Baseball Card Request
Out of all the great Topps cards, I feel that the 1977 baseball set is the best, yet as of now we don't have it for OOTP. Is it possible that one of you baseball card guru's can make it happen? If you could I for one would be very grateful.

A couple things pop up at first. I don't think we can do diagonal text for the position, nor do I think we can do italics for the team name. But someone could do a reasonable facsimile working around those issues.

The position text and flag could be handled with having a different image overlay on that part of the card based on the player's listed position - prior designs have used similar techniques.
The italized text is more difficult, but the italics is not that pronounced on the card so it may look okay without the formatting. The thing that makes these cards so cool is the action photos. I am not sure the same effect will be achieved with the headshots from OOTP.

Totally agree that the action photos really help push this set over the top, but even the plain cards like this Ron Guidry still look great simply because the card was just so well executed.

Quick try at it. It would switch between the 6 flag colors randomly. Doing the team names based on team color can be done except a team that uses white would be hard to see. A single color for all cards could be done instead. The All-Star card has the label at the bottom of the player pic area and I believe I saw a trophy on one of the cards when I was looking, that could be the award card with the award name maybe on the back below the stats.

That really looks good, personally I would like to see the different colors for the different teams, but thats just me. As for the small trophy, that was for the Topps all-star rookies.

Isn't it possible to outline words? I thought I saw someone do that before. If so you could have the team name work with team colors because even if the main color is white it would be outlined.
I'd even go with a bigger font for the team name too. |

I was actually just ready to suggest that, because if you notice the real card, all the teams are outlined in black then filled in.

I love '77 Topps. It was the first older set I tried to put together as a baseball card collector growing up, although I never put forth the effort to finish it. This set should be fairly easy to recreate reasonably with OOTP.
To get the position flags, use a separate image for each position. Italics are out, but to get outlined text, you just overlay the team name several times in slightly different positions with the appropriate color at each position.

Thanks cephasjames and fhomess, I think I got the text outline correct, how does it look
![]() ![]() I can do the flags with full positions later tonight, I still have everything in separate layers so it shouldn't take too long. The pitcher stats still need to be adjusted as well. |

One question I have is about the A's, will the game be able to deal with the apostrophe? Or will they have to be the Athletics.

Well, it's going to give you what team name is defined in the League Setup. If OOTP allows A's, then I would think it would print A's fine.

Got an early start and finished the flags quicker than I thought. There are 6 flag colors - blue, green, light green, orange, red and yellow and each has the correct text color associated with it. The stats have been adjusted and there are 10 cartoons for the back.
