Revised Canadian Cities and Nations

One of the things I noticed about Canadian data was that the game will pull names similar to how they are distributed in real life but this does not reflect the baseball population in Canada very well where Quebecois players are disproportionately rare compared to Quebec population while BC players are disproportionately large compared to BC population. I've edited both the cities and nations files accordingly to get a predominant amount of players from BC and southern ontario and a smattering from elsewhere. I have revised the cities population to achieve this effect so populations will be off slightly but I am not sure this mmaters within the context of playing the game.

Anyone interested in this?

Here's my edited Canadian line of the nations file:

36,Canada,Canada,CAN,Canadian,4,5,32,80,33,20,,

The Chinese % was gotten rid of completely, the English increased from 65 to 80 and the French decreased from 30 to 20.

Default:

36,Canada,Canada,CAN,Canadian,4,5,32,65,33,30,4,5

I'm curious what %s others use. I agree with DE that there should be less Quebecuers and more BCers, but I just pulled my 80/20 out of the air.

As for the cities population, I think that only effects what cities are chosen randomly and I'd change them anyway so I don't much care about that file. I guess, now, that it also effects birthplaces of players, but I'm not that picky.

The problem I found for me was that you end up with too many players from Quebec (which isn't realistic) and then if you reduce the french names, you get too many anglophones from Quebec (which also isn't realistic). Anyways, its just bothered me so now the file should have predominantly Ontario and BC players with a smattering from other provinces.

I kept some of the Chinese in (I think I set it at 8%) simply because there are numerous Asians in Toronto and especially in BC. The only unrealistic things is that the Chinese names have Chinese first names when you would likely see a Canadian Born Chinese person having a North American name.

But I figure if a certain player gets good enough in my league, I can always edit his name anyways.

I myself am in the process of creating a new Canadian cities file. It will be similar to Jeff Evans' "U. S. cities file" and "14000 small town mod" in that every Canadian census subdivision with a population (not just the ones with over 1,000 residents) will be listed—all the way down to the Indian reserves and the unorganized communities.
