As the years go by, I'm sure many of the "snubbed" on these rosters will be showing up. If players do not perform, I will pick other franchise stars, but only after they have been given a chance to play enough to justify it. If a player is always a backup to a superstar and performs well on a limited basis, I don't intend to replace him quickly. Down the road I intend to add Negro and Japanese stars as well as great career minor leaguers like Buzz Arlett, Ike Boone, Joe Hauser and Smead Jolley. Expansion team stars will also be added, but only after I exhaust all of the franchise's stars. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-04-2004 at 12:05 AM. |

Much appreciation for your invaluable help. I have decided to go ahead with a website. Do you think there is enough interest in this league to do it? Do you still want to design it? Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-04-2004 at 01:30 PM. |

In American League action, the Yanks outlasted Walter Johnson (2-1) and the Washington Nationals 5 to 4 in 11 innings in a game decided by Graig Nettles' two out double that scored Joe "Flash" Gordon with the go ahead run. Mariano Rivera (1-0) held the Nats scoreless for 4+ innings to gain the victory. He gave up only 1 hit in relief of starter Herb Pennock. Johnson settled down after being jolted in the 4 run third and pretty much shutdown the Bronx Bombers, yielding 8 hits, struck out 8 and walked 2. Johnson even went 3 for 4 in the game in a one man effort to beat the talented New Yorkers. Babe Ruth led the winners with 3 hits. Cleveland stayed a half game back at Municipal Stadium by coming back to slip past the White Sox. Ed Walsh was rolling along with a 6-0 lead in the 6th inning and then lightning flashed from the Indians bats as they exploded for 6 runs to tie it up, aided by Earl Averill's home run and a double by Jim Thome. In the seventh, losing pitcher Wilbur Wood (0-1) walked Thome with the bases loaded for the eventual game winner. Doug Jones (1-0) blanked Chicago over the last 3 innings, coming on in relief of starter Bob Lemon. Nap Lajoie topped the Tribe with 4 hits. Thome drove in 3 runs. The Pale Hose outhit Cleveland 14-11 with Carlton Fisk and Eddie Collins having 3 hits each. But knuckleballer Wood's wildness cost them the game as he walked 3 batters in the ill-fated and decisive 7th. Detroit evened their record at 4 and 4 by continuing to feast on Orioles pitching, clubbing them for 19 record-setting hits in a runaway 14-4 romp. Ty Cobb led the hit parade with a perfect 5 for 5. Hank Greenberg has 3 hits, a home run and 3 rbi's. Charley Gehringer also slammed a four bagger. Tommy Bridges (1-1) coasted to the victory, despite giving up 11 hits to the Birds. Jim Palmer (0-2) went out early again and suffered his second loss. The .350 hitting Tigers have now scored double digits in their last 3 games. In Philadelphia, Boston moved to 4 and 4 as well, by roughing up A's pitching for 16 hits and an easy 13-4 triumph. George Ruth (1-1) was the winner although he ran out of gas in the ninth inning and needed Luis Tiant to get the last out. Ruth stymied the Athletics on 6 hits, struck out 4, but walked 6, 3 of them in the 9th. Jim Rice and Dom DiMaggio each connected for 3 hits including Rice's 3 run shot in the 4th inning. Nomar Garciappara added 2 hits and 3 rbi's. Ed Rommel (1-1) was the losing pitcher and left in the 4th after 9 runs and 9 hits. The A's are 4-4 and 2 games out of first place. In the Senior League, the Pirates' Babe Adams (2-0), the control specialist, was in his usual form as he beat the first place Cincinnati Reds 5 to 2, scattering 9 hits and walking no one. He struck out 3 on the day. Arky Vaughan had 3 hits and 2 rbi's to pace Pittsburgh. Frank Robinson had 3 hits for Cincy. The losing pitcher was Bucky Walters (1-1), who pitched a credible game, going all the way, being touched for 9 hits with 4 K's and 4 BB's. The Pirates are 5 and 3 and are one game behind the Reds. At Ebbets Field the Dodgers had the chance to take over first place, but the visiting Philadelphia Phils finally put it all together for only their second win of the season. They had great hitting and fine pitching. They waylaid Brooklyn's highly regarded lefty, Sandy Koufax (2-1) for an unbelievable 19 hits on the way to a 9 to 4 victory. Mike Schmidt and Chuck Klein had 4 hits each, plus Del Ennis homered and totalled 3 rbi's, the same as Schmidt. Pete Alexander (1-1) had a no hitter until the 8th before he faltered in the last two innings. Overall he gave up 6 hits. The loss prevented the Dodgers from moving into first place. They still trail Cincinnati by a half game. In New York, the Atlanta Braves slipped by the Giants 4 to 3. Little Rabbit Maranville's ninth inning two bagger brought home the win. Juan Marichal seemed to have everything under his control until Wally Berger's bases loaded double in the 8th. Until then the Giant righthander was working on a two hit shutout. Reliever Rob Nen was the victim of Rabbit's ninth inning game winning hit. Lew Burdette started and pitched well for 7 innings before being lifted for a pinchhitter in the big Brave 8th, permitting only 6 hits, 1 earned run, with 6 strikeouts and 1 free pass. However Steve Bedrosian (1-0) got the win with 2 good innings of relief. New York's Bill Terry clubbed his 4th homer and Mel Ott added his first. Ferguson Jenkins gave the Cubs nine fine innings of pitching and his teammates supported him with 15 hits in bashing St. Louis 9-4 in Chicago. Kiki Cuyler went 5 for 5 with 3 runs scored, a double and triple. Ryne Sandberg provided a home run and 3 rbi's and Ernie Banks crushed his first homer. Jenkins stopped the Cardinals on 6 hits, striking out 8 and permitting only one walk. Johnny Mize had roundtripper #2 for the Redbirds. With the win the Cubbies avoided falling into last place. |

