40-Man Roster Question

How come the AI teams seem to be able to remove players from the 40-man roster and I can't? I'm looking in the Complete Transaction Log and I see a lot of times the AI teams are able to remove players from the 40-man roster that have MLB contracts as long as they are playing for one of their minor league teams. However, I get the error message, "This player has a major league contract, he cannot be taken off the 40-man roster, he must be released or designated for assignment."

Have you been checking the Waiver Wire? It's possible the AI teams have been waiving their players and you didn't notice. I kept forgetting to check the wire myself, so I never knew when players were available to be claimed, so I set the length of time guys have to be on waivers to 10-14 days (in League Set-up) and do my best to check once a week.

In league setup I have waivers turned off. I think I'll turn them back on when the season starts, but I just didn't want the AI teams to just start going crazy throwing everyone on waivers. So I don't get how they can take someone with a mlb contract off their 40 man roster and demote them to the minors without waivers being turned on. I wonder if this is a bug...probably me doing something stupid.

You may have noticed that with the Waiver Rule Disabled, you can still place someone on the 40-man roster "on waivers" if you right-click his name. If you happen to have had the waivers window open when you turned the waivers rule off, you will still see it in your Transactions Overview and the player will appear in it as having CLEARED Waivers already. If not, then you don't get a chance to open it while the rule is disabled. Nevertheless, the waiver roster is still there working in the background. Try it - turn the rule on, open the window, turn the rule off, and put somebody on waivers.

The difference is, that with the waiver rule off, the player clears waivers immediately. Then you can designate him for assignment (DFA). The 10-day default rule for DFA is the outside limit; you can demote a player who is not out of minor league options immediately from the DFA if you choose. This is what the AI is doing in the background and why it appears instantaneous to you. I would turn the waiver rule back on if I were you.

Ahh I never knew that the waivers still worked in the background even if you had them off. I will switch those back on now. Thanks man!

The manual says you can turn DFA off ... but I see no option.

Anyway, this is a bug ... having to put a player on waivers when the waiver rule is disabled (even if the end result is the same) messes up the transaction report and is not right.

DFA is a bug to because sometimes Good Players and Pitchers are being DFA and they just get Released because the team will not try and trade them to get something in return because theirs no Trade Block Feature!
