Lost
I would consider myself close to an expert player of 6.0 and 6.5 versions of OOTP baseball, but I just plain can't get a handle on this version at all. I have read and re-read the manual and the player guide but I can't get anywhere. I like to play as GM, so I create a fictional league and let the game chose players rather than using an inaugural draft. I invariably seem to get fired in the first season. It's no surprise. How the heck do I know how good my players are, or who the good players are in the rest of the league? In 6.0 and 6.5, I would use a star ranking, which gave me an overall feel for who was good and who wasn't. Now I'm just plain lost. Players are ranked on so many dimensions that it's virtually impossible to get a feel for the overall ability of a player, especially when you don't even have values for a lot of those dimensions even after scouting. I don't know what to do at this point and I'm ready to give up on the game. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Dactyl your exactly, I feel the same way too, "Lost" I think I made a mistake by purchasing this version, when I should have got ver 6.5. There is such a thing as information overload. Thats why I am trying to trade this game to someone who can really handle all of the number that are thrown at you, and can make better sence of it all.

I was into OOTP 6.5 pretty deeply but I could see what I was up against with OOTP 2006. My approach was to start at the bottom - sign on to manage a rookie league team and get the feel for the basics that way. If you just dive in as GM of a MLB club, you might feel a bit overwhelmed, IMO.
The only bad thing about managing in the minors, especially rookie level, is the frequent roster changes made by your GM boss. You have to check your ballclub's transactions everyday to see who is coming and going! But, it does calm down after a while and this does lend realism to the task of having to manage down there. As soon as one of your players starts going good, off he goes, to be replaced by "bum of the week." Personally, I like the challenge of trying to win with castoff rabble. ![]() |
