Always interesting to see what records are established since most players spend at least some time within the 1st Division. And of course some Greats spend a lot of time there, preventing them from reaching the Premier Hall of Fame. How many ties have you come across? And how did the tie-breakers work out? Any 3-way ties? Did the jersey & colors, etc come in ok with the expansion teams, and the expansion draft went smoothly? How did Satchel Paige & Oscar Charleston do, or the Japanese Greats? thanks!

All the drafts and jerseys and logos came through fine, although sometimes I'd miss something and forget to name the Mets the New York (M) Mets and then wonder where the logo went. The computer hates 70 and 80s stars. Palmer, Hunter, Morgan, Rose, Rice, Fisk, Robinson, et al. all had mediocre careers. I wonder why? The only player of the era to make the Hall of Fame is Tom Seaver. Mattingly tore up the league tho. The Japanese players have been mediocre at best, with Oh being the best, hitting .280 and 241 homers. Even tho I live in Japan, I don't really like them mixed in. Not sure why. I just have a hard time with Japanese names I guess. I can't remember the names of 75% of my friends . (and since most are my wife's co-workers, I can't get away with shortened nicknames)Satch and Josh Gibson both had hall of fame careers. Paige went 232-177 with a 3.12 era and a 1.25 whip. Not that much of a workhorse or K pitcher, tho. Gibson hit .290 with 532 home runs. I've simmed up to 1990 so far. The Philadelphia A's won 3 in a row 73-75, then oakland won 3 in a row in 85-86. Toronto was the last expansion team to climb out of the 1st division in 1989. I took over a team in 1984 but i didn't like the era settings. I'm trying to decide whether i will sim to 1998, 2000 or 2009 and take over a team. Tom

I missed Oscar Charleston. Solid, but unspectacular. .292, 290 home runs 282 stolen bases.

Some other interesting stuff.
A GLUT of middle relievers in the minors now in 2000. Pedro Martinez is a one pitch, 100 stamina closer. Mark McGwire is the Home Run champ now, with 752 homers and still going. He also holds the single season record with 82. Sosa has had 47 homers twice but has been otherwise unspectacular. Bonds has been solid but doesn't look like a hall of famer, but he could finish strong like he did in real life. Clemens was good, then had an amazing 1990 then became awful with his era never going under 4.50 again. The best pitcher of this era is Bret Saberhagen and Dwight Gooden, but they both had pretty high lifetime ERAs and didn't get to 200 wins (but close). The game seems to hate pitchers past 1960. I may take what I have learned from this and start a fictional league starting in 2009 and simming 50 years or so. Playing with real players with OOTP has always led to frustration once I see my favorite players out of whack (Tiant, Palmer, Petrocelli for instance). But that's the engine. This was a FANTASTIC set-up, pbar. Thanks for the hours of fun and the learning experience. I may change my mind and take over in 2000 or 2009 and just sim into eternity. I'm off for a weekend vacation, so I will plan where I will take OOTP10 in the future. Tom

Dang it...
I've been waffling on whether or not to buy OOTPX...
I mean, I play online leagues with 9, and I love 9, and there's the issue of having to use PayPal for X for the Mac... Then today I get a letter saying it's on sale... Then I read this thread. Tell Markus he owes you a cut...I'm off to buy OOTPX just so I can do this. Zep |

Just want to say thank you, as this looks like a fascinating way to play. I have been mulling for a week now what kind of league to start up, and then I saw this.
Quick question...I noticed that some folks here have mentioned "the first team since 1989 to climb out of the 1st Division", as if it doesn't happen every year? Would a team not climb out of that division every year according to the league rules? Just curious! Thanks again! |

Hey pbar25,
I enjoyed playing around with this file a lot! But I got uninterested when in the post-60's play, there were less and less quality starters and a TON of middle relievers. Thanks to this thread I know what the problem was. Once the fix for it comes out, I'm going to try again! Tom

With the new patch out, I thought I'd give this database a new chance.
At the end of the 1910 season, I thought I'd take a look and see how some players were doing. Unless they were there at the beginning of 1903, they weren't there. For some reason, the game is using fictional rookies instead of importing historical players. I've checked the options and database path and they look fine. I'm talking about the Spritze DB that is necessary for use in this quickstart. Just to be safe, I deleted it and downloaded it again, started the league from scratch several times and also checked that historical rookie imports worked during a normal game (they do). Any ideas on what could be going wrong? I'd really like to give this another go. Thanks, Tom

The new uni.csv included in the patch is now required for any db including the Lahman db to import. You will find a copy in the data/stats folder of the OOTP game. Copy that to where you store the regulation league csv's and you will be golden.

Is there anything else I should move into the folder? Say, for the historical pitches...
Thanks, Tom

So I've updated the database for this quick-start in order to reflect his changes. Was too big to send to Padre Fan's website.

Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire
I updated the database that is supposed to go with the Premier League Quickstart, as Spritze amazingly updated his database to 10.4. The 1903 Quickstart still works the same, so the 6.7MB file can remain as is with the description. If it's possible it would be awesome if the HERE button within the template section for my quickstart at PadreFans website was switched to this database. (and the current DB under the HERE button can be deleted, no longer needed) This is Spritze's 10.4 Database, but switched around so players will appear within separate leagues if the amateur draft is enabled, and also allows for both leagues to use the historical progression/recalc options if intended.

I'm still missing something in the setting up of the league.
Do both leagues (PL and 1st Div) both point to the same database?