The AI would never allow Rivera to go come in the 7th and go to the 11th. It would pinch hit or remove him after a couple of innings. That's not the type of baseball that I grew up on. Relievers could go 4-7 innings prior to 1960 and that's one of the reasons I try to make most of the pitching changes and substitutions in my leagues. Anytime I think a pitcher might be removed for a pinchhitter in the first 6 innings, I play out that inning to keep the AI from removing him. I sim the first 6 innings and then play out the rest of the game. Walter Johnson went 11 innings in my league...12 is just about the maximum length they can go. And that is fine for me. Using this system I will have real "long relievers", who can come in the early innings when a starter gets knocked out and have him pitch 4-7 innings. I can also let a pitcher pitch longer in a blowout to keep the staff from getting overworked. I also avoid the AI pulling a pitcher in the late innings who has a safe lead...10-3 or 9-2...and let him try to finish the game. George Ruth had a big lead and a big pitch count (181) and I almost got him a complete game, which is what manager with an 8 man staff would have done in the 1950's, but he walked 3 in the ninth and I was forced to bring in Luis Tiant to get the last out. Ruth was just worn out. I can avoid the AI pulling a pitcher in a close game that has a low pitch count and a shutout or one who has a low pitch count and in a close game and the AI brings in the closer when it is not necessary, which happens in OOTPB too often. Pitcher use is one thing that needs to be worked on in the game. But maybe it has to be this way because the OOTPB is designed with settings for Modern Day baseball. It is getting crowded at the top of the American League. The Yankees are in first place with a 7 and 4 record, but Baltimore, Cleveland and Philadelphia are right on their tails just a half game out at 6 and 4. At Yankee Stadium New York (7-4) divided a doubleheader with last place Washington (4-7), both games decided in the 9th inning by one run. The Nationals won the opener 6-5 when Goose Goslin slammed a 2 run double off Sparky Lyle (0-1). Bill Dailey (1-0) hurled two inning scoreless innings to pick up the victory. And in dramatic fashion, Derek Jeter's walkoff homer off Dailey (1-1) decided game two 8 to 7. Ruth, Gordon and Lazzeri chipped in roundtrippers, too. Harmon Killebrew hit his first homer of the year for Washington. Mel Stottlemyre (1-0) won in relief of Ron Guidry. Baltimore (6-4) pitchers at home really cooled off the sizzling hot Detroit bats by taking a Sunday twinbill 6-1 and 3-2. The Tigers (4-6) had won 3 in a row and smashed 49 hits. Today it was quite a bit different as they totalled a paltry 9 hits in both games. Mike Mussina (2-0) stopped them on a 4 hitter and Mike Cuellar and Hoyt Wilhelm held them to only 5. Hal Newhouser (0-2) and Jim Bunning (1-2) took the losses. Wilhelm got his 3rd save by quelling a ninth inning threat in game 2. At Shibe Park the A's (6-4) took both ends of their doubleheader with Boston (4-6). In the first game Philadelphia pounded out 15 hits in route to an easy 11-4 win. Miguel Tejada, Mickey Cochrane and Al Simmons had 3 hits each for the Athletics. Bosox Carl Yastrzemski provided the game's only four bagger. Lefty Grove (1-2) spread out 9 hits in his complete game performance. Cy Young (1-2) was the loser. In the second affair Ed Plank (3-0) finessed his way to a 6-3 verdict. Al Simmons had 3 more hits and 2 rbi's and Gene Tenace a homer to pace Philadelphia. Roger Clemens (0-1) was tagged with the loss in his first start of the year. In Cleveland the Indians (6-4) split with Chicago (4-6), losing the opener 15 to 3, then taking the second game squeaker 10-9. Ed Cicotte (2-1) pitched a 7 hitter in the opener and Magglio Ordonez blasted two out of the park. Herb Score (1-2) took the loss. Earl Averill decided the second game slugfest with an 8th inning single that plated Tris Speaker with the winning run. Flip Rosen was 5 for 5 with 2 doubles, a triple and 5 rbi's among Cleveland's 18 base hits. Ordonez got his 3rd home run of the day for the White Sox. Early Wynn (1-0) won with 3 scoreless relief innings. Ted Lyons (0-2) got the defeat. NOTE: WILL PLAY NATIONAL LEAGUE GAMES MONDAY. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-06-2004 at 07:57 PM. |

