Yet Another OOTP6 Dynasty, Year 2: One Flew Over the Pale Hose
"He's into his wind-up. Here's the pitch. Strike on the inside corner! Hooo-weee, a motherf*cking slider! What a pitch!"
... "It's two outs, bases loaded as Buehrle steps up to the mound. Checks the runners...goes into his wind-up...here comes the three-two pitch...and it's a fly ball into deep right-center. Ordonez is going back. He's going back! Back! His back is up against the wall...and...he catches it! He catches it! Holy ####! The White Sox win it! They win it!" Like Randall McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, I fancy myself as a sane man in an insane world, with but one dream at this moment's time. That dream is to see the World Series. The cast of characters isn't quite the same as the Oscar-winning movie, but it'll do. Instead of Billy Bibbit, we have Jorge DePaula, singly personifying every disorder in the DSM-IV. Our Charlie Cheswick is undoubtedly Hackin' Miggy Olivo, who never met a baseball that he wouldn't take a cut at. And even the great Chief Bromden can't hold a candle to The Art of Suck, Esteban Loaiza. But y'all know that's all really irrelevant anyway, since OOTP only knows ratings. That means there's really only one thing separating me from R.P. McMurphy, and it's not the padded walls. Jack Nicholson's character had visions of Koufax and Mantle dancing in his mind as he sat so near, yet so far from seeing the highest level of competition in the greatest game there is. And my dream, so close yet so far away, runs through the south side of Chicago.

I didn't notice I was the one who first replied in the amazing dynasty (the other thread). G'luck Craig.

fight, fight, fight for the cherry and white!
Leaping lizards...there's a picture in the thread. Did you know that the first thread went 800 posts without one?
You do now. The following is probably more suitable for the Octopus League, a most-excellent read, but I'm going to throw it in here anyway. Call it our theme song if you will. I just think it's a rockin' track. Make of the lyrics what you wish. I dreamed about killing you again last night And it felt alright to me Dying on the banks of Embarcadero skies I sat and watched you bleed Buried you alive in a fireworks display Raining down on me Your cold, hot blood ran away from me To the sea I printed my name on the back of a leaf And I watched it float away The hope I had in a notebook full of white, dry pages Was all I tried to save But the wind blew me back via Chicago In the middle of the night And all without fight At the crush of veils and starlight I know I'll make it back One of these days and turn on your TV To watch a man with a face like mine Being chased down a busy street When he gets caught I won't get up And I won't go to sleep I'm coming home, I'm coming home Via Chicago Where the cups are cracked and hooked Above the sink They make me think Crumbling ladder tears don't fall They shine down your shoulders Crawling is screw faster lash I blow it with kisses Rest my head on a pillowy star And a cracked door moon He says I haven't gone too far I'm coming home I'm coming home I'm coming home Via Chicago I'm coming home I'm coming home I'm coming home Searching for a home Searching for a home Searching for a home Via Chicago I'm coming home I'm comin' home... --Wilco, "Via Chicago"

coach-fish
Another lame little update. Don't worry, I'll skim off the top of the casserole starting tomorrow.
Being that we are a small-market team constantly looking to minimize payroll, it's a parade of new coaches this year. That does not necessarily mean our old coaches have moved on to bigger and better things, just that inaminate objects are less costly. The most expensive of the three is our new scout, christened Clark McTaggart. He's actually one of those singing fish that you can mount on the wall. After a rendition of "Heartbreak Hotel", the first words out of Clark Clam's mouth are "Esteban Loaiza throws the ball with confidence. He probably won't be a 20-game winner, but is very much a quality starter." I slap the fish and resign to never, ever waste another word talking about our supposed coaching staff.

I know all about those crap scouting reports. The scouts are so American, by which I mean they kiss everyone's ass without wanting to say what they truly think
![]() EDIT: Sorry, I'm just tired of all the Patriots and Tom Brady ass-kissing througout the media (I still don't think he should have won that first Superbowl MVP award). Plus the way the Pat players spend all their time kissing all of each others asses and the media still drivels on about how modest they are. GO FINS! ![]()

Oh no, not a Dolphins fan (just don't look at my avatar, please. Thanks).
Craig, I just realized why you started a new thread. Just to be eligible for the 2005 Countdown. You dog! I saw coach-fish and thought you were talking to me, but then read the paragraph. Had to do a doubletake. And again with the Wilco. I guess I'm going to have to break down and actually listen to some of their music. That's like the 4th or 5th time you've brought them up. |

Outstanding theme song. One of my favorite Wilco songs, and not just because quoting the first verse makes people look at me funny.
