HRs with 7 RBI on his way to having his best month of the season. 8/7/3009 - In the bottom of the 5th inning, Memphis LF Jesus Christ rifles a 2-1 curveball over the right-center field wall for a solo HR off of Oklahoma City pitcher Julian Ruelas for his 500th career HR, the third deity to reach the milestone. Memphis lost the game 7-5, but the hometown crowd was very pleased to bear witness to the event. Christ's 500th HR ball was caught by buxom 23 year-old Jenna Normand, a sales associate at a national clothing chain. "My boyfriend Kyle and I were in town and we decided to come out to a game. I couldn't believe it, but the ball just sailed right at me and I grabbed it! My hand really hurts, but I think it was worth it. It's such an amazing coincidence, because my boyfriend Kyle said he caught a couple home runs, too! I got to meet Jesus and he was really nice and told me that it seemed as though I had some sort of spell on me or something...I'm not sure what he was talking about, but either way, Kyle and I are going to go pick up some stewardesses for Kyle to have sex with." 8/7/3009 - New York catcher Awonawilona is having a sub-par year (.389 / 43 / 125), but he had a good day against Atlanta, going 5 for 6 with a single, 3 doubles, a HR, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI as New York topples Atlanta in 10, 10-9. 8/9/3009 - Oklahoma City SS Apsu (.800 / 6 RBI / .852 OBP) and Norse Father God Odin (.636 / 9 HR / 17 RBI / 1.864 SLG) win Player of the Week Awards. 8/13/3009 - Sikh deity Guru Nahak clubs three HRs with 4 RBI in New Orleans' 8-1 win in Greensboro. 8/13/3009 - Raleigh 1B Ra hits the 83rd cycle in league history with three runs scored and an RBI, but Raleigh falls in Cleveland, 7-5. 8/13/3009 - In the top of the 3rd inning in Buffalo, Stockton 3B Hunab Ku crushes a pitch from mortal Andres Rubino 434 feet to right field for a one-out solo HR, the 500th of his career, making him the 4th deity to reach the career milestone. Stockton won the game in Buffalo 11-5. Ku's 500th career HR ball bounced off a railing and careened back onto the field. 8/14/3009 - In the top of the 6th inning of their game against El Paso, Pittsburgh deity Ometeotl blasts a solo HR off of El Paso pitcher Adam Scala over the right field wall for his 500th career HR. Pittsburgh won the game 13-6. Ometeotl's 500th HR ball was caught by Aztec devotee Brian Oxtreopopeotl, a 21 year-old college student at Texas Tech University. Oxtreopopeotl graciously gave the ball back to Ometeotl, who healed the student of his chronic acne problem. "As a follower of the Aztec way," stated Oxtreopopeotl, "there was no other choice than to hand the ball over to the creator. My lord was considerate enough to clear my skin in return, so that alone should save me the hundreds of dollars a year I was spending on pillowcases." 8/16/3009 - Hartford deity Bondje (.500 / 8 HR / 11 RBI) and Sumerian God Enlil (.619 / 5 HR / 15 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards. 8/19/3009 - New Orleans catcher Guru Nahak hits the 84th cycle in league history, scoring 2 runs and driving in 3, as New Orleans beats Columbus 11-7. Nahak was the sole deity who had yet to hit for the cycle. 8/23/3009 - A slow week for the CL deities sees mortal Hartford 2B Anthony Sundquist (.455 / 3 HR / 11 RBI) win the Player of the Week Award. The UL winner was Islamic deity Mohammed who posted a .632 / 4 HR / 7 RBI / 1.474 SLG performance. It is only Mohammed's 3rd career PotW Award, last amongst the deities (Jupiter has collected 4 PotWs). 8/23/3009 - Cleveland catcher Enlil clubs 3 HRs, scores 4 runs and drives in 4 as Cleveland wins in Greensboro, 11-7. 8/25/3009 - Egyptian Sun God Ra collects the 85th cycle in league history with 4 runs scored and 7 RBI as Raleigh outslugs Columbus 15-12. 8/30/3009 - Judaism icon Abraham (.500 / 16 RBI) and Greek God Zeus (.538 / 10 RBI / .625 OBP) win Player of the Week Awards. 