I think one problem this creates is that for guys who COULD potentially move, they cannot because they have a 1/1/1/1 across the board. Jeter's a good example, I've read talk about him moving to CF once his range diminishes further at SS, but currently that isn't possible in the game with his outfield ranges/arm/etc. so low.

That being said, I don't want to make it too easy to move guys around and speculate myself on how well a player would play at another position. Anyone have thoughts on this?

I wouldnt mess around with it too much cubby. It seems the computer AI wants to start playing guys with low ratings all over the place when they are able to such as Victor Martinez starting a lot of the year at second base for the Brewers in my current league. It seems the more chances the AI have to mess up the more they will

Give ratings to outfield range, arm, etc. but not to any outfield position. (So for Jeter, he might have a good glove and arm in the OF, but his range might be questionable for CF). There's a reason players need to learn new positions in the minors or spring training. The new "force start" option helps in training new positions.

I hated the dreaded "1" in any category. It's a prospect killah as far as I'm concerned.

So it's been a while since I've downloaded rosters so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I downloaded the rosters...opened the zip file and copied the file to the saved_games folder in my documents.

When I try to load the .lg file this message comes up.

"DATABASE::create_random_team_logo - could not save logo!"

About 25% of the league had been loaded but when I click "ok" it totally exits out of the game.

Can anyone help me out?

@Impossible2Refute:
Have you installed the latest patch?
That could solve your problem.

@Ratings:
I think players should have fielding ratings for in- and outfield.
It would be great for prospects and aging players.

Cubby I agree with jbergey - I wouldn't spend too much time on it.

just for fun, here's 3 position players who have made appearances on the mound

1) Tony Pena Jr. (Royals SS): velocity = 88-90 mph . pitches: fastball, slider
2) Scott Spiezio (free agent utility player): velocity = 83-85 mph. pitches: fastball, slider
3) Aaron Miles (free agent 2B): velocity = 72-74 mph. pitches: fastball, curveball

on a more serious note, here are some fielding data for Orioles players.

1) Adam Jones played shortstop in the low minors - his fielding data (if that helps you make ratings at all) are 459 PO, 668 A, 66 E, 140 DP, .945 FP, 4.60 RFg. this is only if you care about making OF ratings for infielders and vice versa.
2) Oscar Salazar is listed on the MLB.com depth chart as the backup SS, so I think you should give him sufficient "experience" at that position.
3) Lou Montanez was also a shortstop in the low minors - his fielding data at SS are 206 PO, 334 A, 43 E, 64 DP, .926 FP, 4.03 RFg (he also played an equal amount of 2B if that matters)
4) Mike Costanzo was given time last season at catcher - I read an interview where he said he was legitimately being considered as an emergency catcher. maybe you should give him ratings for catcher ability and arm (or maybe not).

Hey Cubby, if you are going to do this, then most players should have the ability to play 1b

Not that most of the players are any good, but you have the St. Lucie Mets (A, FSL) as a Yankees farm team, and then the following players that would have been on St. Lucie are dispersed between the Yankees other farm teams, while St Lucie is left empty. I filtered through and found the guys who belong on St. Lucie (or at least the Mets farm). Listed is the team they are currently on, along with the level of that team.

Scranton (AAA)-
Nick Abel

Trenton (AA)-
German Marte
Luis Rivera
Brahiam Maldonado
Victor Mendez

Tampa (A)
Nick Carr
Ryan Coultas
Emary Frederick
Nicholas Waechter
Eric Niesen
Hector Pellot
D.J. Wabick

Staten Island (SS A)-
Angel Calero
Scott Moviel
Julio Polanco
Josh Stinson
Wilkins de la Rosa
Ruben Tejada
Joe Holden
Jason Jacobs

GCL Yankees (R)
Jose Bierd
Maikel Cleto
Josh Thole
Greg Veloz
Jacob Eigsti
Ezequiel Carrera
Lucas Duda

The Yankees also have a few misspelled names...Chris Vacek is supposed to be Chace, Collin Curtis is supposed to be Colin. Not to nitpick or anything, just things I noticed while filtering through those players and figured I'd point out. Probably no big deal because they aren't good anyway.

First of all, my deepest thanks to Cubbyfan - I've been using your rosters for years, dating back at least to OOTP 6.

This isn't a big deal, but looking over the Orioles, I'm seeing that four of their top 20 prospects according to John Sickels aren't present at all (LJ Hoes, 2b; Xavier Avery, OF; Caleb Joseph, C; and Oliver Drake RHP) and a fifth, Ryan Adams, is listed as a 1b rather than as a 2b. These are things I can fix myself, but while I haven't checked yet, I'm guessing that you haven't singled out the Orioles and there may be top 20 prospects missing from each club. For myself, this is a much bigger problem than making sure that players have the correct jersey numbers or can move to the OF later in their careers.

Finally, for myself at least, the aforementioned DFA problem for several prospects with ML deals is a significant game play issue, since none of those players are pulled back if claimed and all are released if not claimed. I've gone through and edited the rosters of each team to prevent this from happening, but I just wanted to point this out since it is if nothing else a time consuming problem to correct.

Again, Cubbyfan, my deepest thanks for all your hard work which has added so much to my enjoyment of the game for the last several years. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you.

Edited to add: I realize you have been going through the minors since the v0.1 release, so this issue may have been fixed. And to repeat myself, if I can be of any assistance with the lower end prospects in particular, I'm at your disposal.

Jay -- since all of the minor league players have been re-rated, I've noticed it's worked itself out in terms of prospects most of the time. In addition, although I'm not adding the entire slate of missing players for this release, I am adding any prospects missing on rosters that are either on BA/BP/Sickel's lists.

Minor league re-rates are going to be done this weekend, whether or not it comes out this weekend is a matter of how long it takes to clean up a few of the other things like the Yankees missing history, etc.

Hey Cubby, great job on the rosters! I've noticed a few things that I wanted to make sure that you knew about....

1. You forgot the Mike Jacobs for Leo Nunez trade during your first release

2. You had Josh Anderson (CF, Atlanta Braves) as retired without his stats filled in from 2008.

3. You had John Smoltz down as being injured through like June of 2009. He will be ready to go by ST.

thanks for all of the hard work you are putting into it! I can't wait for the next release!!!

Pretty sure he's out until June/July at the earliest...

Perhaps, someone already brought this up, but I didn't see the draft picks from the '07 Draft, like Tim Beckham to the Rays, Gordon Beckham to the White Sox, things like that..

His agents have at least been suggesting he'll be ready for the start of the season anyway. Red Sox intrigued by Smoltz | MLB.com: News
In this article, his agent says: "We just want everybody to know that he's healthy and throwing well."

An ESPN Insider blog adds: "John Smoltz wants to come back for another season. He is throwing and thinks he will be ready early next season."

I think we will have to wait until Opening day to know if he's going to be rdy. The good thing is that if he is injured on the roster set he won't get signed right away. So when he does sign we can update it ourselves.

I think you mean 2008 draft, but those guys you mentioned are in the set. All of the first round picks are including the Beckhams, Hosmer, Alvarez, etc. The other picks and new players in 2008 are going to be added in later.

Anyone have any ideas where I can find LHB/RHB park factors for MLB parks? I can find general ones, but I'm sure there's a difference for LHB/RHB in Yankee Stadium (the old one anyway) for instance, but I can't find splits anywhere. Any help?

You can find park factors for LH and RH from the 2008 Bill James Handbook here:
