Do you want a jersey tutorial ?

I've made uniform creation tutorials for NBA Live 2005/2006, Maximum Football and helped on one for MVP Baseball 2005. I paint cars for rFactor, GTR2 and NASCAR Season 2003. I make uniforms for NBA Live and MVP Baseball. I have a lot of experience doing this though I rarely reply to requests. I am willing to make a tutorial if there is a demand for one. I will make it for Paint Shop Pro since I own and use PSPX2. I rarely use Photoshop and I could not make a tutorial for PS. I use info and tutorials for Paint.Net, The Gimp and PS to help me learn so this tutorial should help ALL graphics program users.

I don't mind helping out people and it's my way of giving back to the developers, modders and users. If you'd like a tutorial let me know. Post suggestions and ideas. This tutorial isn't for me, it's for you. I need some feedback.

Installation of jerseys and caps:
Caps and jerseys can be installed in two different locations depending on how you want to use them.

The first is a global location. For example if you have a team in multiple leagues they will use the same cap and jersey. Place these in Z:\OOTP Baseball 13\data\ballcaps and Z:\OOTP Baseball 13\data\jerseys.

The second uses caps and jerseys for a specific league. If you have the Hartford Huskies in two leagues they can have different caps and jerseys. Place these in Z:\OOTP Baseball 13\data\saved_games\your_league.lg\ballcaps and Z:\OOTP Baseball 13\data\saved_games\your_league.lg\jerseys

This guy is good, I know him from car racing games, and he writes a good tutorial. If you have the Carviewer tutorial, he's the guy that did it.

For myself, it would be very helpful. I own Paint Shop Pro, however, I am very limited as to what I can do since I am not very knowledgeable on how to use most of the program.

I use Paint Shop pro and have been for quite some time now. I just can't seem to get the hang of Photoshop at all. I used to do a lot of train reskins when I was running Microsoft's Train Sim game, so I know how to do that and I have also done some car repaints as well, but still I would like the tutorial, especially getting into layers. I just have a really hard time getting that down in my head as to how to use them properly.
Anyway, I have seen your posts here when you have helped others. You explain things very precisely and so a dummy like me can understand them so yes, absolutely, a tutorial on uniforms or anything else in this sim would really be a good thing. And thank you very much.

Due to the overwhelming poll response and thousands of requests I'll start working on a tutorial. Actually the weather report predicting 90+ degree days in CT is more of a reason. Below is a list of tutorials that I and others have made for other games for PSP and PS. These may help you, especially those that don't understand layers very well. I learned by painting in NASCAR 4. It doesn't matter if your painting a Ford Taurus, a Red Sox or Lakers uniform or a Ferrari F2008.

Use Google or any search engine to learn more about your paint program of choice. Most programs have users groups. Search on 'psp tutorial', 'psp tips', 'psp help'. Substitute your program for 'psp'. You'll find hundreds of sites.

Thank you so much. Am glad that you are going to do that for us. I think it will help me tremendously. And thanks for the above tutorial places as well. Am going to check them all out.
Hmmm. I did some repaintings of NASCAR4 as well. That seems like many many years ago. I have lost the touch since getting away from it for some time now. Just a matter of relearning the PSP program I guess. I will get there, especially with help from people like you.
Looking forward to the tutorial.
By the way, what's with the ninety degree temps up there? It isn't even that warm here in SW Virginia. Strange year for weather, for sure.

Again, thanks for all of your help now and to come.

I read you have made jersey for basketball. i want to create my own jersey for NBA LIVE 08 and i want to see my own design being used in my game. can you please tell me what to do. because i read i tutorial and i think it lacks detail information on what to do, where to get things, i end up giving up. all i have are blank jersey templates, i think, and logos. can you please help me? thank you so much. i appreciate your help. i also use GIMP but i just downloaded it for the purpose of creating my own jersey, that leads to me not knowing how to use the program. thank you again.

I use Paint.net and have been able to pretty much do whatever I want with it (except for round logos), so I really don't feel the need for it personally.

However, if it would enable more users to start doing uniforms, then I support it wholeheartedly. I think there is room for much improvement.

I love tutorials. I never feel like my knowledge is complete, so id love to see one.

Conversely, if there's anything I can do to assist in its creation, just hollar.

Wait wait wait wait wait....hold on a second...this is why you don't just go around bumping two-year old threads.

Micropterus58 (aka bassman58) did this tutorial a long time ago: http://www.jazzrack.us/mods/ootpmods...and%20Caps.pdf

Chicagofan76, the tutorial should translate to GIMP or any other graphic program. The tools may have different names but the basics are the same. If you have any problems, just ask questions. I learn from Photoshop tutorials and users of Paint.net even though I use Paint Shop Pro.

silverspyder, search the NLCS download sections for tutorials from NBA Live 2005 and beyond. The basics are the same. The textures are different. Crappystuff, aka Lean, also made a tutorial. My tutorials list many sources for materials but they may not be valid anymore. Search the forums at NLCS. There is a lot of information there. Unlike NBA 2K Sports modders, information is shared. Otherwise send me a PM either here or at NLCS (Bassman58). I don't mind answering questions about uniform creation in general but the admins probably want to confine posts here to OOTP. I worked my way through your tutorial a couple nights ago and it was fantastic! I'm not a complete newb to image editing nor am I expert, but it was well worth going through nonetheless. It must have been a lot of work to put it all together so thank you for taking the time to do it.

If you don't mind, I have a couple questions for you:

1) Do you remember what exact samples you used for your textures? I'd like to put names to them. I don't quite understand the whole shadows and textures stuff. Yeah, I get that shadows give depth and textures give a fabric look, but I can't really give an opinion of what looks good and what doesn't. Putting a name to the layers might help digest them however.

2) How did you convert deft's ps template to psp? Is it easy? I at first tried to work with his v3 in GIMP, but it seemed to be a bit of a mess in GIMP then I found yours and was happy that it was in psp format, but then realized it was based off his v2. If there's an easy way to convert it I'd love to know how just so I can know I have the latest and greatest. My guess is you just copied every layer to a new file in psp.

kq76, 1) I don't have names for most of the textures. One was flannel. Some I took from sites that had uniforms. MLB store or Dick's Sporting Goods or Google. I just copied a plain jersey and saved the texture. The texture layers are a layer filled with a pattern and that layer is changed to a multiply blend mode. That way you can see thru the texture and the color shows thru. You can use other blend modes. You can create your own textures and add them to your template. This site has textures and patterns you can use for OOTP and other projects. [CG Textures] - Textures for 3D, graphic design and Photoshop!

2) I could not open Deft's V3 template with PSP. All I got was one flat image. I have to use Photoshop and copy every layer I want to keep and paste it to PSP. Yes it can take awhile. My PSP template keeps growing in size. It's almost 5 MB.
