20th Century Tourney: # of Games Question(Please Vote)
I obviously underestimated how many games I should go in the last poll. I really should have asked the question before posting the poll.
At the end of Round #6(Round of 32) there will be 16 teams left standing. Each of these teams will have played 972 games to get there. My question to you is how many games would you like to see these final matchups have. I will go with whatever the majority chooses, because I am unsure as to what would be fair for those final 16(and beyond). After such a long road to get there, it seems like 5 or 7 games might not be enough. Thanks to everyone who votes, and sorry for the confusion.

I believe the more, the better. Baseball is partly about longevity over the course of a season, as well as depth - both rotation, bullpen and bench. The more games played, the better idea of who really is the best complete "team."
I went w/ race to 20 wins. A full 39 games would allow all but 1 SP in a 4-man rotation pitch 10 times. |

Woody I voted for the max games, but I believe that once you get to 32 teams, you could do two 16 team leagues with 8 advancing from each, then do a round of 16 with 8 teams advancing to the final round of 8 winner take all 154 gm schedule. If two teams are tied at the end of this round then have them play off in a best of 9 series. This tourney has been a lot of fun following. I think this is the best idea for coming up with the best team of the 20th century that I have ever seen. Great job, as usual, Woody!

As far as it goes, I want it to come down to the final 16 in best of x series, I don't have a concrete reason for why, I just like the championship coming down to a race to Y wins. The series idea just intrigues me Your idea would work well and I appreciate the input.

Of course I read the posts after voting and realized that I should have picked Other because I really like the idea of working from down from 32 to 16 and finally 8. As a bonus to all of us who are following along, this system will probably stretch the tourney a bit longer. Keep up the great work!

Actually the final series will probably stretch out the life of the tourney longer then full seasons, simply because I plan on recapping each game. I will probably give a brief summary of who the stars were and how the the game was won. So the best of 79 format may really make this tourney last
