Fantasy vs historical play

What is the attraction to playing fantasy leagues? To me it seems diminished but there seem to be some quality fantasy leagues with committed owners. Just curious why they chose fantasy over historical?

There's a good discussion on it here. A search of the forums will yield some more.

Real World Setup Vs Fictional Setup

I'm curious why you think they would be diminished?

The 'I don't like to see George Brett traded for Dickie Noles' sentiment is my #1 reason. People, including me, tend to get frustrated when things happen that would never happen in real life. In fictional leagues, you aren't constrained by what 'should' happen. You can explain anything with a fictional story.

I never played fictional until a joined a fictional online league. It was probably my favorite OOTP experience ever. I really enjoyed making up stories to go along with what happened. Give it a try. I really think the game is set up best to play fictionally and kinda retrofit to play modern rosters and historical.

THanks for the link.

I dunno, I guess i figure when one has access to the greats of the past, wouldnt it be more interesting to see them come to life, as it were. When I was younger I got started in board games like strat-o-matic and they used all-star players and real stats. I guess thats my reference.
