1901 AAA WORLD SERIES - GAME FIVE Monday, September 15, 1901 PITTSBURGH'S LEEVER BEATS YANKS' FORD AGAIN IN GAME FIVE NYY - 110 000 000 - 2 8 0 PIT -- 002 004 00X - 6 11 0 WP: Leever (2-0 2.16) LP: Ford (0-2 7.84) Rivera (6th) Foster (7th) HR: B. Ruth (5) Pittsburgh goes up 3 games-to-two in the best-of-nine AAA World Series. Sam Leever did a number on NY again...and Whitey Ford fizzled again. Pirates are victorious 6-2. Leever stopped the Yanks cold after allowing a run in each of the first two innings...he held New York to 8 hits in all, fanned 4 and issued no walks Game Recap: Babe Ruth (.391) continued with the hot bat by hammering his fifth homer in the Series...it was a first inning solo shot...in the second frame Red Rolfe (.625) drove in Joe Gordon (.227) with a base hit for run number two...Paul Waner (.286) and Honus Wagner (.364) had rbis in the third to knot the game at 2-2...the Pirates exploded for 4 runs in the sixth to seal the verdict...Ralph Kiner's (.263) sac fly broke the tie...then Leever belted a 2-run single and Jason Kendall (.182) finished the day's scoring with an rbi double...Wagner led the Bucs with a perfect day, 3 for 3...and Pie Traynor (.240) went 2 for 4. Game Six will be tomorrow at Forbes Field again. Third Game pitchers will be righthander Ray Kremer for the Pirates and lefty Ron Guidry for New York. Kremer breezed to a 7-2 victory over Guidry in their first meeting. Check League Reports here: http://aaa.allsimbaseball.com/ Last edited by Eugene Church; 11-07-2007 at 09:23 PM. |

