I'm using default pitching ratings. I have had a couple pitchers created with contact between 20-30, which may be good for a .300 BA in this league.

BTW, I've been unable to create movement ratings below 20/100 (I can do talents below 20). It hasn't really been a problem so far, b/c every pitcher has had a movement above or, I believe, just 1 to 2 points below 20 (so I didn't sweat the difference, figuring the rating would quickly fall to the talent). Turns out this is a built-in limitation. So new rule: no movements below 20!

Yeah, but you also need to create a team for him; I'll create the other players. Or you could get one of the other team owners to put him on their team...

Jestor PM'ed to say that he is leaving the forums and asked me to fill out the rest of the Gladiators for him. I'll do that, but it's a shame he won't be staying and writing about his team. I hold out hope that he'll change his mind & come back.

Double dola...

You know, we probably ought to decide now how new players will be created. I see at least two options here, each with its own arguments pro and con.

1) Allow teams to replace the exact number and types of players who retired. If 2 pitchers and 1 first baseman retire, then you can create 2 new pitchers and 1 new first baseman. The quality of the player could depend on where you finished in the regular season last year. If you finished sub-.500, you get a 5% chance to create a 240 hitter or 180 pitcher, a 10% chance to create a 220 hitter or 170 pitcher, a 25% chance to create a 200 hitter or 160 pitcher, and a 60% chance to create a 180 hitter or 140 pitcher. If you finished above .500, you get a 10% chance to create a 240 hitter or 180 pitcher, a 20% chance to create a 220 hitter/170 pitcher, a 30% chance to create a 200 hitter/160 pitcher, and a 40% chance to create a 180 hitter/140 pitcher. I could use a random number generator in Excel to run the "draft lottery."

2) Use the same draft lottery with the same rules, except that every team gets to create 2 new players of any type each year.

The argument for option #1 would likely be that it compensates teams that started out with a lot of veterans and prevents some teams from growing particularly large or particularly small. The argument for option #2 would be that it may place teams on a more level playing field.

Other options? If so, I'll post a poll with them all for All-Forum managers to vote on.

I would suggest that a modification of (1) might be in order.
How about when a player retires, the owner gets to create a new player of the same general type- fielder or pitcher- regardless of specifics. (IE: Player could be a starter, reliever or closer; or play any of the positions). Points would be equal to the retired players' initial points. If the player was one of the 'special' types (IE: can play infield & outfield, etc) then that feature could be replaced as well. If he wasn't, not so much.

Thoughts?

Makes sense to me!

Sorry I've been lagging, but I will get my team in. Will probably get a lot of it done this weekend.

Well, Matt, I've been draggin' my heels, so I know he's waiting on me to a degree. I'm trying to get it done this weekend.

As of this afternoon, I was completely caught up on all the players that had been sent to me. The teams and the number of players left are as follows:

Atlantic City - 18 more needed
Bellaire - DONE!
Bethel Park - all 35 needed
Cooperstown - DONE!
Corvallis - all 35 needed
Groton - all 35 needed
Nicholasville - 29 more needed
Pittsfield - DONE!
Racine - 30 more needed (apparently I'll have to do these since Jestor has left)
Treasure Valley - DONE!
Utica - 32 more needed
Valois - 18 more needed
Wantagh - all 35 needed
Worcester - 20 more needed

Looks as if we'll have 14 teams, good for two one-division leagues of 7 teams each.

Edit: BTW, Blueturf's spreadsheet really is pretty nifty. It makes player submission a snap.

I've started posting in my thread, have the starting 8 position players done.

I just sent reminders to all the owners with players left who haven't posted new players today. So far everyone who's responded is still in! It may take me another week to finish out the remaining teams, since I'm only about halfway done through the total number of players I'll have to create. Once I do that, I'll set up a webpage and let everyone peruse their own (and each other's) teams, and let me know whether anything is wrong.

It is. But in the end, I managed to make my team wholly out of guys who went to my high school. Classmates.com came in handy toward the end.

I think for future years I'll have to expand to college, family, and so on, though.

I'm using mostly college people and the kids I associated with in high school. I'm running out of ideas!

I'm starting to make up some names. After 18 hitters, I drew a blank for people I'd want on my team. I still have a few friends to add, but I want them to be pitchers.

Seriously, you may want to try classmates.com. It jogged my memory about a lot of people I'd forgotten about.

I'm using largely guys I played with in high school and family/friends. A few fictional guys, a couple of movie players as well to come to round out the squad. My softball team is made up of family and friends, so it's easy to work around the horn, so to speak.