In the National League, Atlanta (7-3) moved up into a first place tie with Cincinnati (7-3), while Brooklyn (6-5) fell to 4th place. A doubleheader win at the Polo Grounds helped the Braves move up in the standings. Javy Lopez clubbed a grand slammer off Christy Mathewson (1-2) in the opening 5-1 triumph. Lefthander Warren Spahn (2-0) was steady throughout the game on a nine hitter. In the second game thrashing Atlanta chalked up 22 hits and set two MLB records for runs scored and hits, but they still needed 8 runs in the 7th to seal the fate of the Giants 16-8. Rafael Furcal's 5 for 6 and 5 rbi's were a big factor. Chipper Jones and Eddie Mathews helped out with homers. Steve Bedrosian (2-0) lucked out and got credit for the win as he benefited from the Braves big inning. Johnny Sain was the only effective Atlanta pitcher, holding New York (4-6) to one run over three innings. He collected the save, while reliever Gaylord Perry was charged with the loss. It was all Deacon Phillippe (2-1) in Pittsburgh as he set down Cincinnati 4 to 2 in the first game of the twinbill, although he gave up 12 hits, but walked no one and fired 7 strikeouts. Paul Derringer (1-1) suffered the loss. Havana's Pride, Dolph Luque (2-1), gained a split in the second game to keep the Reds (6-4) in a first place tie with Atlanta, coming away with an 8-3 victory. Pete Rose belted losing pitcher Sam Tannehill (2-1) for 3 hits and 3 rbi's to lead the offense. Cincinnati (7-3) is tied with Atlanta in first place. The Pirates are in third place at 6 and 4. The rebounding Philadelphia Phils (4-7) won their third in a row by picking up two nailbiting victories over the Dodgers (6-5) at Ebbets Field. Chuck Klein's ninth inning double won the first game 7 to 6. while Dick Allen's two run shot clinched the second game 9 to 8. Reliever Rick Wise (1-0) got a save in the opener and a win in the nightcap. Relievers Bob Welch and Orel Hershiser were the Brooklyn losers. Over at Wrigley, the Cards (4-6) and the Cubbies (3-7) split a twinbill. St. Louis won a close one in the first game 7 to 5, with Stan Musial, Chick Hafey and Johnny Mize leading the 14 hit attack. Bob Gibson (2-1) got the victory and Al Hrabosky the save with a runless ninth. Moe Brown (0-3) and his 3 fingers continued to struggle and got the loss. In the second contest Chicago scored often and early and clubbed the Redbirds 11 to 7. Kiki Cuyler delivered 3 hits in each game. Ed Reulbach (2-1) didn't have an easy time, but came away with the win. Hippo Vaughn saved him with 3 good innings of relief. The Bruins fell into the cellar. After today's games, the New York Yankees are still on top of the American League with an 8 and 4 record, followed by Cleveland at 7 and 4 and Baltimore and Philadelphia at 6 and 5. In New York, the first place Yankees poured it on the 3rd place Orioles by the score of 10 to 3. Homers by Gehrig, DiMaggio and Gordon made it easy for Spud Chandler (2-0), who yielded only 6 hits. Urban Shocker (0-2) was kayoed early and caught the loss. Second place Cleveland (7-4) destroyed Philadelphia (6-5) 13 to 3 behind Bob Feller's 10 strikeouts and 5 hit pitching. They scored 10 runs in the first 3 innings to get rid of starter Rube Waddell (1-2). Lajoie's 4 hits and homers by Colavito and Doby paced the Tribe's 20 hit barrage. Cleveland still trails New York by a half game. The Tigers (5-6) on the road in Griffith Stadium punched out 13 hits off a trio of Washington (4-8) pitchers to ring up an 8-6 decision. Hank Greenberg's third homer this year put them ahead to stay. He tallied 3 hits and 3 rbi's. Schoolboy Rowe (2-0) pitched into the 7th for the win. John Hiller saved it for him and Jim Perry (0-1) lost it for the Nats. Chicago's (5-6) Gary Peters (1-0) came through with a strong performance, beating Boston 9-3 with Frank Thomas' 4th homer and Magglio Ordonez's 3 rbi's. Wildness by Pedro Martinez and Dick Radatz cost the Bosox (4-7) dearly. In the Senior Circuit, Cincinnati is 8 and 3 and on top of the standings. Pittsburgh and Atlanta are tied for second with 7-4 records and Brooklyn is next all even at 6 and 6. The Reds' righthander, Jim Maloney (1-0) throttled the Cardinals (4-7) on a 5 hitter 6 to 3. Bret Boone and Barry Larkin lashed in 2 runs each to knotch the victory. The Cards' Max Lanier (0-1) sustained the loss. Ducky Medwick had a solo homer for St. Louis. Vic Willis (1-0) of Pittsburgh supplied the pitching and his teammates the punch with 14 hits, led by Paul Waner's 4 hits and Ralph Kiner's 2 home runs and 3 rbi's. Willis restricted 8th place Chicago (3-8) to 6 hits and struck out 8 in subduing the Cubs 7 to 2. Lon Warneke (0-1) got the defeat. The guys from the City of Brotherly Love didn't show much compassion for the Braves and got their fourth consecutive win. The Phillies' Robin Roberts (1-1) finally put it all together and stymied second place Atlanta (7-4) 6 to 4 on a 7 hitter, walking 3 and striking out 4 batters. Philadelphia (5-7) got rid of Greg Maddux by the third inning, scoring all of their run off of him. Chuck Klein's two run roundtripper helped the Phils' cause. The Giants' (5-6) Johnny Antonelli (1-0) weaved his magic spell for 8 innings on the Brooklyn Dodgers (6-6) and then conjured up relief specialist Frank Linzy to get the final out. New York had a 4-0 shutout through 8 innings and just barely held on for the the 5-4 win. Brooklyn's spitballer Burleigh Grimes (0-1) went dry at the well to day and picked up the loss. Travis Jackson garnered 3 hits for the Giants. Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-07-2004 at 11:52 AM. |

