Early MLB logo? (circa 1940-1950)
I've looked to the best of my ability--no snickering please--but I cannot seem to find any evidence of a MLB logo that pre-dates the current version. I'm looking for the version that would have been used in the 40's, 50's. The current logo is too modern for my retro preference--and lacking any PS skills to speak of, I wouldn't be able to create anything that I would then want to use myself...
If anybody out there has it, knows what it looked like, or can simply verify that no such logo ever existed, that would be much appreciated. |

MLB as we know of now is very modern. There was no MLB it was strictly the American League and National League. I believe the league logos for the AL and NL have not changed much over time. There is no MLB logo other than the current one.

Thanks, SandMan. I kinda figured this was probably the case, due to the complete lack of anything resembling such a logo on the internet...

They did have memorial logos during the war:

Many thanks for the link, rocknfire. The memorial shield will work very nicely: historical and appropriate for the era that I like to sim. Thanks!

The MLB logo was a marketing thing more than anything else. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal ( The Man Behind the MLB Logo - WSJ.com ), it was designed in 1968 and was to "signify that MLB was placing league-wide merchandizing rights under the auspices of a new umbrella company, and to commemorate the national pastime's upcoming centennial. ."
Of course, now they have a logo for everything. I like that shield as well and I think I'll place it one the sleeves of my players' jerseys. Good find!
