GIMP Logo, Ballcap & Jersey Tutorial?
Hi,
I've found templates and tutorials based on both PSP and Photoshop on the site, but is there a GIMP-specific tutorial on how to: - Create Ballcaps & Jerseys? - Utilize Layers and Masks specifically within GIMP? - Especially copying and pasting layers from the templates into a new template for GIMP to use as a base and then build on that specifically within GIMP? Trying to adapt the non-GIMP tutorials (especially for a newb) is challenging, bordering on frustrating. Any help, so I can create a few custom jerseys and caps for fun, would be huge. |

I use PSP myself but I learned by finding tutorials on the internet. The PSP and PS tutorials for OOTP will still help you with the caps and jerseys. The internet will help with the basics and beyond. Use Google and search for 'gimp tutorial' or try YouTube. There are some GIMP users here that can help with specific questions.

After reviewing some YouTube material and some tutorials from the actual GIMP website, I quickly pieced together my own little checklist of things to do to develop a first set of VERY basic Ballcaps and Jerseys in GIMP.
Thought I might share the Ballcaps list. This is truly a work in progress, but produced some cool results. I'm still perfecting the use of a shading layer on both the ballcaps and, more importantly, the jerseys, but that will come quickly I'm sure. Feel free to add to, amend, correct the following: 1) Develop a LAYERS template with the basic elements white on black background 512x512.
3) When you begin the creation of a CAP graphic PNG file, open the template file and save it immediately as the filename you want then work on that file and leave the template alone.
6) To drop in the logo of your team on the ballcap.
8) Save the file as your PNG file (it will suggest that you export all the files as a merged file, which seemed fine) and give it the proper OOTP name structure and you have yourself a BALLCAP! Jerseys are pretty much the same thing. Plus you can create a new layer and COPY VISIBLE from other files you've found (for PSP or Photoshop) and try to plug them into GIMP to make things easier on yourself. All of this discovery took about a day and a half, off-and-on, to figure out. I'm sure I will get much better as I discover more about the program. Hope this helps?? |

There are jersey and cap templates on padrefans site. I think it's called jersey and cap templates 3.0.
This is a good place to start.

Help
Trying my hand at trying to create jerseys using Deft & No Peppers custom jersey and cap templates. I'm struggling with figuring out how to make a jersey the color I want and jersey scripts. I'm trying add layer mask & or new layer but feel like I'm missing something. Also tried bucket fill tool but can't get the color to show. Would really appreciate some input on colors and jersey scripts.

GIMP is pretty well documented, here's their section on layer modes: 2.*Layer Modes |

In the new GIMP (2.8), the layer modes are toward the upper right corner, above the list of layers and underneath the Layers / Channels / Paths tabs. To apply a layer style, just select textured layer, and then click the down arrow on the right side near where it probably says "Mode: Normal." That should bring up a pull-down menu of available layer styles.
Playing around with a little test file, it looks like "Multiply," "Darken Only" and :Value" all produce similar results: |

Thanks so much for the visuals. I got it to work with a template that is all white (can't remember who made it). Couldn't figure out how to work it on Deft & No pepper's template but I'm okay with that for now. I hopefully can figure out some basic stripes on my own. I found this link for scripts that you created: Those fonts. From that link. How do I use them so that I can place on jersey? Gimp? MS Word? Thanks again, you've been extremely helpful. edit: Think I figured out the font. Getting it to look good is a different story. Last edited by GiantYankee; 09-26-2012 at 11:14 PM. |

And also, how do you get a script to "curve" on the front of a jersey?

Cephasjames has suggested the following for scripts: Try Filters > Distorts > Curve Bend. Create the text first, then select it, then do that. See if that works. Last edited by GiantYankee; 02-10-2013 at 08:07 PM. |

There are so many generous people contributing content for this great game, and one can sometimes feel a bit guilty just using their work without giving anything back.

Instructions 1 Create a curved path with the path tool. 2 Select the text tool and type the text you want. You can type it anywhere in the image space. Then highlight it and set the font, size and alignment in the setting section below the toolbar. 3 Click the "Text Along Path" button below the text settings. You will see an outline of the text with the baseline sitting on your path. Note that if your text is too long for the path, it will look crooked or overlap. The best way to fix this is to delete everything and start again, making the path a bit longer or the text a bit smaller. 4 Click the "Path to Selection" button at the bottom of the Path dialog window. 5 Go to the Layer dialog and create a new layer, making sure that the selection you just created is still active. 6 Click the foreground color chooser to choose a color to fill your text with. 7 Select the paint bucket (fill) tool. Then click anywhere within the text selection. You might have to zoom in using the magnifying glass tool to be able to see it well enough. This will fill your selection with the color you chose. 8 Delete the original text layer in the layer dialog window, since you no longer need it.

I feel the same way. I get tired of asking these great contributors for help all of the time and can't put together a decent jersey myself.
