0-2 and then walking???

I am new to the game...and I know I am going to love it as I begin to play more. But, I can not, FOR THE LIFE OF ME...figure out why my pitchers are not getting K's, especially when they go up 0-2...and then walk the batter. I know it happens in baseball...but, it is happenning way to frequently in this game and making it very frustrating. I also can not figure out how some of the players I have...have great ratings and can't get any hits...but, the AI has players that have control of 8 and an eye of 7...and they are getting hits left and right. Is it something I am doing wrong? Is this normal? Finally...the amount of foul balls is a little ridiculous. I would rather see the balls go in play much sooner. My players go up in the count 3-0...and then I either KO, or get an out. It just seems like the AI is really cheating in this game!!! If anyone can help...let me know what the heck I am doing wrong!!!

How many games have you played? Your sample size may be very small.

Must've never seen Stan Williams pitch.

I have played about 10 games so far. So are you saying that as I play more, this will stop? I appreciate the response.

I am confident that the frequency will decrease significantly as you play more and more games. After you've played an entire season, it's likely that you barely will remember having this frustration.

There's nothing that you're doing wrong, and the AI isn't cheating. It's just that, with a small sample size such as ten games, the probability is there for just about any sequence of events to happen that can easily fool you into thinking there is a pattern. Over time, players with 3-0 counts will walk more often than players with 0-2 counts. Players with a 13 in control and 14 in eye will end up better hitters than those with an 8 and 7, respectively.

You might wish to auto-play a season or three in another created league, and then examine the stats to see this for yourself. Or if you want, sim a month with your team and take another look. The game is based on probabilities and ratings, and not AI cheating to gain an unfair advantage.

Anything could happen in ten games. Frankly, anything can happen in one season (although it's much more likely players will have results closer to their ratings over a season than in just 7% of a season). Don't try to assign too much weight or find patterns to anything over such a short period of time - you'll only get frustrated.

Thanks. I will probably sim a whole season...thus not getting frustrated. I have lost three games in a row because of this frustration. Anyway...thanks for the post and I will see how it goes with more games under my belt.

Personally, I simmed 5 full seasons before taking over, so the league could have a bit of history behind it. I wanted to do more, but I was itching to play.

David Wright of the Mets seems to always goes from 0-2 to a full count. It must have been your sample size that made you think it happens to everyone. As you play longer, you will notice that it will be ok.
