2008 Historical Replay League Roster Project (need suggestions)

I am looking to put together a historical replay sim league next year, and this October or so I want to build a database using Access that will best replicate 2008 player performance within OOTP. (I'm thinking of the league as being somewhat similar to a Diamond Mind replay league) I am not concerned about importing any past history/stats. I just want the OOTP engine to rate players based on their 2008 stat lines.

How should I go about doing this? I don't want to wait for later winter, when Lahman issues their annual update. Can I simply create batting, fielding, pitching, and master databases in the Lahman format, convert those to csv, and then load them into the game? I guess what I am asking for is some tips on building a database for the game from scratch. If I am only concerned about the 2008 info, what files do I need to edit?
