1987 Topps v1.0 tempate for OOTP11

Special note - I was planning on doing 1961 Topps next, however, I had so much done with the 1987 Topps card that I used as an example from my guide, that it felt like a lost opportunity not to finish it. The logo on the cards are smaller that what I would have liked, but it was necessary to prevent non-circular logos from spilling over the borders.

Download here: OOTP_1987_Topps_v1.0.zip

Instructions
1. Navigate to:
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 11\bb_cards (Win7/Vista)
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 11\bb_cards (WinXP)
2. Extract all folders within zip to bb_cards.
Contents
templates
This will overwrite your existing directory with the new template (example: 1987 Topps).
templates - Original
This contains the original templates that shipped with OOTP11.
templates - <cardname>
This contains backup files of the new template (example: templates - 1987 Topps v1.0).
3. [Special feature] Gum stains will randomly appear on some cards. If you want to remove the possibility of gum stains on your cards, simply delete the files titled horizontal_stain_*.png

4. [Special feature] This set will label the Pat Dodson, Tim Pyznarski, Dave Magadan, B.J. Surhoff, Rafael Palmeiro and Bo Jackson as Future Stars during 1987 only.

For Mac users: (thanks Flying Dutchmen)

Instructions
1. After downloading the file, it should automatically unzip into a folder with the same name in your Downloads folder.

2. Open the folder and copy (or drag) all of its contents to the folder bb_cards. Hit yes to replace the existing templates folder with the new one.

With a default install of OOTP, the bb_cards folder should be at:

\<username>\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 11\bb_cards

Great job. I was wondering why you hadn't released a 1987 with the tutorial stuff there.

Yeah, as you can see, I was wondering why I'd let that go to waste too.

I think one cool concept I've come up with are the special features. I was about to release without the Future Stars, when at the last minute at 1am, I decided to create a clean Future Stars logo overlay.

I like the concept, like the Washington Nat'l and the Future Stars here that someone could use this template for years and years of sims, then suddenly, something different happens. It's like seeing those once-a-decade type PBP texts.

Is is possible to manually edit the Future Stars tag to show up on any player you choose?

Yep - you've got a couple of options. Either leave the code alone and make a copy of the future stars image for each player you want it to appear on, named in the format: year_topps_firstname_lastname.png

OR

You could decide you want it to appear on all players who've played less than say 10 career games, in which case you'd need to copy the image 11 times and name them (say): toppsfuture_0.png , toppsfuture_1.png etc

and put these two lines of code in the default xml:

Code:
<ELEMENT type="image" x="0" y="0" zorder="90" content="toppsfuture_[%CAREER_G].png" />

<ELEMENT type="image" x="0" y="0" zorder="90" content="toppsfuture_[%CAREER_GP].png" />

Yeah, I added a Gold Glove logo, copied the default.xml, edited the code to look for my new image, replaced the normal 1974 default, and went and generated the cards for all the Gold Glove winners one-by-one. I think I could do the same for the Future Stars in this template. Just generate it on the guys I want, one-by-one.

On a side note, we really need a 'generate cards' button. I want to generate the cards with a converted league.

Wow, using the games is a pretty good idea. It has some drawbacks since cards are generated automatically for the All Star team - this could only ever apply to cards generated by the "New" card button. An excellent way to make use of the tools we currently have. My compliments since I'm sure you've seen how much I've worked with the cards - and I hadn't thought of that yet.

I've been asking Andreas for some events based on the Top 100 prospects list (among other things) that would be perfect for a Rated Rookie or Future Star card. So these graphics are partially in anticipation of this.

Thanks - I used a similar trick to do my own Rookie Cards. I don't have an all-star game in my league, so I generate all my cards on the New Card button anyway. Actually got the idea from your gum stains using season stats as a sort of random number generator!

Blast, that is kinda ugly. I'm not sure what to do with that. Right now we have such a limited set of fonts to use. If you have the time, change the XML so the "commando" and "college" fonts so they are now "vera". Really, it's about the font set having the required characters, which "commando" obviously lacks.

Unfortunately, "commando" and "college" were a bit of a stretch to be true to the original card. "Vera" will be moreso.

OK, I cant get these to work. I extracted into the file as per readme but when creating a card in OOTP it just gives me the default card that looks like 1990 Upper Deck. What am I doing wrong?

If I had to guess without having access to your computer, it sounds like you've copied the files into the "Templates" directory, but didn't overwrite the old default.xml, all_star.xml and hof.xml files files.

If the old files weren't overwritten, default.xml et al will still tell OOTP to create the generic cards and point to the old generic graphics.

I saw your post in the main forum, and I saw that you had Vista or Win7. About the only thing I loathe about Win7 over XP is that the "do you want to overwrite" dialog that pops up when you have duplicate filenames is so massive and wordy and has such big honkin buttons, I'm often accidentally keeping the old files rather then overwriting with the new ones.

If that doesn't work, consider zipping up that entire directory Template directory so you email it to me later. I'm curious to see what the issue could be. Then after you've done that, simply delete the entire Template folder and then unpack the zip file again. When it recreates the Template directory from scratch, OOTP will have no choice but to create an 87 Topps card.

Just downloaded these to try. Nice work! I really like the finished product. '87 Topps has always been one of my all-time favorites.

Anybody know why the hair doesn't show? I noticed it happens with any card, not just these templates.