1901 AAA WORLD SERIES - GAME SIX Tuesday, September 16, 1901 OUTHOMERED AND OUTHIT PIRATES STILL WIN GAME SIX OVER NY NYY - 100 002 020 - 5 13 2 PIT -- 004 100 11X- 7 10 1 WP: Kremer (2-0 2.81) Face (8th) Phillippe (8th) Save: Phillippe 1 (0-1 6.28) LP: Hoyt (0-1 5.63) Gossage (4th) Foster (5th) Rivera (7th) Chandler (8th) HR: NYY - J. DiMaggio 2 (2) Timely hitting paid off for Pittsburgh in the Game Six win. The Pirates now lead the World Series 4 games to 2 and need just one more win to wrap up the AAA title. The Bronx Bombers again outhomered the Bucs and also outhit them 13 to 10, but got no cigar. Arky Vaughan (.333) drove in 3 runs with a pair of hits...Roberto Clemente (.120) delivered a 2-run single...and pitchers Ray Kremer (.000) and Deacon Phillippe (.400) drove in one run each for the victors...NY's Joe DiMaggio (.300) went 3-5 and jolted 2 solo home runs...Earl Combs (333) also had 3 hits...and Joe Gordon (.269) and Bill Dickey (.280) were both 2-4. Ray Kremer struggled this time out, giving up 10 hits and 4 runs in 7 innings. Deacon Phillippe came to the rescue in the eighth after the Yanks cut the margin to 6-5 off Kremer and Roy Face. Phillippe got Joe DiMaggio to on a short fly to center with the bases loaded to end the threat. In the ninth he gave up a leadoff single to Babe Ruth, but got Lou Gehrig to hit into a double play and Joe Gordon on a flyout to right to nail down the victory. Game Recap: DiMaggio (.300) homered with no one on base to put NY up 1-0 in the top of the first...in the third Pittsburgh ravaged Hoyt for a 4-1 lead as Arky Vaughan (.333) and Roberto Clemente (.120) clouted 2-run singles...the Pirates took a 5-1 lead in the fourth when Ralph Kiner (.261) doubled and scored on Jason Kendall's (.231) single...the Yankees cut the margin to 5-3 in the sixth inning...DiMaggio hit another bases-empty blast to lead off...a two-base error by SS Vaughan on a Joe Gordon (.269) grounder and an rbi single by Bill Dickey netted another run...a Paul Waner (.280) triple and a Vaughan single put across a score and made it 6-3 in the seventh...in the NY eighth PH Bernie Williams (.333) infield single and Earl Combs' (.333) single narrowed it to 6-5...in the Pirate eighth doubles by Kendall (.231) and Phillippe (.400) put the final score at 7-5. Manager Casey Stengel decided to forego his "lefty" theory, since Whitey Ford and Ron Guidry had trouble against the Pirates, who don't seem to care which hand the pitchers throw with. They hit 'em all. He started righthander Waite Hoyt, one of NY's most reliable pitchers in the second half of the season. He only lasted 3 innings against the Bucs and caught the loss. Pittsburgh can take the AAA crown with one win in the last 3 games. New York has to win them all. In Game Seven it will be Lefty Gomez (1-0 1.20) for the Yanks and righthander Vic Willis for the Pirates. Gomez has been NY's most effective pitcher thus far by far, throwing well in both his starts. It will be Willis' first appearance in the Series. During the regular season he was 9-11 with a 3.23 ERA in 24 starts. Manager Danny Murtaugh says he is saving Deacon Phillippe and Sam Leever for the 8th and 9th games. He probably won't use them in relief. Stengel is leaning toward portsiders Ron Guidry and Whitey Ford in games eight and nine. Both have had disappointing postseason starts. 1901 AAA WORLD SERIES - GAME 7 Wednesday, September 17, 1901 BRONX BOMBERS LIVE UP TO THEIR NAME...STAY ALIVE NYY - 000 420 001 - 7 12 1 PIT -- 004 000 000 - 4 6 1 WP: Pennock (2-0 0.00) Gomez (SP) Pennock (3rd) LP: Adams (0-1 4.15) Willis (SP) Adams (4th) Day (7th) Tannehill (9th) HR: NYY - J. DiMaggio (3) Gordon (2) Jeter (1) B. Ruth (6) Longballs + Strong Long Relief = Victory for New York. But it looked dismal at first in the early going. It looked like Pittsburgh was well on their way to the AAA World Series title, when they jumped all over Lefty Gomez for 4 runs in the third inning. But the Bronx Bombers lived up to their name with 3 homers in the fourth to tie the score at 4-all. Babe Ruth then bombed a 2-run shot in the fifth to give NY new life in the Series. The Pirates still lead the Series 4 games to 3 and need only one more win to take the crown. Lefty Herb Pennock was outstanding in long relief. He held the Pirates scoreless for six innings, checking them on just 2 hits, fanning 3 and walking only one. DiMaggio and Combs delivered 3 hits apiece for the victors' 12-hit barrage with Ruth and Jeter chipping in 2 each. Ruth has ripped in 10 runs so far. Game Recap: Pittsburgh got 4 hits and 3 walks in the third to go in front 4-0...Honus Wagner (.300) drove in the first run with a single...Jason Kendall (.267) has a 2-run base hit and a bases-full walk to Bill Mazeroski (.250) got the last one...The Yanks retaliated in the fourth with Joe DiMaggio's (.343) solo blast, Ruth's (.375) double and Joe Gordon's (.267) 2-run clout and Derek Jeter's (.276) singleton to even the score at 4-4...in the very next inning DiMaggio singled and then scored on Ruth's 6th home run of the series...That made it 6-4 in favor of New York...in the ninth Red Rolfe (.400) singled to lead off the inning, was moved to second on a sacrifice by Pennock and scored on a single by Earl Combs (.371). The club will take a day off to travel back to New York and Yankee Stadium for Game 8. Pittsburgh's Danny Murtaugh has righthander Sam Leever rested and ready to go. Leever has won 2 games in the Series, 5-2 in Game 2 and 6-2 in Game 5. He has chalked up a splendid 2.16 ERA in his 2 starts. Lefty Ron Guidry will go to the mound for Stengel's Yankees and try to make up for the third game fiasco that he lost 7-2. Louisiana Lightning is 0-1 with a skyhigh 6.75 earned run average. If the Series should be extended to 9 games, the Pirates will have Deacon Phillippe on the hill with Ray Kremer and Roy Face ready in relief. New York hasn't made a final decision. Whitey Ford has been totally ineffective in 2 starts, so Stengel is giving serious consideration to righty Rube Foster, who has worked 7 innings in relief with a fine 2.57 ERA. In the bullpen he will have Herb Pennock and Mariano Rivera. Check League Reports here: http://aaa.allsimbaseball.com/ Last edited by Eugene Church; 04-01-2006 at 01:09 AM. |

