dynasty reports ???

I guess I'm not that new to OOTP, but there is one thing I never understood about the whole OOTP community. The Dynasty reports??? I am a big stat nerd, which is why I was attracted to this game. But I don't see the fun in these reports. It seems like some people put more work into them than actually playing the game. I tried reading a couple of them, and they just didn't hold my interest long enough.

Now I'm not saying that they are completely boring, or a waste of time. I think the problem is that I don't understand them. Are people just making stories from the top of their heads based on what happens in their OOTP seasons?

I'm guessing the Dynasty reports will continue in OOTPBM. Maybe if someone can explain what they are, where it started from or anything, I might do one myself

P.S.
Hey, what if a future version of the game automatically generated dynasty reports. You know, a longer version of the stories created in the News sections?

I think it's a pretty common thing with all sports games. I've seen people do them for everything from OOTP to Madden. Personally, I have fun doing them as a way to enhance the experience of the game. I don't generally do the whole "story" thing as much as most of them, but to answer your question, the stories are just made up by the author to make it more interesting. I know a lot of people who enjoy reading them, and a lot of people who enjoy making them.

People do them because it's immersive. It helps makes your dynasty come "alive".

Some of us just enjoy writing. It helps me stay immersed (as darkenigma suggests) in the game play. I like stats as much as anyone else, but to me, it's just as interesting to know the details of the "humans" playing the game inside my computer.

Since OOTP doesn't write those for me (and I hope it never does), I write them for myself. And since I think it's fun to know the stories, I think other people might enjoy reading them as well.

To me, the dynasty forum is the very best part about the OOTP community. YMMV.

Not just sports games. I've seen them for strategy games like Civ and EU too...though they're not called dynasties there.

It's definitely just a different approach. In a way, it's more like the "role-playing" approach to baseball, while stats-mongering is more like the "strategy gaming" approach to baseball.

Nothing beats the feeling when one of your beloved characters hits a game-winning homerun in the Wordl Series or gets that big strike out. Or, you experience the agony of one of your characters failing. You can amost feel the pain a person would have in real life. If you have a good imagination, it's a wonderful feeling making those "little men in my computer" become real. I can almost see them swing a bat now or winding up on the mound.
