New Logo Design - Opinions Wanted
Hey guys, this is a new logo style I'm working on for MLB Logos. I'm not 100% sold on it.
I think they may be too 'busy'. I like the 'plastic effect' on the text. But I'm afraid that's what makes them look too busy to me. The translucent Home Plate came to me by way of an error in the design and I really liked it. What do you guys think?

If I played with real teams, I would use them for sure.
I'm interested in learning how you did some of that stuff so that I could use the techniques creating fictional logos. |

I like them and I'd use them if a set were available. I like the wide variety of logo styles that people have posted. Some people don't like glossy logos and some don't like round logos. We get to choose what we like. Since OOTP 10 uses different sized logos througout the game, these logos should look good at the larger sizes but may be too "busy" in smaller sizes. It really depends on your screen resolution.
I normally make my own logos using Paint Shop Pro. I often download templates made by others but unfortunately not all Photoshop files can be opened by PSP. In that case I try to make my own. This helps me learn new graphic techniques. I'm good at copying a style but I don't have the creativity to make unique new styles. Now I have to open PSP and figure out how to make inner beveled edges (as you've done on the home plate). |

Thanks for the feedback guys. Im going to test out 6 of the logos in OOTPX right now. If I like them, I'll work on the rest of the teams. If I don't.... well, i'll most likely tweak the style.
Update: I tried them in OOTP. They are nice looking, but the City Names are just too small and the Team Logos dont dominate well enough to carry the Logo. Especially on the pages that display the teams before the Rookie Draft. I think I have to pick either the Team Logos or the City names and make one dominate. Splitting it 50/50 or so doesnt work well enough imho. I think Micro has it right... everyone likes something different. I still havent come up with a style that I like well enough to use.

t_wil, i'll post one on Monday.
I'm going to play around with the style and see what I can come up with. I'm leaning toward centering the Homeplate and Team Logo and making them bigger, then making the city name smaller. I think they would work better with the Logo dominant. |

After some tweaking, I'm leaning towards changing from the first logo to the second:
![]() ![]() I'll have to test them out ingame to see how they scale. Last edited by Gern44; 11-02-2009 at 12:57 PM. Reason: formatting |

I like the first ones better as well, but they don't look good ingame. The smaller versions are just too busy and neither the Logo or the City stands out, imho.

The first version is very nice looking. Great "3D" look. But, as you found, at 150x150 you can't seen much in game (I mean this in general, not just for that logo style).
For the new version, you might want to remove the baseball from the background. At a larger size, that looks cool, but at smaller sizes, it's hard to tell what it is. Overall, nice work! It's always good to see new designs.

I havent had a chance to check out the new ones yet, but I'll keep an eye on how the baseball background looks, thanks much for the heads up.
Thats always one of the things I flip flop on... using it or not in any logos. For some of the logo colors it doesnt show at all, others its too strong. I'm going to test one with a subtle texture instead to see how it looks. EDIT: I removed the Baseball picture and added an 'old paper' texture that I doctored up a bit.

Hell yeah! These are great. I'm with spleen where if I played with real teams, I would use them.