1901 AAA WORLD SERIES - GAME 8 Friday, September 17, 1901 AAA SERIES TIED...BUCS STOP WITH NY'S GUIDRY ON HILL PIT -- 000 010 000 - 1 7 2 NYY- 101 300 00X - 5 8 0 WP: Guidry (1-1 3.71) LP: Leever (2-1 3.48) Tannehill (5th) Face (7th) HR: NYY - Rolfe (1) In a must-win game NY's Ron Guidry solidly shutdown the Pirates to even the AAA World Series at 4 games apiece and set the stage for the decisive ninth game tomorrow at Yankee Stadium. Backed up by 5 DP's Guidry sailed through the Pittsburgh lineup to make amends for a poor outing in his only previous start. He stopped the Bucs on 7 hits, struckout only 2 and walked 4, but brought home the crucial win. Another hero was 3B Red Rolfe (.389). He cracked a 3-run clout in the fourth inning to pretty much clinch the game for NY. Rolfe only started 44 games in the regular season. He was a last minute lineup change by Manager Casey Stengel to start the World Series and has delivered 7 rbis and 4 runs scored. Joe Gordon (.265) and Babe Ruth (.389) drove in the first two runs. Ruth and Joe DiMaggio (.368) had 2 hits each to pace the Bombers. DiMaggio scored twice. Pittsburgh's 2-game series winner, Sam Leever, was pounded for all 5 NY scores today and lasted only 4 innings. It is reported that RHP Deacon Phillippe and LHP Whitey Ford will probably be opposing moundsmen in Game 9. Pittsburgh's Murtaugh said he will have Ray Kremer and Roy Face in reserve in the bullpen. The Yanks' Stengel said he still is trying to choose between Ford and RHP Rube Foster for the Series finale. He will rely on Foster, Ford, Gomez and Rivera in relief roles. Phillippe is 1-1 in the Series with an astronomical 6.28 ERA. Ford is even worse: 7.84 and 0-1. Both managers are hoping they will regain regular season form, when Deacon was 16-9 and 2.82 and Whitey was 14-10 and 3.44. Foster has been effective out of the Yankee bullpen with a 2.57 ERA in 7 innings of relief. I need some help from you Monday morning quarterbacks.
Who should start the deciding game of the AAA World Series? Ford or Foster? And why? I am leaning to Rube because he has had a good series and also a fine 9-6 regular season with a 3.02 earned run average. But look what Guidry did in Game 8 after being a bust in his only other start. Maybe Stengel is right about using lefties against Pittsburgh. Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-20-2006 at 03:48 PM. |

