Primary vs. Secondary Logos
Observation on logos...not really a mod related post, but sort of. For anyone who makes, uses, or is interested in logos..
Do you find secondary logos in baseball to me so much more sharp and appealing than the primary ones? For most teams/organizations, I find this to be the base. I mean, here's an example of what I mean: |

It seems to be that baseball teams try to "force" the team name into the logo, while football and basketball teams just allow for the standalone logo, which is much simpler, but also cleaner, and recognizable. Some of the script, wordy logos also don't look good much of the time because they are so small and grainy.

Secondary logos if they are simple show up much better in OOTPB. I found this out with my Southern Association league... my primary logos did not look good as secondary logos, so I just made simple single or double-letter logos and they greatly improved the graphics in my game. Also simple primary logos also look better in the game... complex, fancy logos will look good at 300x300 pixels, but not at 150x150... and certainly not smaller as is the case of the secondary logos. The primary logos shown on the left screenshot look fine at 150x150, but not as the smaller secondary sizes. Note: a white or light-colored background shows up better for secondary logos... a white or light border also looks better most of the time when it is placed on a dark gray background on OOTPB screens. On the left is a screenshot of my secondary logos BEFORE I recreated them... on the right is AFTER... the new logos are obviously easier to read and see. Seems to me that most secondary logos in sports end up being used for smaller logos (scorebugs on ESPN and sports website scoreboards) and thus have a design that's more simple so they can shrink down and still be legible. In a lot of cases, the simplicity makes the secondary logos look better regardless of the size.

like adding blue to the edges of the Mets logo adding black to the Giants... and adding navy blue to the Tigers since i use the dark background for my games, i needed to outline the logos so that they could be seen better on certain pages.

I like to use my MLB Network-style logos for the primary and keep the secondary as they are. Since I tend to use the same logo as the secondary logo in my primary, I guess what I'm saying is that I agree with you, Colonel.

however...I have just discovered I can create near perfect detail primary MLB logos using colorwerx as my source. Really quality vector images. The issue of course, is minor league and international images....there just isn't a good source for them. Here are some examples of what I can do with colorwerx:

I normally change the primary logo to the secondary logo for similar reasons. I also create other secondary logos not included in the game.

Chris Creamer's logos include minor leagues, although a number of teams are not up to date. Just straight googling and you will find just about anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