9/1/3009 - Charlotte 3B Abraham (.490 / 16 HR / 38 RBI) and Norse God Odin (.553 / 47 RBI / .641 OBP) win Batter of the Month. As the curtain closes on another regular season, Bablylonian God Apsu was gunning for the CL Triple Crown. He finished 1st in HRs (101) and RBI (230), but his .471 average couldn't catch A Thetan's .480 so, for the first time in DCL History, no Triple Crowns will be awarded this year. He should have the MVP locked up though, so that's a nice consolation prize. In the United League, the MVP voting will probably come down to Ometeotl (.463 / 91 / 196) or Odin (.469 / 88 / 203), who is gunning for his third MVP Award. New Orleans looks to be in prime position to repeat as DCL Champions, as they finish the season with a league best record of 105-57. The opening round playoff matchups are as follows: Oklahoma City (83-79) vs. Memphis (88-74) - Memphis has a squad which does not excel in any one area, but is solid across the board. Oklahoma City has a very potent offense and a pretty weak pitching staff. Gamblers feel this series could go the distance, with Oklahoma City's offense eventually winning the war. Phoenix (84-78) vs. Houston (93-69) - Phoenix has made it this far on heart alone, playing well over their abilities and somehow always managing to find some way to win games. Neither their offense or pitching staff is anything to get excited about. Houston, on the other hand, comes in with a spectacular pitching staff and a decent offense. This series will most likely see Phoenix swept back home to Arizona without much of a fuss. Seattle (83-79) vs. New Orleans (105-57) - Seattle has ridden their excellent pitching staff into the postseason in spite of their below-average offense. They run headlong into a New Orleans team which is in the top 5 in all pitching and offensive categories and looks nearly impossible to beat. Experts see this series ending badly for Seattle, as well as quickly. Pittsburgh (88-74) vs. Raleigh (90-72) - This series should be a battle. Both teams are fairly evenly matched, with Pittsburgh's offense slightly better than Raleigh's, but Raleigh's pitching staff is better than Pittsburgh's. This and the Memphis series are the two which could easily go the distance. Most feel that when the dust clears, Raleigh will be left standing, despite this being their first post-season experience. Monthly Highlights 9/6/3009 - A bad start to the month for our CL deities as Norfolk SS and puny human Roberto Plascencia (.667 / 1 HR / 3 RBI) wins their league's Player of the Week Award. Mayan God Hunab Ku (.526 / 3 HR / 5 RBI) wins the award for the UL. 9/8/3009 - Sumerian God Enlil goes 5 for 5 with a double, 4 HRs, 4 runs scored and 9 RBI as Cleveland doubles up on Columbus 18-9. 9/10/3009 - Pittsburgh deity Ometeotl hits three HRs with 6 RBI in Pittsburgh's 10-4 win in Gadsden. 9/11/3009 - Cleveland catcher Enlil is seeing the ball well as of late as he clubs 3 more HRs with 4 RBI in Cleveland's 11-10 win over Raleigh. 9/12/3009 - In the bottom of the 10th inning, New Orleans catcher Guru Nahak hits a long fly ball off of Stockton pitcher Barney Hicks that drops just over the wall into the right-field seats for his 500th career HR. His HR tied the game at 6-6, but Stockton went on to win 10-8 in 12 innings. Nahak's 500th career HR ball occurred on 'Communist Night' in New Orleans and dropped right into the assembled Communists in the right field bleachers. The ball will be sold and the proceeds split equally amongst all Communists in attendance that evening. 9/13/3009 - Babylonian God Apsu (.571 / 6 HR / 15 RBI) and Sumerian God Enlil (.571 / 9 HR / 16 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards. 9/16/3009 - Most likely auditioning for a job next season, unsigned Orlando CF Satan hits two singles, a double and two HRs with 3 runs scored and 6 RBI in Orlando's 19-2 rout of Philadelphia. 9/19/3009 - Norse God Odin singles, doubles twice and homers twice, collecting 4 runs scored and 5 RBI as Gadsden edges Stockton in a shootout, 16-14. 