Okay, Mike D. I see what you did. You just used the sample files that I used for my test as the actual database. You need to run through the Macros and recreate your own new database the first time and export the files to the csv files. If you want to use this dataset then you could simply export the files listed in the read me to csv files and overwrite the files in the sample database.

I noticed that I missed this in the read me, but export as Text. Click on the document in the Random Debut Folder that your are replacing. Example New_Batting is exported into Batting.csv. Select Batting.CSV then for text qualifier select {none}. This overwrites the previously saved files. The version I put out I did not re-export the files after the last test with the Macros, so the csv files do not match the tables, except for the master.

These are the files that need to be exported after running step3Macro:

New_Batting to Batting.csv
New_Pitching to Pitching.csv
New_FieldingOF to FieldingOF.csv
New_Fielding to Fielding.csv
New_Master to Master.csv

In the future I plan on making this an actual VB program but for now the Macro system will need to do.

BTW, if you cannot run the macros on your system and just need random debut files, I can make some and post them somewhere....

I have new versions with the test data matching the database if anyone wants them. 26MB in Zip, 20mb in Rar.

Ok, thanks I found it.

I thought I did this, but I guess I'm still having problems. Anyway you can just create a set of random debut files for me, that would be great because as cool as it sounds, I'm not having any success with them at all.

http://www.allsimbaseball.com/index....fileinfo&id=16

I have two database created, but I would hope that the utility would work for everyone.

The importants steps are:

After running Macro1 and Macro2 to then go to the get external data and import the newdebut.xls worksheet into the newdebut table, making sure to set the text qualifier as {none}. Then to run Macro3 and export the new-batting, new_pitching, new_fielding, new_fieldingOF and new_master table to the batting, pitching, fielding, fieldingof and master.csv files. You must export these as text with the text qualifier as {none} overwriting the files in your randomdebut folder (C:\randomdebut\randomdebut\******.csv) where the ******* is the file name.

I hope that this is not confusing because it is rather cool to get your own random database at anytime, knowing that you will never have to duplicate the database.

Cheers

With Regards,

Steve

I'm going to give it another shot this weekend, but I appreciate the upload. Thanks for all your hard work on this. One question. If I change the debut year to 2001 for all players in the newdebut.xls, when I import it, will it change all the other xls files to 2001 too? I'm trying to do an entire league with just players born in Illinois, but I can't change all the batters and fielding xls files becasue Excel only opens so many lines and I have no idea how to create a macro to do it for me in access. Again, thanks for all your hard work on this. The Mod community is great because of people like you.

To get a database of all players from Illinois just use the birth state field in the master table/database. Open in Excel or Access and do either one of the following:

In Access create a delete query deleting all records not ILLINOIS in the birth state field. In Excel do a sort by Birth State and then delete all the records above and below the Illinois records. Then just export/or save as text document. Copy the contents into the master.csv file.

You do not need to worry about the fielding, batting or pitching records in the database. The game goes off of the Master.csv file.

You can then use this master file to create your own random debut database with only the players from Illinois!!!

To get all the players to have debut year in 2001 (that is over 16000 players you know), then open the newdeb change every debut to 2001. Then simply run the 3rd macro. After this is done, export the new_tables to their correct csv tables in the random debut folder. You will not get any new rookies after that though.....

The way the Random Debut is setup is pretty much to start in 1901 and play through with year 2007 having the last draft..... but you can change it to your liking either through the newdebut worksheet or the newdebut tables and the Access Macros.

Regards,

Steve

I tried doing the Illinois thing above regarding the deleting everyone that wasn't from Illinois, and I changed the debut year to 2001 of everyone left, but since I couldn't change the batting or fielding, only the players that actually played in 2001 from Illinois was being imported, so only like 55 players total. That's why I wanted to change the batting and fielding, but couldn't open them. I will try and do it the way you suggested and see if that works. Again, thanks for all your help.

Just wondering if this is possible... is there a way to hand pick certain players and have them assigned random debuts? I would like to hand pick roughly a dozen players from each decade and have them randomly debut(mixed in with fictional players) as my league progresses. Anyone have any ideas on how I can achieve this?

Thanks.

Sandman,
Can this be tweeked to give us better control and ease of database use? For example, I'd like to import all 1871-1900 players into a 1901 league and then run normal history from there. A grand "What if" scenario. Also I'd like to adjust all players to debut around age 17-20. What do you think? There are infinite things that could be tried. Nice work overall, thanks!

Sandman-

When you select the text qualifier to none, i t treats multiple nicknames as comma delimited, threrefore corrupting the master file I think... could this be true?

Regardless, as I PMed to you as well, I cannot for the life of me get more than 250 or so in my inaugural draft. I'd assume that a player or two would maybe retire or go away after a year or two, but not 400.

Would you suggest that I check or uncheck the "Change ratings each year to be based on real life?"

I'm downloading one of your randomized files now to see if I get a better response from them.
