Only one game in each league...The top club in the American League, the Detroit Tigers (23-11) took their second consecutive win from the second place White Sox (19-14) behind some outstanding slants tossed by Schoolboy Rowe...Chicago is now 3 and a half games out of first place, just a half game ahead of the idle Yankees (19-15).

Over in the other league, the Giants (23-11), the number one team in the league, were shutout for 8 innings by Vic Willis of second place Pittsburgh (18-15), tied it in the ninth and easily ran away with the game in the tenth. The loss dropped the Pirates into a second place tie with the Cincinnati Redlegs (18-15), who had the day off.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Kuenn 1-3 .280 1run
Tebbetts 1-3 .289 1run
Rowe 1-3 .278 1run, 1rbi

Detroit moved three and a half games ahead of their closest rival, Chicago. The Tigers and Schoolboy Rowe blanked the White Sox 3 to 0 on a seven hitter...Ed Walsh and Red Faber (0-0 4.74) teamed up to stop Ty Cobb's hitting streak at 20 games, a Major League record. He went 0-3 and walked once.

Recap:
It took 10 innings but the New York Giants finally got to Pirates' starter, Vic Willis, and in a real big way, continuing the onslaught against Elroy Face. They tallied seven runs to win going away 8 to 1.
Willie Mays socked a 425 foot solo shot to tie it up in the ninth 1-1, then everyone else joined in the hit parade. Carl Hubbell (4-1 2.37)left after seven trailing 1-0. Gary Lavelle went two scoreless frames and got the victory. Robb Nen (4-1 3.63) finished it for him after he was pulled for a pinchhitter. Willis took down the loss.

Thanks for the support. I hope there are more like you out there.

The Big Train has great ratings as do almost all of the players in the league.
Killebrew, Oliva and Puckett have been disappointing so far. I suppose some will be stars...some average...and some less than average.
I don't think they can all be good.

Aguilera and Dailey have been real good in relief...I have to use Dailey as a starter sometimes because of the doubleheaders. Dailey is one of my alltime favorite Mobile Bears. He and Gary Bell were on the same team in the 50's...I was a ballboy and got to know them real well. Used to go over to Dailey's house. Dailey was always a starter in the minors...led the Southern Association twice in ERA and also the Three I League with the Keokuk Kernels. That's why use him as a spot starter. Bell was one of my favorites, too. Gordy Coleman of the Reds also was a fine person and player for Mobile. Sad he died in his 50's. I think he was a Reds broadcaster at the time. Both he and Bell had good solid major league careers. Dailey had one great year and then dropped out...must have been arm trouble...never did find out what happened to him.

Right now pitching seems to be dominating in the AABA...they give up hits, but not runs. I would like to see an old-fashioned 15-14 slugfest soon.

Should've put a franchise in Colorado

Nice work, as always.

Yeah, I agree...and it should be the Denver Bears, too.

Not the Colorado Rockies.

Thanks for the nice words...I appreciate it.

Sorry, I haven't had time to play any games...been spending time on the Logo Project to design logos for a fictional league, which will probably end up being a version of the old proposed Continental League from the late 50's. which Major League Baseball put out of business by expanding slightly. I think the logo designers will really come up with some great logos...you should check them out when they are finished...you can see them Wednesday, if everything goes as scheduled.

Will try to play a day's schedule on Sunday.

Good old "Ding Dong" Bell!

Really enjoy your style, Eugene, just wanted to let you know that I'm still reading along.

Thanks for perusing and the nice words.

It is nice to get feedback on this. People still view it...just don't make many comments or suggestions, good or bad...more feedback on how to improve it would be helpful...so I'll keep doing it.

Really wish my website would get up and running as I think it would really save me some time. I didn't realize it would take a month to get it set up.

When it is ready, you guys will have access to all the league information and then I can concentrate on analysis and reporting in my dynasty posts.

Recap:
The Tigers Virgil Trucks was outstanding against the White Sox, corralling them on six hits and 2 runs for his fifth straight victory. He has yet to lose a game this year. Magglio Ordonez was the only thorn in his side as he hammered two downtowners to account for both of the Pale Hose scores. Detroit wasted many chances to score with 12 hits. Hank Greenberg's fifth inning single was the game winner. Loser Ed Cicotte fell to 6 and 2 on the season...The Tigers took the last three of the four game series between the top two contenders in the American League.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

This afternoon in a single game, second place Pittsburgh (19-15) got a come-from-behind win over first place New York (23-12) and shaved a full game off the league lead, now trailing by three and a half games...fifth place Philadelphia (17-19) put the kill on second place Cincinnati (18-17) by taking the last two games of the four games series.

The NL runnerup, the Pittsburgh Pirates salvaged an even split in a four game series with first place New York by finally getting lefty Johnny Antonelli's number in the last of the eighth. Antonelli had totally held the Bucco batters in check and had a 2-0 lead and working a two hitter, but he couldn't hold it.
Roberto Clemente jacked a solo job out of the park for the first run, then with the bases loaded, Jason Kendall teed off on a Robb Nenn's fastball. Reds' starter Pete Donahue didn't fare to well today and took the brunt of the 17 hit Cincinati attack. Rick Wise powered his fastball past 11 batters and got the win with ninth inning relief help from Big Jim Konstanty...He got the last final out to squash the Reds rally.
