Homebrew Primer?

Just a quick question from an extremely novice OOTP player. Are there any good FAQs or other resources around for those that wish to create a homebrew starting point? I've been creating projection disks for Diamond Mind 7-9 for a number of years out of the projections I run annually. I receive a lot of requests to do something similar with OOTP, but while I pretty much know the ins and outs of the DMB engine, I don't have the same familiarity with OOTP's engine. If I do make a mod for OOTP, I'd like to do a better job than simply dumping numbers into Sean L's database and letting OOTP sort it out.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