9/20/3009 - Voodoo God Bondje (.588 / 9 RBI / .682 OBP) and Celtic deity Anu (.526 / 6 HR / 12 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards. 9/20/3009 - In the top of the 9th inning, Zulu God uKqili clubs a 3-run HR just over the left field wall off of New York pitcher Nathan Portillo for his 500th career HR. That HR put Norfolk up for good, as they win the game 9-7. uKqili's 500th HR ball landed in the Norfolk bullpen where it was collected by Norfolk closer Raul Diaz and returned to uKqili. 9/20/3009 - In the bottom of the 1st inning against visiting Cincinnati, Lewiston catcher Altjira blasts a 440-foot HR off of the scoreboard in center field for his 500th career HR. Altjira would go on to hit #501 in the 6th inning as Lewiston beats Cincinnati 6-5. Altjira's 500th HR ball bounced off of the scoreboard and back into the playing field where Cincinnati CF John Scheffler grabbed it and threw it into Lewiston's dugout. Altjira has said that he will keep the ball for a month or so before donating it to his Aboriginal followers back in Australia. 9/22/3009 - Cincinnati catcher Jupiter is trying to impress some potential future suitors, as he clubs 3 HRs with 7 RBI in Cincinnati's 13-10 win in Gadsden. 9/23/3009 - Houston clinches the CL Northeast crown with a 4-1 win in Memphis. 9/23/3009 - Pittsburgh clinches the UL Northwest with a 8-4 win over Columbus. 9/24/3009 - Memphis clinches the CL East crown with a 6-2 win over Orlando. 9/25/3009 - Oklahoma City clinches the CL Southeast crown with a 9-8 win over Philadelphia. 9/27/3009 - New York catcher Awonawilona (.615 / 11 RBI / .655 OBP) and New Orleans catcher Guru Nahak (.565 / 5 HR / 19 RBI) win Player of the Week Awards. 9/28/3009 - New Orleans clinches the UL Southwest with a 6-4 win over Cincinnati. 9/29/3009 - Seattle clinches the UL West with a 5-2 win in Raleigh. 10/1/3009 - Hartford deity Bondje (.561 / 13 HR / 32 RBI / 1.244 SLG) and Sikhism icon Guru Nahak (.452 / 15 HR / 42 RBI / 1.267 SLG) win Batter of the Month Awards. 10/2/3009 - Chicago deity Khonvoum closes out the season in style, hitting 3 HRs with 6 RBI in Chicago's 8-3 win over Orlando. OPENING ROUND RESULTS Oklahoma City (Apsu) def. Memphis (Christ) 3-2 Phoenix (COnfucius) def. Houston (Thetan) 3-0 New Orleans (Nahak) def. Seattle (Guatama) 3-0 Raleigh (Ra) def. Pittsburgh (Ometeotl) 3-0 A couple surprises from the first round of the playoffs - the biggest shocker is Phoenix not only beating Houston, but sweeping them. Many gamblers lost their shirts on that series as the wilcard Phoenix team topples the CL's best record. In the Oklahoma City / Memphis series, Apsu had a tremendous series which ultimately carried his squad to the next round. The series was tied at 2-2 heading back to Memphis for Game 5, but Oklahoma City feasted upon the Memphis bullpen to win the game 12-3. Apsu dominated the final game in the series, going 5 for 5 with 2 doubles, 2 HRs, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI. The Phoenix / Houston series started off with a shocker as Phoenix demolishes Houston in Houston, 13-1. Houston ace Eric Griffith finished the season 17-7 with a 3.39 ERA, but gives up 8 runs in 4 innings as Phoenix rolls to an easy win in Game 1. Games 2 and 3 were much closer (5-2 and 4-3), but Phoenix stunned a heavily-favored Houston team with a slumping A Thetan and advances to the CLCS to face Oklahoma City. No surprises in the Seattle / New Orleans series as Siddhartha Guatama has a great post-season, but Seattle was no match for the reigning DCL Champions. Seattle managed to stay in all of the games and keep them close, but New Orleans was just too strong to be beaten. New Orleans further soldifies itself as the clear favorite to win the World Series. No one expected Raleigh to topple Pittsburgh in 3 games, but Raleigh showed a ton of heart, winning all 3 games by one run (4-3, 3-2 and 5-4). Neither Ra nor Ometeotl had a very good series, but Raleigh advances to face a very tough New Orleans team in the ULCS. CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES MATCHUPS Oklahoma City (Apsu) @ Phoenix (Confucius) - Oklahoma City is the exact