I'm suprised you're taking '94 teams, but they still did play so I guess you should be using them.

No one sticks out from this group. More Yankee teams, joy.

Sleeper pick: '47 Indians. Why? Why not!

I used all the teams for the 20th century. Since I based my seedings on winning percentage, having shorter seasons didn't matter. I didn't want to exclude any years. Also the lack of a postseason meant nothing to this tourney, as WS winners are treated no differently then a team that finished .500. So basically I couldn't find a good reason to exclude any year.

No you're right. In my mind I just forget that '94 ever happened. I know what you are doing and that makes total sense. Just excuse me and my overworked brain.

Believe me I like to forget about the '94 season

But if one those teams was the best team ever, we are gonna find out what we missed out on in '94

I predict the 1939 Yankees will wipe the floor with their division rivals. They had easily one of the most dominating seasons ever. If the 1977 Yankees, a strong 5th seed in this group, were in the same division they wouldn't finish within 10 games of the '39 squad.

Dagrims, I agree. The '39 Yanks should roll into round 2. In my opinion most of the teams that could have possibly challenged them('08 NYG, '06 PIT, 85 NYM) all ended up in the NL, so I think it is pretty open for them. But then again I have pretty much been wrong everytime

Key Players for group #9:

4.5-5.0 Star Catchers: Mike Piazza('94 LA, 99 NYM)

4.5-5.0 Star 1B: Jimmie Foxx('38 BOS), Willie McCovey('70 Giants)

4.5-5.0 Star 2B: Joe Gordon('39 NYY), Eddie Collins('20 CHA)

4.5-5.0 Star 3B: None

4.5-5.0 Star SS: Joe Cronin('31 WSH, '38 BOS)

4.5-5.0 Star OF: Charlie Keller('39 NYY), Joe DiMaggio('39 NYY), Darryl Strawberry('85 NYM), Bobby Bonds('70 SF), Vic Wertz('49 DET), Pete Reiser('41 BRO)

5.0 Star SP: Nolan Ryan('91 Tex, 88 HOU), Walter Johnson('13 WSH), Deacon Phillippe('06 PIT), Mike Scott('88 HOU), Ron Guidry('77 NYY), Christy Mathewson('08 NYG), Kevin Gross('94 LA), Red Ames('08 NYG)

Is Walter Johnson enough to get the '13 Senators into round #2. The 1988 Astros are a low seed, but with Ryan and Scott they have a shot. The 1939 Yankees are loaded on offense, will they pound their way to round #2?

The Answers are coming.

Thru April:
Best Records: 1999 Mets(19-8), 1970 Giants(19-8), 1920 White Sox(19-8), 1908 Giants(19-8)

Biggest Surprise Team thus far: #26 Seed 1991 Rangers(18-9)

Biggest Dissapointment: #1 Seed 1939 Yankees(9-18)

HR Leader: Many Tied 6

BA Leader: Pete Reiser('41 BRK) .436

Wins Leader: Gary Nolan('67 Reds) 7

In a total shock the 1939 Yankees are in an absolute struggle to survive. They have endured two long losing streaks thus far. Their team ERA of 6.25 has to improve or they are in serious trouble.

Thru May:
Best Records: 1999 Mets(40-15), 1970 Giants(36-19), 1908 White Sox(35-20)

Biggest Surprise Team thus far: #30 Seed 1994 Dodgers(29-26)

Biggest Dissapointment: #1 Seed 1939 Yankees(25-30)

HR Leader: Robin Ventura('99 NYM) 13

BA Leader: Pete Reiser('41 BRK) .436

Wins Leader: Juan Marichal('70 Giants) 11

A winning month has gotten the 1939 NYY back into the running, but they are still out of round #2 if it were to end today. In a shock the 1999 Mets are tearing up the league with their offense. They lead the group in homers and runs, and are third BA so far.

The 1939 Yankees(42-39) are alive and well. After starting the season 10-20, they have won 32 of 51 to break .500. Pete Resier is putting up a monster average thus far. His BA hasn't dipped below .400 since mid April.

What an incredible tournaround. From 10-20 to 62-44, the 1939 Yankees are now firmly in position to advance. Pete Reiser('41 BRK) is now up .062 in the NL batting race, the biggest margin I have seen at this point in a season thus far in the tourney.