Standings and stats will be posted once a week after Saturday games.
Comments would be appreciated. How can I improve this thread? What's good?...What's bad? I sure could use some synonyms for "wins", "victories", "triumphs", "home runs", "roundtrippers", "homers", "four baggers", "won", "defeated", "edged", "nipped", "blasted", "creamed", "crushed", "destroyed" and things of that nature, so as not to be so redundant in the writeups. There are so few ways to say the same old things for 8 games everyday. In your opinion, what make a Dynasty League interesting? If there is enough continued interest, I will try to get it on its own website, so you can have more access to the info you desire. dbacks can't do it for a few months. He is very busy right now. Do you know of anyone you would recommend to create the site and what the cost would be? Last edited by Eugene Church; 12-07-2004 at 01:20 PM. |

Alltime Allstar Feedback
Eugene,
This is an awesome idea! Thanks for posting rosters, results, etc. Are you planning on running just one season? What do the minors look like? Could you call up another all-time franchise great from AAA? Just wondering. |

All of the players are 18 to 22 years of age, so that they can have a 15 or 20 year career in this league. It will take me about 6 months to play a year (I have two fictional leagues that I enjoy very much, too). I sim the first 6 innings of a game and then playout the rest of it, so I can control almost all of the pitching changes and substitutions. I also choose all starting pitchers for each game and position players. I will evaluate player performances throughout the season and promote or demote based on stats. I don't use the minors. I import the players using Ankit's Career Database. Then I edit the player's ratings to make sure they are rated as close as I can get them to real life. Naturally, they will not all perform as in real life, because OOTPB will develop them in its own way. But they will start off with their real life ratings. New players will come from the pool of all the players that ever played for a particular franchise. When I use up all of the good players (down through its history each team had about 50-100 star players), then I will start using expansion team stars from the Mets, Astros, Angels, Padres, D'Backs, etc. In coming seasons, players that did not make the team initially will be called up as replacement for injured players or players that don't perform. Players will be given time to prove themselves. Backups behind Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and the other greats will be given a chance to prove themselves before I cut them and bring in a replacement. Actually I may have to cut Cobb, Ruth, Gehrig and many others if they don't perform well. There will be no trades. And I don't use financials. I use all of the great stadiums. Players are locked in forever to their original teams. When someone plays for several teams in his career like Clemens or Winfield, they will be assigned to the team that they played the most full years with (150 innings pitched or 400 AB's = full year). In case of ties, they will go to the team where they had their best years with. In coming seasons look for all your favorite stars down through history to play in this league. Arguably, I began with the best players in an original franchise's history. If I missed your favorite, give me some time and he will show up in later years.