opposite of a Houston team which Phoenix dispatched in the first round. Houston had a tremendous pitching staff with an average offense, Oklahoma City features a dominating offense and very poor pitching. Gamblers are wary given Phoenix's shocking win over Houston, but Oklahoma City is emerging as the favorite, expected to win in 5 or 6 games. Raleigh (Ra) @ New Orleans (Nahak) - Raleigh nosed out a sweep against Pittsburgh but now has to face a New Orleans team which is very good in every single aspect of the game. New Orleans is expected to take this series rather easily, with Raleigh maybe stealing a game. Deity Postseason Stats Apsu .667 / 3 HR / 9 RBI Jesus Christ .444 / 4 HR / 6 RBI Confucius .545 / 2 HR / 9 RBI A Thetan .273 / 0 HR / 1 RBI Siddhartha Guatama .583 / 2 HR / 4 RBI Guru Nahak .556 / 1 HR / 5 RBI Ometeotl .364 / 2 HR / 4 RBI Ra .273 / 3 HR / 4 RBI |

CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES RESULTS Phoenix (Confucius) def. Oklahoma City (Apsu) 4-3 New Orleans (Nahak) def. Raleigh (Ra) 4-1 Phoenix does it again, this time toppling Oklahoma City's powerful offense in 7 games. The series came down to the wire until Confucius' RBI double in the bottom of the 9th inning of Game 7 wins the series for Phoenix. Phoenix wins the series with scores of 4-3(12), 3-6, 4-5, 8-2, 7-6, 1-6 and 7-6. Phoenix will be heading to their second World Series appearance, losing the 3004 DCL Championship game to Mohammed's Buffalo team. Ra continued to struggle mightily at the plate in his first post-season experience as New Orleans continued to roll, dismantling the underdog Raleigh team in 5 games (9-1, 8-6, 7-3, 2-4 and 2-1). New Orleans is the heavy favorite to repeat as DCL Champions. DCL WORLD SERIES MATCHUP New Orleans (Nahak) @ Phoenix (Confucius) - Had Phoenix not beaten very tough Houston and Oklahoma City teams to get here, they would be much bigger underdogs than they are now. However, they have shown so much heart and desire that some gamblers are betting that Phoenix's Cinderella story will continue. However, most bettors are favoring New Orleans in this series as their abilites -- on paper -- seem to overshadow an apparently overmatched Phoenix squad. Deity Postseason Stats Confucius .424 / 3 HR / 12 RBI Apsu .479 / 5 HR / 17 RBI Guru Nahak .517 / 8 HR / 17 RBI Ra .276 / 4 HR / 6 RBI |

November 1st, 3009 - DCL WORLD SERIES
Game 1 - Confucius goes 3 for 4 with a HR and 4 RBI and Guru Nahak is held hitless (0-2, 2 BBs) as Phoenix takes Game 1 in Arizona, 9-6. Game 2 - New Orleans pitcher Whitney Weiss pitches a complete game, scattering 8 hits and 2 runs in the 9-2 win, upping his post-season record to 3-0. Confucius went 0-3 with a walk while Guru Nahak went 1 for 3 with 2 walks and a run scored. Game 3 - Phoenix continues to pitch around Nahak (0-1, 4 BBs) but mortal New Orleans CF Richard Swan hits a walk-off solo blast in the bottom of the 10th inning to give New Orleans a 2-1 series lead. Confucius went 2 for 4 with a triple, an RBI and a stolen base as Phoenix falls 4-3. Game 4 - Phoenix steals Game 4 in New Orleans, 7-4, to knot the series at 2 games a piece. Confucius was 1 for 4 with a walk and a double while Guru Nahak goes 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored as New Orleans has a fight on their hands. Game 5 - A 13 inning slugfest which sees 19 runs scored and 36 hits was a fantastic game. Tied at 7 heading into the 11th, Confucius rockets a 2-run HR over the center field wall to give Phoenix the 9-7 lead. In the bottom of the 11th, with the score still 9-7, Guru Nahak obliterates a pitch over the left-center field wall for a 2-run HR to tie the game. New Orleans loaded the bases following the Nahak HR, but incited an inning-ending double play to keep the game alive. With their bullpen absolutely depleted, Phoenix had no choice but to make 20-year old SS Nelson Pineda come out to pitch the bottom of the 12th. Pineda hadn't pitched since high school, but managed to escape the 12th with 2 hits and no runs. Pineda came out to pitch