It spit out photos for all 8,849 players in just about half an hour on my old machine running Win 98.

Great! That means I should be able to do about the same number of players in about 10 minutes.

Can't wait for this release!

This is going to be one of the coolest mods to date, IMO. Thank you so very much for allowing people like me to sponge off of your dedication, initiative and altruism!

Someday I should really give something back!

I agree with Hellion, except I'm going to have to look up the word altruism.

Seriously though I use to make a big deal about how I would never play OOTP2006, but because of this mod I am going to give it a try again. I just hope that the game has gotten better with the latest patch.

But if Layton figures a way to make this work with 6.5, I'm going right back.

Thank you both, I appreciate the kind words.

Of course, the word "altruism" doesn't apply. I made this mod in order to enhance my gaming experience. If anyone else finds it useful, that's just a bonus.

Only a few more hours lads...

And I'm reaping all of the benefits <rubs hands together gleefully>

Not at all... sorry I haven't gotten back to you.

Currently, this is not possible, but I will stick a line of code in tonight that should do the trick.

Basically, you will have to go into Control Panel->BDE Administrator and then deleted the "nations.db" table under the "FaceTool1" Alias, then the next time you start FaceTool, it will rebuild the table using your new nations.txt.
That's awesome! Thanks for all the hard work you've put into this.

Version 1.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FaceTool Version 1.0!

Before I begin, I have three comments:
  1. Thank you to everyone who has given me positive feedback and assistance in putting this together. Sometimes when you're coding into the wee hours trying to resolve a bug, completely exasperated, the best thing to do is jump on the forums to read a new comment from someone who's excited to use the final product. It makes it a thousand times easier knowing that your work is being used and appreciated.
  2. Huge thank-yous to Deft and Bobble. I really hope this version works for you both.
  3. This is still a work in progress. There are a lot of features that didn't quite make it in this time (hair, coach/personnel photos, a better player editor, etc.), and there are a couple of bugs that I know about but don't have the time/expertise to address just yet. There will be a version 2.0 eventually, but I probably won't have much time to work on it for the next little while (back to school, starting my law school applications, municipal and federal election campaigns, etc.) But this is not the end of development. I am also not sure if the program will still work after the next OOTP Patch is released. If not, I should be able to fix it quickly (the only thing that would affect things is if the CSV dumps change at all, but it would only take 2 seconds to mirror those changes in FaceTool.)
On to business.

For Everyone: FaceTool v1.0 Installer (contains everything you need)
For People like Deft and Bobble: Bag O' 6,156 Heads (PNG format, in a RAR archive)
For People like Markus: Delphi 7 Source Code (just the main .pas file, not the whole .dpr, just to give you an idea of some of the functions such as Colorize() and Overlay() ... it also requires the pngimage library, available from http://pngdelphi.sourceforge.net/)

NOTE TO BETA VERSION USERS: Before installing 1.0, un-install the Beta, and delete everything in the FaceTool folder, especially configuration.ini and nations.csv. I tried to make the upgrade path happen, but I just don't have enough time before I leave town tomorrow.

Unfortunately, there is no help file included, but over the next little while I will add instructions, faq, troubleshooting, and some screenshots to this post.

Enjoy.

-Devin

Dola,

Two important things I forgot...
1) I have tested the program, but not the installer, so let me know if it doesn't install properly.
2) There is a known bug where, in "player at a time" mode, the "See Current Photo" button will cause an error. This only happens some of the time.

Och - you were doing great until you mentioned the errors!!!

Just kidding, of course, this looks great - thanks for your sweat, tears and (god forbid) blood!

Cheers!

Is there a way to choose which generic uniform style a team uses?

Okay, I am having issues. When I start the game after hitting cancel to use the default folders I get these errors.

There was an error creating the database alias.

Table does not exist.
File or directory does not exist.
File c:\Program Files\OOTPfacetool\data\games.db.

Then after I hit okay and get to the program screen and I try to load a league I get this error.

Nations table: cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset.

Any idea what I am doing wrong? I used the beta version and it worked fine, I also deleted out the stuff in the data file before installing like was asked.

Unfortunately no. I want to add this in a future version, though.

Hmmm....

Not sure exactly what's happening.

First, make sure the program is actually installed at c:\Program Files\OOTPfacetool\
If it is, open the file configuration.ini
The second line of that file should read c:\Program Files\OOTPfacetool\

If you've checked both of those, and they are both fine, then try the following:
  1. Go to Settings->Control Panel->BDE Administrator
  2. Look for the Alias "FaceTool1", and delete it
  3. Go into c:\Program Files\OOTPfacetool\data and delete everything that's in there except nations.csv and facialhair.csv (basically, delete anything that ends with .db)
  4. Delete the file c:\Program Files\OOTPfacetool\configuration.ini and the file c:\Program Files\OOTPfacetool\errors.txt
  5. Try re-running FaceTool and see what happens.
Sometimes it sort of misfires when it's trying to create the database so if you delete the whole database and start over sometimes that fixes it.

If that doesn't help, let me know and I'll see if I can figure something else out.

got 2 of the same errors but the second one was this

Access violation at address 004ed97d in module 'Facetool.exe' read of address 000000

instead of the one about table does not exist. The other 2 were the same

Two more things:

1) Only right-handed hitters seem to be getting the bat, left-handers don't have them.

2) I get an AliasError after deleting the database in the BDEAdmin, I was just testing the ability to use different nations.txt--well, that and I was having some troubles with saving ethnicity/facial hair options.
