Update - There is an issue with the DB that Arod23 is going to try to correct tonite. I will then review that build of the DB and hopefully we'll put it up after that. I have simulated from 1901-1954 with the first build that Arod23 sent me and I have only found two problems, one of which was easily correctable and the other he is trying to fix later today.

Just now finding this thread for the first time, don't have time to read further, so forgive me if I'm answering anything that's already been answered.
Quote:
Lon Warneke should get credit for 1944. Tommy Bridges should get credit for 1944 and 1945 (came back late in the year). Those last two might not turn up for your credit, because their career were essentially over after that. But they were still effective when they left for the military, so they should get something. Willie Mays lost a year or two for Korea - I'm not exactly sure which years off hand and don't have time to look it up, look for the gap in the early 1950s. Same for Whitey Ford. Don Newcombe should get Negro League credit for 1946-48. He would have been a .500 quality MLB pitcher in 1946-47 and a pretty good one in 1948. If you are really getting technical, give him extra credit for 5 starts in 1949, which he had in Montreal before getting called to Brooklyn - if he was pitching from 1946-48, he obviously wouldn't have started 1949 in the minors. He also should get credit for 1952-53 when he was in the Army. Newcombe lost almost 1/3 of his career for this stuff. Quote:
"Considered by many to be the greatest all-around third baseman, white or black, of his era, “Boojum” (derived from the sound his wicked line drives made as they smashed into the outfield wall) was one of the most hard-hitting offensive players at that position up to that time. Credited with the highest lifetime batting average for a Negro League player with at least 2,000 AB (.354), the intimidating left-handed hitter had good power and was acknowledged as a great clutch hitter by his peers. Despite his large physique, he was still able to generate fine speed." The problem is that era doesn't have any real power hitting 3B among the white players. I'd normalize George Brett's stats to the 1920's/30's and go with that . . . Sewell was really nothing like Wilson. There is some great info on many Negro Leaguers at that site: http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/...it_plaque_room **** Really looking forward to this! Thanks for all of the hard work! |

Scruff - Ted Williams was the only player I adjustd for military service after 1950. Someone recently posted a list of all the players who missed seasons for military service after 1950. Eventually I will update the DB and add in the seasons for those other players too...it won't have a huge impact on anything tho.
Warneke has been credited with seasons in 1944 and 1945. Bridges we only gave back 1944. We only took gave back entire missed seasons. Willie Mays and Whitey Ford I will eventually get to when I do the other 1950's stuff. Don Newcombe was 23 when he debuted anyway which I thought was reasonable. I may take a look at him again when I give him military service seasons back. I based Jud Wilson on Freddie Lindstron. You may have been reading an old post in which I was still in the brainstorming stage. We have to get this DB out soon though. Over the coming weeks we can go back and make additional edits and release an updated version. |

Hey Garlon, I've used your v6. DB recently including your compressed random year one (I've got the name wrong I know, forgive me), but I've been very naughty and not thanked you for your efforts, so to both you and arod, thanks for doing them.
Now I've totally missed this up to now (I know, I should look harder ), so I just wanted to say I'm looking forward to the new DB, and just want to thank you two dudes for all the hard work you put in to making the DB great. ![]() |

Update - Just received a new build of the DB from Arod23. He spent hours on this last night to fix some of the original problems we found. I have only tested this build briefly so far, but I think it is looking very good. I am going to try to get some more simulatng in with it to be sure there aren't any major problems before we post it for d-load. Hopefully we can get this up for everyone by tonite.

Version 1 is now available for download!! See link below.
The DB can be used in v2006, v6.5, or earlier verisons. See readme file for information on the modifications we made. Please let us know if there are any issues. Note, there are a few OOTP2006 issues with historical sims that are NOT database related. These will likely be fixed in a patch.

Sorry I posted this in a different thread that might not be seen......
Any intention on making a career based Db out of this ? Also, is there a list of the Negro League players that were added (so I can strip them out of the DB) ?

It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you. |

Nevermind on the NL players. Found them in that big big readme file that was in the zip. Thanks a million

Depending on how v2006 handles fielding eligibility, we may have to modify the DB. But we can't do that until the bug is fixed.

However, if that is not the case, we will certainly make one. Let us know.