the 13th as well, but retired only one batter before allowing two singles and two walks to give New Orleans the 3-2 series lead with the 10-9 win. On the day, Confucius went 2 for 6 with a HR and 3 RBI while Guru Nahak went 4 for 6 with 2 doubles, a HR, 4 RBI, a walk, 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Game 6 - Back in Arizona, New Orleans pitcher Kevin Powell slams the door in Phoenix's face as he pitches a 5-hit shut-out to win the World Series for New Orleans, their second straight title. Guru Nahak went 2 for 4 with a HR and 3 RBI as Confucius is held to 1 for 4 with a single. The majority of the stands emptied soon after the last out, a weak fly ball to left field, but a few New Orleans and Sikh fans remained in the stands to cheer the repeat champs. Guru Nahak was named Post-Season MVP for the second straight year as he puts together a fantastic playoffs. "You know, I have to be honest with you," began Nahak in the New Orleans locker room, "This second one...doesn't feel as good as the first. I know everyone says that it feels just as good, but they're being dishonest, I think. The first time we won, it was like...AMAZING, you know? This one, it's like...pretty cool and all, but not as strong." With no free agents to speak of which may bolt town, New Orleans looks as though they may be hoisting this trophy at least a couple more times when all is said and done. In the Phoenix locker room, a dejected Confucius took only a few questions from reporters. "Well, first and foremost, you have to congratulate this New Orleans team. They have an excellent ballclub...I mean, this is the second straight year they won it all and that's a real accomplishment. We really seemed to have fate on our side as we worked our way through the season and the first two rounds of the playoffs and it would have been nice to win it all, but those are the breaks, I guess. It just really sucks getting here twice and not taking home the trophy...it's like baseball's version of blue balls I suppose." Heavily favored New Orleans becomes the first team to repeat as DCL Champions with their 6 game win over the Cinderella Phoenix team. New Orleans' front office has done a tremendous job assembling this team as they look to be a strong contender for at least the next two years. With seven deities hitting the free agent market however, one team may choose to stack up on deities to demolish the competition. Deity Postseason Stats Guru Nahak .490 / 10 HR / 26 RBI Confucius .397 / 5 HR / 20 RBI |

ZEUS SIGNS WITH LEWISTON
Lewiston (AP) - Look out, Lewiston, there's a new deity in town! After letting Free Agent Deity Altjira skip town, Lewiston brings in Greek Father God Zeus only 3 days into Free Agency to fill his shoes. Zeus' 7-year, $133 million dollar contract (just over $19M per season) represents a long-term investment in a solid outfielder. Zeus has a decent year last season following a poor 3008 campaign and has a lifetime average of .432 with 416 home runs. Zeus has hit two cycles, been named Player of the Week 9 times, Batter of the Month twice and has been awarded 3 Golden Gloves in his 6 year career. Zeus' best year was 3005, when he hit .466 with 87 HRs and 211 RBI. There have been whispers bandied about regarding the signing of Zeus, since his career numbers are much lower than those of the deity which was not resigned in Lewiston, Altjira. Many feel that this move was ordered from the owner of the team, Teodore Poskudopalis, a Greek billionaire who financed the team from its onset. "I am happy to be coming to beautiful town with such wonderful fans and an intelligent, Zeus-fearing owner," stated Zeus at a press conference announcing the signing, "I look forward to bringing many, many years of unbridled happiness and success to the fans here in Lewiston and to Greek followers the world over. I only have one command. Dare not to boo Zeus. All who boo Zeus will be swallowed in a fiery hell of pain the mere notion of which they could not conceive." |

THE DEVIL WENT DOWN TO...ARKANSAS?
