I just downloaded OOTP today. So far, I've found it extremely complicated. My goal is to create leagues covering every 2 decades with each team having their best players from their best season (e.g., the 1920-1939 Yankees would have Lou Gehrig from 1927 & Bill Dickey from 1936, or the 1960-1979 Pirates would have Roberto Clemente from 1967 & Willie Stargell from 1973). Can this be done? If so, I really need a step by step explanation. I've done this with APBA, Earl Weaver & Tony La Rusa, but none of those games are still playable with recent OS's. I've done some exploring, but there is nothing intuitive or user-friendly about OOTP. Please help.

I haven't done this myself but I've read that you can import players from the Lahman Database. You can either wait for someone who can accurately answer your question or search the forums(check previous versions) or attempt it yourself in a test league. One thing I remember is you may want to append the year to the players name so each player will be unique. Otherwise you can end up with an early 70's Oakland A's Reggie Jackson and a late 70's Yankee Reggie.
Cooperstown did this with his all-time and negro league rosters. I did this years ago with Earl Weaver Baseball but I had to enter all of the data by hand. |
