CMS or regular HTML sites for online leagues?

As I browse through all the different OOTP leagues, it seems to be a pretty even split between people using Content Management Systems i.e. phpNuke, Joomla, Drupal, Mambo.

I'm wondering what some pros/cons are to that approach versus regular old HTML/CSS web sites.

I know about being able to allow team members to submit news, and that is really cool, but I don't like how I have to sacrifice control over the design of the website when I use a CMS. It seems to be very difficult (for me at least) to design a template, and I don't want a site that looks like a million others out there.

any thoughts?

Rob, in mambo there are hundreds of free templates available for your site. Both of my sites are mambo, soxxcountry.com for OOTP and my fansite for the red sox, celts, pats and bruins at newenglandsportscountry.com . mambo gives you a lot of customization options.

I have looked into Joomla, which is basically the same as Mambo.

Do you think that is a better aproach then an all HTML site?

Yes its all set up and saves a lot of work, my sites have been done by fidel montoya for a very modest fee. he does excellent work and gives a lot of hands on support. you can contact him at allsimbaseball.com and while there can see his other customer sites.

i'll echo this. Doing it through a CMS package makes updating and configuring your site a LOT easier to manage.

I have experience with CMS in the past, but I never liked how much control I lost over design.

Do you guys have any links to "good" templates for joomla/mambo?