Little Rock (AP) - Members of the Little Rock front office held a press conference Thursday to announce the signing of Free Agent centerfielder Satan to a 6 year, $124 million dollar contract. Satan joins a Little Rock team that has not only missed the playoffs the last three years, but finished below .500 as well and has watched their fan interest plummet as a result. "We feel that Satan will bring a whole new dynamic to this team," stated Little Rock GM Bill Clinton VIII, "We had Zeus here before and he started off well, but his defense and production started to slip a little bit. Satan is coming off an off year, yes, but we feel that he brings a fire and intensity to this team that is what we need to vault back into the upper echelon of the league." "The front office here in Little Rock has made a wise decision," decreed Satan, holding up his new #666 jersey, "For I shall begin my destruction of this world in Orlando for casting me out and Little Rock shall become the capital of my domain. My minions have already begun work on my dark tower from where I shall rule all and drink the blood of any who oppose my reign...[maniacal laughing]." Satan brings his .429 career average and 458 HRs to the United League to try and turn around an ailing Little Rock franchise. Satan has hit for the cycle 3 times, won 9 Player of the Week Awards, 1 Batter of the Month Award, an All-Star MVP Award (3006) and 3 Golden Gloves. His best year was 3005, when he hit .444 with 85 HRs and 184 RBI. |

CELTIC DEITY ANU RE-UPS WITH EL PASO
El Paso (AP) - At an enormous party thrown in McGarrahan's Irish Pub in downtown El Paso, officials of the El Paso baseball team announced that they had reached an agreement with Free Agent deity Anu on a 6 year, $102.7 million dollar contract. Anu rejoins an El Paso team which wasn't able to work out a contract during the season. "Hey, these are mates, ya know?" slurred a frighteningly innebriated Celtic deity, "We went back and forth a few times and all during the season and I was finally like, 'look, bollucks to this, man, this is affecting my concentration so let's worry about it after the season, right?' So, we sat down and threw some numbers around over a few pints and here we are! It's grand, is it not? Cheers!" Anu is coming off of a career-low .398 / 64 / 158 season, but holds a .445 career average as well as the Hitting Streak record of 62 straight games with at least one hit. Anu won the Triple Crown in 3006, with a .522 / 95 / 229 year, has hit for the cycle once, has been named Player of the Week 9 times and Batter of the Month twice. |

COLUMBUS' DAY!
