For Those That Have Historical Sims and Have Expanded

With the Arod23/Garlon databse, it's suggested that you import the players after the season because the players are imported the year before their first full season. However, you can only edit the league structure during the preseason (which is the stupidest thing I have ever heard..... okay, one of the stupidest). How do you go about importing so that the new teams get a chance to draft before they have to start a season? Is there any way to do that in the current version? Seems idiotic to not be able to have an expansion team participate in the rookie draft until after their first year.

Also, with an expansion team, do they ever offer free agents anything? I created 4 test teams in a league I have and simmed for a month leading up to the start of Spring Training, and while there were nearly 200 free agents available, not one was signed by an expansion team. You would think that the computer AI would see that it has 0 players on the roster and would try to fix that. But perhaps I am expecting too much from an AI that still can't adjust itself from the "too few players on the roster" thing that pops up forcing you to fill the team with fictional players or manually try and fill the roster somehow.

I have a sim where I am using all the expansion teams, but the only way I know to get the new teams their players, is to go in and put all the players on the team when you actually add them at the beginning of the preseason. I totally agree this is the one of the stupidest things ever and I hope they will let you edit league structure earlier in a patch somewhere.

But if you are drafting instead of putting players on their original teams I do not know if there is a way to do what you are looking for. I am far from an ootp guru tho so there may be a way I am not aware of

I am adding the Teams the Year before they are set to enter the League and not changing the schedule... They still show up in the league information in the almanac, but don't play any games. Not the Ideal way, but at least they get to participate in the draft and can also sign some free agents....I also fill them with crap fictional players in case they can't fill all their spots. (Set Player creation modifiers at .010 for all attributes) These guys get released quick and never compile meaningful stats. Not ideal, but it works well enough.

The thing that is preventing from playing until the patch is the way the Pitchers skill deteriorate after age 30 in Historical sims...it is especially frustrating that this happens while Hitters continue to be productive into their late 30's and early 40's...even with the aging modifiers tweaked substantially.....
