FA signs in the offseason, few days later get traded

Is it normal to have sign and trade in the off-season? I thought it's rare.

Anyway, I've seen a number of them recently. Nomar Garciaparra signed with Boston. 5 days later get traded. Same thing with Mark Loretta and Craig Wilson even my fictional player, Daisuke Matsuzaka. Even unknowns, Joey Reiman. Even prospects, Philip Humber.

Is it just me or is there something wrong with my league?

This should be extremely rare. Are you on the latest patch, 1.03?

Yeah. On my main screen at the bottom it says 1.03.12270.

You know what, I will also need to see the player history html files for the players in question. If you could zip those up with the file that would be great.

12-01 and the 12-06 was done by the computer. I noticed only when I was at 12-13, so I traded him back.

IIRC, MLB has rules dictating that teams can't trade FAs they've signed until June 1 to prevent sign-n-trades. Perhaps this can be coded into OOTP 2007 (as an option)?

Yes I have and I do not see anything wrong with the league setup etc. Was this league created with 1.03 or a prior patch and then you updated to 1.03?

It is created with 1.03 since it's relatively new. It's the universe I use in my dynasty 2007 Mariners: Navigating the cellars of AL West

Hmmm....Okay, well this definitely should not be happening so I am going to log this to be looked at. Unfortunately there is not much that can be done for OOTP 2006 since there are no more patches. However, I will make sure this gets looked at for the next version. Hopefully you do not see much more of this since it should be very rare. I will post back with a TT# so you can follow any progress.

Can anyone dig up the actual rule on this somewhere? It would be nice to have a specific rule to make sure this gets programmed accurately in 2007.

Any Club signing a contract after the expiration of the election
period with a Player under this Section B may not assign his
contract until after the next June 15. However, notwithstanding the
foregoing, such contract may be assigned for other Player contracts
and/or cash consideration of $50,000 or less prior to the next June
16 if the Player gives written consent to such transaction.

Major League free agents come with an automatic no-trade clause until after the next June 15.

So, quick question: how do you guys think this should work in OOTP? It would be dangerous to hard-code June 15th, since different leagues start at different times.

Also, what happens if the trade occurs on June 10th? Is he eligible to be traded 5 days later? Or does it go for another year?

Trying to cut through the legalese, does this pretty much mean this:

Players signing a contract cannot be traded until the next June 15th, unless they agree to the trade? (Did I correctly sense a player option in there?)
