Working on getting someone to roll the date back so we can keep the pool, but until then, if you want to make changes like for the Rule 5, you can make them after the current season is completed (the Rule 5 wouldn't be until Dec. 2008 anyway)

Ok, I'm using version 2.1 and I'm seeing a disturbing trend. Some big name players seem to go unsigned during free agency. Others end up having strange things happen to them.
In my current franchise, I'm running the Yanks. It's almost the trade deadline in 2010 and I'm looking to see who's available. Alfonso Soriano has been on the block for 2 seasons, but nobody has traded for him, and it made me curious. Was I shocked to find that he spent last year in AAA and is currently in rookie ball! Alfonso Soriano in rookie ball, at age 34? Is this a case of the Cubbies mis-managing him, or could there be rating problem? Here's a pic: ImageShack - Hosting :: sorianonz9.jpg |

Let me try some tests tonight to see if anything like that happens to me, could just be a freak thing. EDIT: Are you sure you're using my set? I'm looking at Soriano weighing 180 pounds in mine, not 188 like on that roster screen (unless players can gain weight?) Last edited by CubbyFan23; 07-24-2008 at 10:18 PM. |

It could also just be a game issue. The game has a lot of players at that age drop off the face of the earth ratings wise. I had Jay Bruce win 3 strainght MVPs and then was down in AA the following season as his ratings tumbled to crap.

Secondly, regarding Soriano not having an OF rating, I've actually seen this on a number of players, both in your roster and in the default rosters that came with the game. I had a draft choice in my very first game with OOTP9 with the default rosters whose position was "1B", but he had no infield ratings at all. And even if I edited him to add them, they still didn't show up. |

I have seen player fielding ratings not showing up before to. In the last league I was playing I had an outfielder that was winning gold gloves and mvp's and then one year he had no fielding ratings. This was not in a roster set but a fictional league. The weird thing is that my manager would put him in the outfield even with out any ratings, almost like they are invisible to us.
On a side note, cubby do you know if you have any problems in your set with relievers become put in the starting rotation? This problem is really bugging me in fictional leagues and might make me abandon fictional leagues for now.

I've noticed this- if a relievers endurance is high enough and he's rated higher than some of the listed starters, the AI will put him in the rotation. If a guy is supposed to just be a reliever, you have to knock his endurance way down, otherwise the AI will assume he is a Miguel Batista type pitcher who can start and relieve. I remember seeing another post on this and it said the endurance needed to be a quality starter is actually relatively low compared to what you would probably expect it to be.

I didn't know about this problem, if someone can detail it I'll drop pitcher endurances down. Right now, most guys are around 20 on a 1-100 scale, with long relievers at a 30.
Starters are 50 or higher as that's usually what the game uses, but maybe that's changing now? |

On a side note, that leads me into another goal for the set (and the game I suppose).
It seems that too many guys are only able to play the infield or outfield if they don't have a rating at the other. For example, Soriano SHOULD be able to have a rating at shortstop. If a team wanted to play him there in real life, they would be able to (although he would be very bad). In the current game, most guys like this will have a great outfield rating, and infield ratings worse than guys like David Ortiz. That doesn't seem right to me. Guys should be able to move positions freely, although they might not be close to as good at others as they are at their current one. Does that make any sense? |

What I have read is that lower endurance won't matter, guys with low 30 endurance could still be in the rotation. I guess the new endurance system is the reason for this but to me its a bug. I really don't think the league is full of ppl that are like Smoltz and can go back and forth.

Really appreciate all the work you guys are putting into this. If you have an ETA on this, it would be awesome. Still torn on whether to start going now or wait till 2.5. I do tire of baseball a bit after the season ends, so if the rosters are going to be still in the works until September or something, I'll probably just get started right now with 2.2.
Thanks again. |

Yeah, planning on doing coaches eventually, if anyone wants to work on that we can work simultaneously.
clamel you're a life saver with these edits, keep 'em coming as you see them! I have no idea on an ETA, but if I can hurry up, I would say 1-2 weeks. I really think its worth waiting for, for those of you waiting. There's a lot of really good players in AA who will impact the majors this year or next who weren't on a top prospect list at the beginning of the year that will at least get some shine vs. being completely roster fillers for the lower minors. There are about 150 guys that I've updated to be in the right opening day uniform that I'll put out with the update, when the draft picks are finished.

Big problem is of course with players having 100% identical names. I got this for you to examine. Rich Thompson in Angels as a pitcher. Wrong picture so I add his picture. So the other picture belongs to the retired OF Rich Charles Thomspn, who isnīt retired at all. He is playing in Philly minors. Have a look The Angels guy Rich Thompson Stats, Bio, Photos, Highlights | AngelsBaseball.com: Team and then this unretired Richard Charles, born 1979 (he was on DBacks after the KC picture) Rich Thompson Stats, Bio, Photos, Highlights | MLB.com: Team Rich Thompson Statistics (Minor Leagues) - Baseball-Reference.com Unretire Rich Charles and perhaps name him Rich C Thompson, then fixed Many more similar things (like the devestating Francisco Rodriguez, TWO of them in Angels) |