1901 AAA WORLD SERIES - GAME Friday, September 19, 1901 NY'S ROLFE HOMERS IN THE 11TH...YANKS WIN AAA WORLD SERIES PIT - 000 000 101 00 - 2 10 1 (11 innings) NYY- 200 000 000 01 - 3 9 1 WP: Rivera (1-0 3.86) Ford (SP) Foster (8th) Rivera (11th) LP: Tannehill (0-1 4.50) Phillippe (SP) Kremer (6th) Face (10th) Tannehill (10th) HR: NYY - B. Ruth (7) Rolfe (2) "It ain't over till it's over!"...Well, it's over now! The New York Yankees of the American League proved to be the class of the the Alltime Allstar Association with a stirring comeback to take the inaugural World Series in the thrilling Game 9 finale. They were down 4 games to 2, but came back to take 3 in a row to capture the crown. There were many heroes today...Red Rolfe, Babe Ruth, Whitey Ford, Rube Foster and Mariano Rivera. Rolfe was the biggest as he slammed a 2-out solo home run off Jess Tannehill to win the Series in the bottom of the eleventh frame. Ruth started the scoring with a 2-run shot in the first, his seventh of the Series. Ford, a disappointment in an earlier start, greatly redeemed himself with 7 masterful innings, holding Pittsburgh to 6 hits and just one run. He left for a pinchhitter. Foster came in and struck out 4 in 3 innings, but did give up the tying run in the ninth. However, he stopped the Bucs in the eighth and tenth. Rivera got the win with a scoreless eleventh, but did get into jeopardy with a runner reaching second with just one out. A Willie Stargell strikeout and Jason Kendall groundout ended the threat. Game Recap: In the opening half of the first Earl Combs' (.318) singled and Ruth's (.400) home run clout sent the Bombers in front 2-0...in the Pittsburgh seventh they narrowed the lead to 2-1...Jason Kendall (.282) singled with two outs and moved to second when RF Combs mishandled the ball, then scored on Arky Vaughan's (.250) base hit...the Pirates knotted the score at 2-2 when Honus Wagner (.308) singled off Rube Foster with one away and came around on Willie Stargell's pinchhit double...it remained that way until two outs in the last of the eleventh, when Red Rolfe (.348) was the man of the moment and ripped a World Series-winning home run off Jess Tannehill. Pittsburgh battled tooth-and-nail and were very worthy opponents, but Yankee home run power proved to be too much to overcome. 2 homers today and 15 overall dealt the valiant Pirates a death knell. They only hit 2 home runs in the 9-game series with Ralph Kiner delivering both of them. New York won despite Lou Gehrig's anemic .225 performance. The Yanks' cleanup hitter did not bat in a single run in the Series. He led the AAA with 115 rbis during the regular season. The AAA World Series Most Valuable Player Award was given to Babe Ruth, who sizzled with the bat, hitting .400, swatting a remarkable 7 home runs and driving in 13 runs. Third baseman, Red Rolfe, batted .348 with 2 homers and 8 rbis to finish second in the voting. His homers came in the crucial last two games. Last week ABC News did a story about a young 12-13 year old that dearly eats, sleeps and lives for baseball. He is an all-star first baseman in his youth league. The Yanks are his favorite team and he has saved and saved to get a $1000 to take trip to see his them. Well, he got the news that due to financial shortfall, his middle school was going to have to close. He began to try to raise money to keep it open. He donated his $1000 and gave up his dream trip. People heard about it and guess what? They raised $400,000 and saved the school. In comes Old George and he gives the kid an all-expense paid trip to Yankee Stadium. So Old George may have a heart...or he just wanted millions and millions of dollars of free press. I am going to rid myself of my cynicism and bias toward George and think he did it out of the kindness of his heart. I will send a note of thanks to Old George, too. That was a very nice gesture. That story made my day. Sorry, Leo...nice guys don't finish last. Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-22-2006 at 03:37 PM. |

It is hard to beat a team, when they are better at almost every position. To take them to nine games is pretty darn good. I don't think they choked in the last 3 games, they just overachieved in the four victories.

I just found out that OOTPB2006 will not let you inport the Almanacs from OOTP6.
It looks like I will have to start the league again in the new version. I may just use OOTP6 and sim the seasons. I don't enjoy it as much, but we could see how everything turns out. I can sim a season in less than 10 minutes, but it would take me about a week to play a season. I would go in each month and adjust lineups and pitching rotations based on performance. Any interest in this? I would cover each season in this Dynasty thread. |

Not that this is any help, but I would love for you to continue this one, whether it be game by game or month by month.
You could always import what you have into the new version and go from there.

As I understand it, Markus said that we will not be able to import some data into the new version. The Almanac is one such item. I would like to import all the info from the first season. Markus said this is not possible. I will continue AAA using OOTP6 and sim month by month. Dynasty reports would cover each month in a general way. If it possible to upload more than 10 days of boxscores and game logs, then I might update the Dynasty reports every 15-30 days. Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-23-2006 at 06:11 PM. |

I spent the day researching the Japanese greats. I came up with arguably their 16 best players. I found some decent stats and evaluations of the players.
They will be available to be drafted along with about 16 Negro League stars. Each of the 16 AAA teams will be allowed to pick 2 players in this special draft. |
