225 Years of Baseball: 1825 - 2050 (historical players added ~1875-present)

I decided to give the game a real test, and created a small league which I expanded a few times ove rthe years.

I didn't touch any settings except to tell the game to automatically import rookies starting around 1875 or so (I forget exactly which year), and to convert Babe Ruth to a batter during his rookie year.

Don't ask about Ruth, it wasn't pretty (short 13-year injury plagued career in which he finally went down in 1928 due to a CEI. He did sport a career BA over .300 though, despite never ever developing much power - his best year saw him only knock in 17 HR's)

Everyone else is fair game to ask about...

BTW.... Ted Williams rang up a career .486 AVG! He's the best ever in this fictional little world I simmed.

.486? My god.

As a Padres fan it is always my obligation to ask about one Mr. Tony Gwynn. Since this went to 2050 I also wouldn't mind hearing about Peavy.

Just the default ones. I set the game to adjust for era settings automatically as well.

On looking at the career leaders in BA, it seems that the totals are definately inflated (even given a 225 span of time).

Not sure if you were joking or not.

Just in case you're not, he's one of the most famous American athletes of all time, just not of the recent past.

Very cool project you got goin' here.

How did Pete Incaviglia fare?

How about Vince Coleman?

FWIW, I do have some power hitters in the leaderboards as well... just for some reason none of the historic players made the cut for seasonal totals.

The highest ranked historic player for career total HR's is Todd Helton who hit 521. He places 26th on the all-time list. Miguel Cabrera (502) is 33rd, and Albert Pujols (500) is 34th.

The highest historic player to have a career entirely (or almost so) within modern specs is Willie McCovey with 412 from 1958-1975.

Oh, I know who Thorpe was , I just didn't know he played baseball as well. He apparently never made the cut as he wasn't showing in the register (I checked).

Pete Incaviglia - Played '85-'94, played poorly and retired with a .238 career AVG, 125 HR's, and 9.8 VORP.

Vince Coleman - played 1984-94, with a .269 AVG. 13.0 VORP. Had all of 2 career HR's.

The more I look at it, the more its obvious I did alter a setting somewhere. Pitchers were very, very dominant and power was a fairly non-issue for the histpric years. :-/

That said, I thought I'd share the awards from 1885 onwards to 2035.

On looking at the career leaders in BA, it seems that the totals are definately inflated (even given a 225 span of time).

Code:
Rank Player OBP YEAR Open Season Leaderboard
1 Ted Williams* .4857 1938-1954
To assuage your fears (and mine) of a completely unrealistic sim engine - according to your posted leaderboard, it was Williams' career on-base percentage that was .486, not his career batting average.
