This provides a road map for the minor league affiliation changes occurring this offseason. 20 teams are getting new MLB affiliates.

Tracking The Affiliation Shuffle - BaseballAmerica.com

No news yet about uniform changes, but these are the MiLB teams that are most likely to get new uniforms/logos.

Wow, South Bend went from something unique to something generic. I thought the days of lazy "give your minor league team the same name as the parent club" thinking were over. Leave it to the Shlubs to be a throwback to caveman days.

Granted, the Cards aren't much better...everything is "Redbirds", which is only a minor adjustment. I'm not saying we need stupid names like "Rubber Ducks" or "Chihuahuas", but come on, a little imagination doesn't hurt.

most of the time, if the parent organization owns the affiliate, they will go the generic route at times (see Red Sox, Braves, Yankees)

As someone who lives near and regularly attends South Bend games, I am not at all pleased with this nickname change. "Silver Hawks" has a very thick tie to South Bend because of the Studebaker Silver Hawk built in South Bend. But now the South Bend team will lose that tie because of the Cubs.

Hopefully, enough fans will crap all over it that they'll come to their senses and reverse their decision. I'd think money-making considerations alone would come into play. If people want Cubs stuff, they'd just buy CHICAGO Cubs stuff, not the minor league team's with the exact same unis and logo. Silver Hawks, though...there's only one place to buy that.

Dumb, dumb move...but then, the Cubs have been making dumb moves for over a century now, so what else is new?

The smartest move, financially and to keep the locals happy, would be to keep Silver Hawks, and just Cub-ify the logo and colors, like they did with Knoxville. You keep everybody happy, AND sell new merch.

As someone who regularly attends Smokies games, I love the new uniform options for them! They did those up right.

Where did you find this info? According to this, that wasn't one of the six name finalists.

Still, unless there's a huge influx of "write in" votes, they won't be the Biloxi Brewers
