The big problem I found in just straight copying layers is that psp doesn't seem to provide you a way of copying an element and keeping it positioned in the exact same spot on your canvas. It insists on centering the element so say a front of the jersey design ends up smack in the middle of the canvas and you have to move it back into its correct position which, at least for us sometime perfectionists, is overly tedious and ultimately not something I want to bother doing. So I settled for coloring the background and then later erasing it, but as I mentioned that produces a result that just doesn't look right. You'd think there'd be a better way. Maybe there is. Any tips? As an aside, I really liked how you had your color layers underneath your masks only have a rectangle around the mask area as it helps me quickly recognize which layer I'm looking for (I find the text size of the layer labels to be too small). It took me awhile to realize how to do it myself, but I finally figured it out so I'll post that in case others would like to do the same: Quote:

I try not to rely on them, as they aren't very efficient (in terms of keeping the files small), but I end up with dozens of them anyway. As for PSP questions, I don't use it at all, so I have no constructive feedback to offer. Last edited by Gern44; 03-18-2011 at 07:39 AM. |

The easiest way to copy a layer and keep the position the same is to add a small square (4 pixel square brush or smaller) to each of the diagonal corners on the source image. Doesn't matter which corners. Save the layer, PNG is fine. Open the PNG in PSP and copy the layer and paste as a new layer in to your template. Look at the attached image. I filled it with gray(so you could see it) and added red to the corners. The red will not show on your jersey. Now the elements will be in the correct position.
A tip for PSP users is to change the color of the layer groupings. You can make the groups different colors for organizational purposes. Double click on the group. In the Layer Properties check the 'Highlight in layers palatte'. Select a color. Makes viewing the groups easier. Last edited by micropterus58; 03-18-2011 at 12:44 PM. |