Columbus (AP) - Columbus has thrown down the gauntlet in the DCL by becoming the first franchise to have two deities on the roster. With the signing of free agent catcher Jupiter to a 4-year, $85.1 million dollar contract, Columbus now has two deities residing in their infield. Columbus shortstop and Hindu deity Vishnu is a perennial MVP candidate and will now have the Roman Father God hitting in the clean-up spot right behind him. Jupiter was viewed as the least desirable of the free agent deities and many were surprised that he agreed to sign with a team in the United League, where he hasn't made the All-Star squad since 3005. Jupiter has failed to hit over .400 the last three years and has never hit 80 HRs in a season. But, with Vishnu hitting right in front of him, Jupiter will now have a much better opportunity to get some pitches to hit. "Jupiter has struggled the past three years, true," began Vishnu at the press conference introducing Jupiter to the media, "But he was in Cincinnati. Have you been to Cincinnati? I would struggle if I had to live there, too. We feel that here in Columbus, he will get the change of scenery he needs to get back on track and regain some of the confidence he has lost the past few years." "Vishnu has welcomed me with open arms," Jupiter stated, "a lot of people think that we're just prima donnas, you know, egomaniacs and all that, but that's not how it is with me and Vish. We're just going to go out there and enjoy the game and play it to the best of our abilities. Besides, we're the only team in the league with two deities. We're going to smoke everybody!" Jupiter has had an unimpressive career thus far when compared to his fellow deities and will need to have a dramatic turnaround to have earned such a pricey contract. Jupiter has hit two cycles in his career, been named Player of the Week four times and Batter of the Month once. He also won a Golden Glove in 3006. His best year was 3006 when he hit .448 with 77 HRs and 195 RBI. |

HOO-RA FOR CLEVELAND!
Cleveland (AP) - There must be something in the Ohio water as Cleveland becomes the second team to sign a second deity to their team, reaching an agreement with free agent first baseman Ra on an enormous 6-year, $174 million dollar contract. The Egyptian Sun God will hit clean-up behind incumbent deity Enlil on a team that won the World Series in 3005 and instantly vaults Cleveland to the top of the DCL Power Rankings. Cleveland has missed out on the playoffs since winning the title in 3005, but with two impressive deities in the line-up, they should return to the post-season with ease. "We will march this team through all opponents and will not stop until we reach the promised land," proclaimed Ra, "The Sumerian God and I will not stop until all who stand before us have been felled and the World Series trophy is in our hands." Ra becomes the highest paid player in DCL history as Cleveland's payroll skyrockets to the top of the list at $113 million. Cleveland is banking on increased revenue from playoffs and increased attendance and merchandising as they only pulled in just under $97 million dollars last year. If something should backfire in Cleveland, they may be in some serious trouble. Ra has hit 4 cycles, won the Player of the Week 9 times, Batter of the Month twice, 4 Golden Gloves and features a career average of .435 with 488 HRs and 1136 RBI. Ra's best year was 3006, when he hit .480 with 91 HRs and 199 RBI. |

SIDDHARTHA IN SEATTLE
Seattle (AP) - Seattle officials today announced that they had resigned free agent deity Siddhartha Guatama to a 4-year, $107 million dollar contract. Both sides tried to work out an agreement during the season, but talks broke down and both agreed to revisit the issue after the season. Seattle originally obtained Guatama in a block-buster trade prior to the 3008 season, sending deity Khonvoum to Chicago in exchange for the Buddhist RF. Guatama responded with a nice year, hitting .456 with 75 HRs and 188 RBIs and has led his team to the playoffs the past two years. Seattle may be gunning for the UL Wildcard spot for the next few years however as they share a spot in the UL West with Cleveland, who signed free agent deity Ra to team up with their resident deity Enlil. Guatama was unavailable for the press conference announcing his signing as he was on vacation, sitting on a mountain peak above the clouds in Tibet. "We're very happy to get Siddhartha back," stated Seattle coach Ken Phelps XII, "He's been a great influence on our team and a source of light both on and off the field. We would have liked to have worked out a contract during the season since it would have been cheaper, but we just couldn't seem to get everything ironed out. All's well that ends well, though!" Siddhartha Guatama won the Triple Crown in 3005 and has hit 3 cycles, been named Player of the Week 10 times, Batter of the Month 6 times and won a Golden Glove in 3008. |
