Historical injuries mod
I've modified the default injuries.txt file, to fit better with historical leagues. Only injury names and descriptions have changed; durations, and all other categorization and data, remain the same as in the default file.
My intent was to make the injuries sound more like medical reports from the first half of the 20th century. That is, what my conception of early-20th-century medical reports would sound like. I didn't actually compare player injury reports from 75 years ago with those of today. My method was to merely to simplify terms. I modded the injuries on a one-to-one, like-kind basis: if an injury dealt with a stiff knee ("patellar tendinitis"), I kept it a stiff knee ("stiff knee"), but I changed the words to sound plain and old-school. Here are some examples of my changes: patellar tendinitis now knee stiffness plantar fasciitis now a swollen foot shoulder subluxation now dislocated shoulder conjunctivitis now pink eye gastroenteritis now stomach flu thoracic outlet syndrome now pinched nerve latissimus dorsi strain now strained back Overall, I changed 142 of 285 injuries. Back up your original file first! On my Windows XP machine, this file goes into the OOTPX game's database folder, which is in the game's data folder. If you're using Windows Vista, check KQ's instructions in this thread. Put the file in the correct place. Then go to your "Game" menu, go to "Game Setup," then go to the bottom of "Global Setup" where the "Global Database Functions" are, and hit "Re-Import Injury Database." Comments, criticism, and suggestions are welcome. Feel free to contact me if you need help. My thanks go out to Injury Log (Ian), who kindly allowed me to help him with his important and influential injury modding projects; thus, he gave me my start in these matters. PhillieFever inspired this historical injuries mod. And I thank KQ, for always being responsive and helpful, as a Moderator. |

Obviously, "historical injuries mod" is a misnomer, considering that I did not use separate historical data for this mod (although the injuries in the default injuries file are the real-world Major League Baseball player injuries from 2007; but most people wouldn't call the events of two years ago "historical" just yet).
A more-accurate title would be "injuries mod for use in historical leagues." My apologies for equivocating—it was unintentional. |

It's attached to the original post, down at the bottom. It's inside the box labeled "Attached files." Click on the link called injuries.txt and you can download it.
Do you have attachments turned off, perhaps? Or are you just suggesting that I submit it to a third-party site, such as PadreFan's, to be available there for download? |

Some injuries can last as short as one day, and it's certainly possible to set an injury's minimum and maximum both to one day. "Hangover" would be a cool injury to have, too. Modding injury lengths and adding new injuries are beyond the scope of what I was doing here, though.

I cleaned the original file's formatting up so its easier to read/edit and also added the hangover that was requested.

Many thanks for this mod, much needed IMHO. Question though: After re-importing your injury file, I'm getting weird news articles that don't list the injury, but refer to it by number instead. Eg: "The injury bug struck Claude Pines of the Cardinals today in the game against Solons. The 36-year-old third baseman was hurt while being hit by a pitch and will miss 2 weeks with 2." Obviously, my re-import went wrong somehow. Have you seen this behavior and is there a workaround? n. |

OK, solved my own problem. It appears that after re-importing the database, you need to re-load the game for the changes to take effect. I had been re-importing, saving, then resuming play. The correct sequence is 1) re-import, 2) Save, 3) Load Saved Game, 4) resume play to see changes.
Probably everyone else knew this but me. I'm easily these days.

This is a new version of the historical injuries mod, with new injuries added and a few other things changed. There are no CEI's and no injury lasts more than 100 days(I chose 100 because after looking through countless players' DL numbers throughout the 40's to the 60's, very very rarely did anyone spend more than 100 days on the DL

I have been testing this baby, and it works great, not only does it eliminate any injuries over 100 days, it also seems to cut down on the number of injuries overall. For anyone playing in a historical league prior to the mid-70's, this is a really good mod to use. With this file, I recommend putting injuries on low.
